  1. I've just read over on the Sheffield History forum that Karloff stayed at the Empire Hotel in Sheffield, but no date was included.
  2. That's interesting. If Karloff and Lugosi were in Sheffield at any time other than 1951, it would have to have been in either 1935 or 1939. Bela only ever visited England three times: 1935 to film Mystery of the Mary Celeste, 1939 to film Dark Eyes of London and 1951 for the Dracula tour and to film Mother Riley Meets the Vampire. Do you know where a copy of the photo might be found?
  3. That's just the sort of photo I've been looking for. Thank you. Do you know of anyother film stars who stayed at the hotel?
  4. I have written a book about Bela Lugosi's British tour of Dracula in 1951 and I'm now preparing an updated new edition. I was so excited to read your post. I had no idea of the event you mentioned. Can you tell me more? Any help you can give will be credited in my book. I'm especially keen to see you photo of him. I can be contacted directly at: andobi@hotmail.com I have a Lugosi blog which contains some cuttings of him in Sheffield at http://beladraculalugosi.wordpress.com/1951-dracula-tour/ Is there a local newspaper archive where I can search for articles about his appearance at Batchelors.
  5. You can read some cuttings and reviews of Bela Lugosi in Dracula at the Lyceum on my blog: http://beladraculalugosi.wordpress.com/1951-dracula-tour/
  6. For anyone interested, I have a Bela Lugosi blog which contains some cuttings and reviews of Dracula in Shefield. You can find it at: http://beladraculalugosi.wordpress.com/1951-dracula-tour/
  7. I've written a book about Lugosi's Dracula tour, and I'm now in the middle of updating it for a reprint. Can you remember anything else about when you saw Dracula. Do you still have your programme? Any help will be credited in the new edition.
  8. That's a wonderful story. Do you know the name of your mate's father? I've written a book on Lugosi in Britain, now I'm preparing an updated new edition. All help will be credited. Is the hotel what is now known as the Holiday Inn the Royal Victoria Hotel?
  9. I'm researching Bela Lugosi's British tour of Dracula in 1951. From August 6-11, he appeared at the Lyceum . Did you see the play? Did you meet him? Do you have any cuttings or a programme? I'd love to hear from you. Andi Brooks
