A little off topic, but anyone interested in the Daledike flood should try this link http://www.mick-armitage.staff.shef.ac.uk/sheffield/book/contents.html Comprehensive and fascinating insight of what really happened.

Dam Flask village was washed away by the Dyke Dale flood disaster. It was never rebuilt due to upcoming plans to construct the Dam Flask reservoir, so I guess there is nothing under there.

Maybe this Wikipedia link might answer your question (second paragraph) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damflask_Reservoir

New to the thread, but can anyone remember Irene and Jim Major who used to run the shop opposite No 41 Walkley street ? Lived at that address until 1969 and the memory is still in my mind.

Anybody on this thread ever heard of Crash for Cash ?

I remember the earlier days of the Internet. At the time broadband was not even thought of. The best you could hope for was a landline connection that had a speed of 56k (theoretical) maximum (hardware dependent), true speeds were obviously much less ! My earlier days of internet connection used to cost me £11 pounds per week (unlimited)., but having said that, there was nothing worse than downloading something overnight, only to find the landline had dropped my connection, and you were left with a download that wasn't to be. So so unreliable !

What's the point of having a personalised number plate?
slugger replied to PeteMorris's topic in General Discussions
Nice story, shame about the ending. Maybe the child said " Daddy could that old banger in front be driving on false plates ? After all I know that the registration 8 GR is going for over £51 grand and GR 81 is worth much more" Daddy says "Child, the man has a personal plate and must be above us, so don't be rude and impertinent ! Child says "get stuffed the mans a liar" !!!!! Woman says " maybe the child has a valid point ". Talk about Jackanory, Heh. -

Try sticking to Genetics. P.s. must assume you are suitable breeding material, or you wouldn't be complaining.

Keep track fella ! Procreation is hard-wired, nothing will change that. Unless you can.
-
Here go's Human Intervention, humans deciding on procreation. Hope that helps
-
Contradictory post ! Keep your d*** in your pants sir and that might help !
-
Procreation is hard-wired into every living thing on this planet. (we are all born with reproductive organs ) Its all about ensuring life go's on after we expire, the cycle of nature . No amount of human interference will stop this ! Hitler tried and failed with his brutal Ideas. It appears that people on here who agree with limiting the less fortunate people to not having children, must consider themselves superior otherwise they wouldn't spout such s***, whilst they consider themselves perfectly adequate to do what others shouldn't ! Controversially, would the Jewish communities agree to the ideologist comments on here ? Nature is the most powerful thing on Earth and some of the Ideas on here will never prevail, because nature is nature and life will go on whether we are superior or inferior.

7 traditional pubs to try in Sheffield (Town Centre)
slugger replied to Stoatwobbler's topic in Going out in Sheffield
Fair comments. Taxmans points are a little off the mark though. The thread is about traditional pubs and the"Brown Bear" is one of the most original old fashioned boozers in Sheffield, if ever there was one. Tiny yes, but most original, with three original open fireplaces to warm your legs in winter Go outside at the back and look at the building !. Proper Victorian, you can almost imagine the kids begging for for a morsel ! Clientèle, from in my experience, (daytime) are usually older citizens reminiscing about the good old days ("them wor days"), ( even rowdier than us young uns ) Choice of drinks limited here, but I think they are limited by brewery policy (What no Guinness or Stella), though their own Stout, Beers and Lagers are all traditionally brewed, and for me I can tell the difference in quality without a doubt. -

I only spoke highly of the Brown Bear. You only talk of scrotes and associate named pubs (see bolds). Are you comparing these to the Brown Bear ? Do you see Police queuing outside the place ? -

One of the few outlets that still serve Sam Smith's traditional real ales ( In Sheffield) at a real bargain price, mostly cheaper than most local pubs standard fare e.g. John Smiths creamflow etc ! Never had a problem with quality, either with beers or lagers in all the times I have visited there. Rare, quality products in a Sheffield centre pub for outstandingly cheap prices. Under two quid for a quality pint of real ale, come on ! And then the surroundings, how much more traditional could you ask for ? -

I remember the white dot at midnight after the national anthem. Back then UK viewers only had the choice of three channels (BBC 1, BBC 2 and ITV), and that was your lot. Nowadays people have the choice of many channel's, 24/7, mostly free ! I say don't knock them. Don't like ? Don't watch, just come on here to moan or have an early night instead. -
