  1. Oh Estweyn, that's awful. Without sounding harsh, I'm really glad the cat I found had already gone to sleep - she probably never knew a thing about it. It's so much worse when they are still alive and can't move. Well done on getting her to the vet so quickly, and I hope her owners see your thread xx
  2. Thanks guys. Feeling all embarassed now as I wasn't posting to seek praise. I was just so upset last night I needed to share. I've never hit a cat thank goodness, so I can't imagine what the driver of the car that hit it must have felt like, but I think it seems pretty cowardly of them to just drive off without at least moving the poor thing to the side of the road. That said, my first instinct was to just drive on past too. So who knows how we might react in that situation. Medusa - what a nightmare for you. It was really nice of the owners of the cat to make you a drink - they must have been so impressed that you went to all that trouble to find the cat. And thank goodness it was alright. It really does make me think about just having housecats, but when I'm being logical about it I know that I'd rather have 3 happy cats who can come and go as they please and have a slightly shorter life than 3 really unhappy cats with cabin fever who live to be 100 (give or take a year or two )
  3. I'll give my three an extra cuddle on your behalf Greavsy Thanks Moonbird. I think dealing with animals such a lot does make you a little bit more capable - the man in the first house brought the towel out and just said "I can't do this" and handed the towel to me. I never in a million years thought I would be able to, but I couldn't leave it just lying there. I'm so glad I did it as the woman just cuddled it like a baby as she realised it was hers. I hope to goodness that if anything ever happens to one of mine, someone would come and tell me. I can't think of anything worse than finding one of them in the road. It's so sad. My thoughts are with that poor woman tonight - if I'm this upset, I can't imagine how bad she feels.
  4. Really upset as I've just had to tell someone their cat had died. Just driving along Avisford Road in S5 and a cat was lying dead in the road. My instincts told me to drive on and I started to, but then my better self kicked in and I knew I just couldn't. I parked up and went and knocked at the nearest door and they said it sounded as if it was their next door neighbour's cat. The lady went to knock on the next door while I borrowed a towel to pick the cat up - bad enough seeing your cat's dead without having to see it lying there in the road. I wrapped it in the towel like a baby and the woman came out, realised it was her cat, took it, and ran crying into the house. Up to that point I was really matter of fact about it, but you could hear the poor woman crying and wailing inside the house. The first lady was really upset too, and I just said in a broken voice "I'm off to cuddle my cats" and drove off. If you have a cat, give it an extra cuddle from me tonight.
  5. When I get into bed at night and have to slide my legs carefully under the quilt so as not to disturb my three pampered babies, and when they snuggle up on my knee without a care in the world with their full tummies and no idea that life could be any other way, I can't help but compare them with the foster cats in the room downstairs. These poor things, sometimes kittens who have just had their own kittens, sometimes old timers who have been abandoned, will be loved and cared for from now on both at my home and when they get rehomed, but they really have had the hard end of life for months or even years. I suppose this must be how it feels for new mums looking at their babies and then seeing the horrible pictures on the news etc of mistreated or starving children. You just give yours an extra cuddle and thank their lucky stars for them that they found you!
  6. well done rihinch - Binga to the rescue again
  7. I asked at work and we just throw our shredded paper into the recycle skip so you can definitely have ours. It is bagged up in black sack sized bags. Is there anyone who can tell me where Jedi is based so I can drop it off next time, or do you prefer to pick it up?
  8. Jedi, we shred loads of docs at work and as far as I know it gets thrown away. I'll find out on Monday if I can take it. If so, where are you and I'll drop it off when I get a few bags.
  9. Sarah I'm near you, you could drop them off with me on Friday if you like so that they can all go together.
  10. I will probably be baking them on Friday after work, so will struggle to get them to you before Saturday. Can you get me the postcode of where you will be on Saturday as I'm from the other end of Sheffield and a bit hazy once I get past the centre of town
  11. I'll bake some cakes for you. If you need help transporting cats, I can do that too. ETA, just realised, you will be transporting cats on Friday, so I can't help then. But can bring cakes on Saturday.
  12. Hi All, I've been missing in action for a few months, sorry to see that Jackie is struggling again. I used to have a poster that I pinned up in every nook and cranny in our two Sheffield offices - has anyone done a new one recently? I know last time they prompted at least 3 people to donate that I know of, plus one lady who started donating monthly, so they do help. If not, I might try my hand at making another one tomorrow.
  13. Ha ha! I got to cuddle the dog though, and to pull his ears - can't imagine you'd have let me do that to you. Lol!!
  14. I travel from Hillsborough to get to Peak Vets. They are better than any of the other vets I've used and I wouldn't use anyone else now. They are much cheaper too in my experience, which is an added bonus!
  15. You will indeed. I always need a cuddle
  16. Is that the one where Matallan is? Near Chesterfield Road?
  17. Lol vwkittie, here are the pics. Squishy Bubbles Mum cat - Kipper
  18. Thanks for the kind words. I've not been on the forum for a couple of months and you've all reminded me why I used to love it here so much. Mum and remaining kits are really well and will be getting extra cuddles, as will my own cats!!
  19. Thanks all. RR she will be sorted - these are foster cats from the RSPCA so they will neuter/spay them all once the kits are weaned. I've spoken to the RSPCA and they have said similar things to the above - some babies just die for no reason. It's still hard not to keep thinking what-ifs though!
  20. Just an update - unfortunately he died about 7.30 this morning. He took some milk during the night but when I tried at 6.30 he couldn't even swallow, the milk was just running out of his mouth. He was totally unresponsive, so I wrapped him in a blanket and cuddled him until he went. I'm a total blubbering mess at the moment, but at least I feel as though I tried my best for him, poor little thing. Thanks so much Binga for your words of advice last night - I think I needed someone to be realistic about his chances so that I could prepare myself!
  21. Well I just had a partial success - I tried a different size teat on the bottle and he started lapping. He drank for a couple of minutes, and that's more than I could have hoped for an hour ago! He's asleep now with his mum, so I'll try again in an hour. Thanks for your help everyone, night night x
  22. Thank you so much for your quick responses everyone. I've been and fetched some from Binga - thank you Binga!! The little guy is reluctant to drink so i'm squirting bits in his mouth. He has got a little bit more energetic and is hunting for nipples on his mum, but when he finds one he doesn't even put it in his mouth, he just goes to sleep! I'll stay up through the night and keep trying it, and will let you know how he gets on. I'm praying he doesn't give up as I have been fostering for years and this is the first time I've had any real problems. I'll be a sobbing mess by tomorrow,
  23. Are you relatively easy to find?
