  1. But if nobody knew a country was printing money for large projects, how could devaluation be calculated?
  2. Imagine you are a dictator and you want arms or nuclear missiles and oil, etc. You can afford anything by just printing money. If you are a dictator, who is going to stop you or even know. The country gaining your filthy lucre won't care or know, so long as they are paid.
  3. Well if you look at the debt we are in today, we don't have rampant inflation. Once again, if money was printed to just pay for our every day debts, (not the national debt as that's too large and would be too noticeable if paid), who would know or ask where the money came from?
  4. The UK is £1,617.6 billion in debt. I know its not imaginery debt, hence more reason to print money. How do we know that China isn't printing money, or the USA, to pay for all their massive nuclear and space projects? How do we know whether every time the Middle East order our Harriet jump jets, they're not just printing money to pay us, rather than using their tax payer's money? How would we know, providing its real money they are paying us, what's the problem?
  5. But providing the £5 was real money, what's the problem? The taxi driver was paid real money.
  6. Not if they don't tell us. Look, they can pretend we can't afford all our debts, but secretly be paying the country's debts, while pretending we can't afford anything, hence another excuse for cutbacks, just like we've had since 2008.
  7. There is only one way to overcome this, just print money. After all who is really going to know?
  8. But her daughter is not paying any rent, therefore is her daughter technically sub-letting? There is probably no tenancy agreement or contract of any kind and money has never changed hands. It is just a member of the family, flat sitting temporarily.
  9. Well that's cleared that up. Thank you Jeffrey.
  10. I rang planning today. Even though planning lapsed only three weeks ago, all plans have to be re - submitted. Even then, there is no guarantee you will get planning again. Laws have changed in the interim, other buildings have been erected and planning for other buildings may be in the pipeline. However, it sold at auction from £33K to £155k.
  11. I know this, but why a 999 year leasehold, why not a normal 125 years?
  12. It's odd because the Citizens advice website states that planning permission can last 5 years!
  13. 🤔 Now I am confused. So this must be why leaseholders in flats, sometimes have the opportunity to purchase the freehold, after so many years.
  14. I don't know who originally classes a property as one or the other, just that it makes a big difference when purchasing property. It surprises me how common it is for houses in Sheffield to be leasehold!
  15. Yes, I may just ring planning out of curiosity. I discovered today that the roof space was in the auction last year while planning was still valid, so I don't understand why they allowed it to lapse. By Re-submitting it, to get planning, it would be worth far more.
  16. If a 999 lease is classed as freehold, why isn't it just called freehold? What is the difference? Also, if you have a 999 year lease, why does the 'official copy of register of title,' include all other leasehold properties which are in the same building?
  17. Well, I wondered if there was any exceptions for planning that had only lapsed for a short period. In other words is it common for councils to extend planning permission under such circumstances, rather than go through the whole process from scratch? Re. Retrospective planning, why would such laws exist if they weren't to be used? Especially in this case when planning only lapsed a month ago!!!
  18. The planning permission only lapsed last month, but is it possible to have pp extended? Could there be any repurcussions or reasons for the Council to object, if the same plans were submitted, albeit the original plans have lapsed? ... Or could work still go ahead, then apply for retrospective planning permission?
  19. Thanks for that link Jeffrey, it provided me with the original price of the land for just a £3 fee.
  20. How can I find out the price the previous owner paid for land, when the auction legal pack has blanked out this information?
  21. Down South, you wouldn't even have a choice, let alone Gravy.
  22. What makes any cake moist is more oil/butter. The more oil, the moister the cake. One other tip, buy a coconut and grate it. Once you've tasted fresh coconut, you will never go back to desiccated.
  23. Southerner's don't, so is it just a Northern thing?
  24. But if the property is in an auction catalogue, which usually means two to three weeks before the actual auction takes place, and a section 42 has already been applied for by the outgoing leaseholder, is it possible to find out how much the lease extension will cost, before the auction?
  25. Thank you Jeffrey, this is most enlightening. Scenario, so a very unlucky landlord could find, that every time he lets his property, and serves a section 21, he may have to wait months before obtaining a court order to get the tenant to leave. In addition, landlord finds himself out of pocket for months with no rental income, while this all goes through and landlord also has to pay all the court costs. What a nightmare, no wonder landlords are put off, although the example I've given is the worst possible scenario. Something like this only needs to happen once, (sigh) who'd be a landlord?
