  1. You're right Revel, Chinese students are very polite, there's a lot that us British can learn from their social culture.
  2. That's pretty weak and prejudiced dude. Besides, I was answering the last thread about the Chinese taking photo's while they were here. What's that got to do with employment. Besides, a Taiwanese friend told me last week that Chinese student would rather get their degree in America, because it's more prestigious. Oh, and regarding your employment argument. If a Chinese person who's first language isn't British gets a job over and above a British Citizen, then that British Citizen needs to be asking themselves some serious questions about their ability to do the job in question, their work history, and their attitude. And if a Chinese person gains employment and doesn't have their tax, etc immediately deducted from their wage before they get it, then that is the employers fault, not the employee. I used to work for the DSS between 1993 and 1995. When they finish building China Town near London Road, I expect you won't be going down there to mingle with the Chinese then. I don't know Mr. Degree Man, you could ask them for a job waiting tables, and do they have arrangements where you don't have to pay tax. After all, that must be why the Chinese come here, so they can disrespect their parents who have paid for them to study here (and that's really expensive, more than we would pay to study here), and at the end of the Degree, or Phd or whatever they've studied years for. Go and work in a restaurant for 'minimum wage' and criminally not pay tax, just to bring that extra-shame on their family.
  3. It doesn't really matter about the Chinese taking photos does it? I think it's part of Chinese culture to take photos. Plus, they're overseas students, they may want to record their experience in England, and/or share their photo's with friends/family back home. I have an undergraduate degree with honours from The University of Sheffield, I never had any problems with Chinese students. They were polite, shy, and largely kept themselves to themselves. I think that the Chinese, measure themselves by how successful they are, and how they live their lives. They don't hurt anybody else, why are you bothered? Besides, when the British go abroad, they always act British. We largely stay with other British people, go to British pubs, etc etc. And wreck every place we go to, thinking that we're better than everybody else. No wonder we're hated. Don't be to concerned with what other people do, you're being very un-Dude as Walter would say from The Big Lebowski.
  4. I've heard off of one of the Supertram conductors that there is an underground railway station underneath what was the Co-op on Angel Street. Apparently, Co-op wanted to get ahead of the rest of the shops in Sheffield, with their station being the 'hub' of the network. Apparently, the network was going to follow the valleys; like the sheaf valley, Ecclesall Rd, Hillsborough, Attercliffe, - you get the drift. I know from when I used to be a guard on the Peace Gardens that there is a nuclear air-raid shellter underneath the townhall/Peace Gardens area - though I don't know where the entrance is. I heard from the supervisors that the entrance was somewhere in the grounds of that chapel that's on Norfolk Street opposite The Monk - but, that's just hear-say. I know for fact there is a massive network of underground tunnels; sewers, escape tunnels (Mary Queen of Scots), services tunnels, 'apparent' rail-network, underground rivers that have been covered by development e.g. Sheaf River. According to what I've heard, it's possible to walk completely from one end of the city centre to the other, and from top to bottom too - all underground. It makes me think, like in New York there are homeless people that live in the underground rail network, that whether there are homeless people or ciminal etc that live in the underground network of Sheffield?
  5. Yes, I remember him. I was at Loxley College during 2 periods, 1992-1993, and 1995-1997. He was my tutor for G.C.S.E. Law, and A'Level Law. He used to rattle on about how Cole Brothers was a fantastic shop - and that he bought stuff from there all the time. He used to eat his home-made sandwiches in class, and always have his flask with him. I remember that he was dismissed in 96 (I think) regarding some allegation made by 2 female students. The tutor that took over from him also said something about that he wasn't teaching certain aspects of Law correctly. I can't really comment on whether the allegations were correct or not. But, what I remember him as, is a decent family bloke, that was a little socially-awkward. I never had any problem with him whatsoever. I bumped into him a year or two later in Meadowhall by chance and had a coffee with him. A really pleasant bloke in my opinion. Such a shame what happened to him and his career.
  6. I came out of the Northern General at about 2010 and was confronted by the accident. I saw 3 ambulances, an ambulance urgent response car, and two police cars. There was also a silver BMW with all the back end smashed in and the rear window smashed (rear end facing the southbound bus stop), and a dark volkswagen (don't know if that was involved). I saw 3 people on the ground in stretchers. There were lots of emergency staff there, and people had gathered. Didn't know which were there gawking and which were witness. I didn't witness the accident, but a witness told me that a car had come Barnsley Road at some speed, there had been a collision with another vehicle, then one of the vehicles was rebounded into the Southbound Bus Stop where a load of people were stood waiting for the bus. Don't know if there are any fatalities, or how many were injured. I asked a police officer how I should get into town, he asked if I were a witness, to which I replied 'no' he then asked me to leave the scene. I advised him I needed to get to the city centre and he was sending me the wrong way. He then directed me through the crime scene, another officer tried to stop me but then directed me across the street from the accident advising me it was a 'crime-scene'. I hope everybody makes a recovery, and that nobody had died. A very very sad day.
  7. I've just checked, the copy of Curly Sue I have is Region 2, so it should play on your LapTop no problem. (I think the copy is from Germany). Joshua
  8. I have a copy of Curly Sue on DVD that you can have if you want it. I think I ordered it off of ebay or amazon, I'm upgrading to Blu-ray now so am downsizing what I don't want anymore. Joshua (e-mail me at [email protected], and we can arrange a time and place.)
