  2. When: Satuday 5th October from 7.30pm Where: The Lantern Theatre, Sheffield How much: ÂŁ7 adv, ÂŁ8 on the door. Tickets: Lantern Theatre, Sheffield Ex-Strangelove frontman Patrick Duff has trod an interesting path since the demise of the Bristol-based alt-rockers in 1998. Patrick re-emerged with his debut solo album "Luxury Problems" in 2005, having spent the intervening years living in a forest then travelling the world with WOMAD Festival. In 2009 his 2nd album "The Mad Straight Road", a collection of 12 songs that took in Disney soundtracks, The Kinks, Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash, saw Duff establish himself as a solo artist. His 3rd solo album "Visions of the Underworld", recorded live in a cottage in Dartmoor, sees Patrick going back to the basics of his voice and his guitar. The songs linked by a common theme of death form the basis of his current live show. Patrick Duff - more info:Patrick Duff's Facebook page Support from local Indie-post new-wavers RepoMen, who pay respect to Buzzcocks and the Violent Femmes via their catchy pop-tunes, and Sheffield's young firebrand singer/song-writer Dru Blues, a real chip off the Billy Bragg block of punky-folky-pop. 4. RepoMen will be playing at Shakespeare’s on Gibraltar Street, Sheffield on Thursday 8th December, in support of their 10th “Priceless” EP. It features 6 new songs including lead track “Do it”, a 2-minute Undertones’ inspired guitar rush. It will be on-sale at the gig in CD format and downloadable from iTunes from Monday 5th December. Two very special guest joining them: the superbly talented Matt Howden a.k.a. Sieben, who does things with his violin and echo-pedal that most people can only dream about. Really, a must-see. Secondly the fantastic The Theories, a high-energy indie-folk three piece. Entry to the gig is £3 on the door, or advanced tickets from me for £2.50.
  5. RepoMen will be making two, very different, appearences at Tramlines Festival in Sheffield this weekend. They are both on Sunday 24th July. The first is an acoustic set on the Busker’s Bus. We’re departing from outside of the Devonshire Cat pub in town at 1pm on the The Milestone Blues and Ale bus. The bus follows the following loop: Devonshire Cat/Trippets/Wig And Pen/The Shakespeare/Cads Blues Stage/Gardeners Rest/The Milestone/Kelham Island/West St/Bath Hotel/Devonshire Cat. Hop(!) on this bus between 1-2pm and you’ll catch us busking away. More info here: http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=151471551595369 Then it’s on to the main event at The Frog and Parrot on Division Street at 3pm for the full electric set as part of the Stevlor-curated “Fourth Reich of Rock’n’Roll”. Hope you can join us for one if not two of our appearences. It’s all free! We’ll have copies of our greatest hits album “Ocassional Sensations” to sell, priced at £7.99.
  6. Erm, theres one Sheffield band who did two nights in a tent near Don Valley Stadium the other night and they were quite fab....no what were the called? Seriously tho' good bands in Sheffield at the moment: The Monicans Jon Windle Ghost Lab The Ridgeways I'm sure some some more will come to me...
  7. Good roofer? Look no further than Paul Eshelby. Did a top job on re-roofing our garage. Deffo recommend him. Nice bloke too. http://www.pauleshelbyroofing.co.uk/
  8. I recently got my garage roof re-done. I used a guy called Paul Eshelby, website here: http://www.pauleshelbyroofing.co.uk/ He did a top job for a decent price in good time which is all you can ask for really. He was also a nice bloke too. Hence I'd have no hesitation recommending him on the basis of that....
  9. Hey peeps - thank you to you all for the info and such a speedy response
  10. Anyone know what's going on with the large plot of and they've fenced off on the hill behind Sheffield railway station? Looks like they're doing some pretty major construction.
  11. RepoMen are pleased to announce the launch party of our Headlines EP on Saturday 2nd October at The Grapes, Trippet Lane, Sheffield. It's a great line-up featuring two other top Sheffield bands: Jack and the Beanstalks: top-notch sounds from Sheff’s premier garage band. http://www.myspace.com/jackthebeanstalksband Toads: once they were four and now they are three. Ex-Interiors re-group as a lean and tidy three-piece with an all-new set and all their punk-pop credentials most definitely intact. http://www.myspace.com/toadsbanduk And all that for the price of £3! Doors 8pm, pay on the door. The "Headlines EP" featuring four brand new tracks ("Headlines", "Flicker", "What we do" and "Feed me") will be available in limited CD single format at the gig for £3.00 and then via iTunes with two bonus tracks (a Dave-Formula endorsed cover of Magazine’s “A song from under the floorboards” and a live version of “Parallel Schizophrenic”) from Monday October 11th. http://www.myspace.com/repomenuk
  12. If "in town" stretches to London Raod here's a few options: Indian: Aroma Japanese: Yama Chinese: Noodle Inn
  13. Too right they are. They're either pretty good but v.expensive OR fairly average and not that cheap. I'm not going to name names because I'm sure you know which ones fit into which category. There's just no Thai equivalent of the Noodle Inn or Yama (two fab and excellently prived eateries on London Road) in Sheffield. The other thing I can't figure out is why we haven't got a single Malaysian eatery in the city
  14. A few of you experience a bit of inconvienience from someone begging a few times and we get a thread like this one. OK, it can be annoying when people accost you for money, but really, do we need all this?
