  1. I've got a metal wristwatch where I think the pin spring between the face and strap has broken so I can't wear it at the moment. Is there anywhere in Sheffield that will be able to repair it for quite cheap & how much do you reckon it would cost?
  2. That's ridiculous... My advice is get your GP to assist with your application saying that it has led to significant depression and/or anxiety. I work in healthcare and was just successful in assisting a lady get a grant for moving home saying this.
  3. Bus stations have massive lockers for £1 or £2 for all day use. Much better than the £5 per bag at Manchester Piccadilly for 3 hours!
  4. We're looking to move to Hunter's Bar/Broomhill/Ecclesall Road ourselves and are considering Wards Brewery, so any reports you have would me much appreciated.
  5. My partner and I live in a rental house in York but are awaiting a job offer to come through and will then hopefully move to Sheffield. We're just wondering what period of notice we need to give on our current rental property though as would rather not have to pay for 2 places at once. We moved into our current house in September 2010 and signed a 1 year assured shorthold tenancy which assumingly lapsed in September 2011 and have been living here without a contract since. Would 4 weeks notice be enough do you think seeing as we're living here without a contract? And would it need to correlate with our rental period (ie hand it in before the 1st of the month) or could we hand it anytime and pay a proportion of our rent for that month?
  6. Or to Whirlow and walk up the Limb valley (which is a lovely walk), the walk up from Forge Dam is pretty nice too (and would take about an hour).
  7. What's your budget? What sort of area are you looking for (family, young professional, inner city, suburb)? What type of house do you want (terrace, modern, apartment)? Without knowing these you might as well be asking how long is a piece of string!
  8. For your budget I would probably look at Hillsborough, Walkley and Abbeydale, Woodseats and Heeley on the other side of the city.
  9. If you know the name of the block do a search on here because I remember seeing a few threads on them before, I seem to recall that two of the blocks were better than the other two and that some of the people who lived there loved it and how close to town it was, but that there was some anti-social behaviour in the entrance ways.
  10. Just a shame their expansion has been funded as a tax write off against her obscene dividend (paid by the state let's not forget).
  11. If they were expecting 50,000 per day and only got 10,000 in total (that's how it reads), that's an awful lot of money lost, at £12 per ticket that's over a million quid! Never mind loads of tickets were given away for free. A real shame, but as has been said it was far far too near Tramlines, and also I think confused about what it actually was.
  12. Indeed, and what a bizarre story too. How does someone burn to death on a sofa without the whole flat burning down or anyone noticing a fire?
  13. If the tenant died though would you not just re-let the flat rather than go after the dead woman's daughter for the duration of the lease?
  14. So what's happened with the murder? Surely it would've been in the press if something like that happened?
  15. York has a Labour council having previously had a Lib Dem council for a few years having previously been a Labour stronghold (just like Sheffield), The Conservatives only have any kind of foothold in the outer villages that didn't even use to be part of the city of York until a few years ago. So you're wrong. Sheffield is a better place to live than York, York is nicer for tourists, and it's those millions of tourists that give York it's shops in the centre. So again you're comparing chalk with cheese. Don't judge a place based on a few days out until you've actually lived there yourself.
  16. £12 is nothing compared to most city festivals, we're spoiled having the best free festival (possibly in the World) in Sheffield.
  17. I live in York and Labour run both the council and have the MP here so you're wrong. To all those saying how brilliant it is to if you lived here you'd see the city does have some nice independent shops & restaurants & the like but that's because it's thronged with tourists, it's also a hideously expensive city to live in and the council services and leisure facilities are appalling as all our council tax money goes towards the tourist industry. The traffic is awful, public transport is absolutely shocking and hideously expensive compared to Sheffield (we only have First bus here and they stop running their main routes at 7pm), outside of the city centre the city is full of rough estates full of drug addicts like anywhere else, only houses cost twice as much here. Unlike Sheffield there is no decent leisure facilities, parks of countryside at all... Old buildings and tourist shops might be nice to look at, but they don't make life better to live here. The grass isn't always greener on the other side.
  18. She'll come second (or third if Farrah does the 5k/10k double) but Wiggins will walk away with it.
  19. The service charge and the probable depreciation is what puts me off, because I love the development otherwise and the views and apartments were stunning when I went to the show flats.
  20. Last years kit was lovely, this one certainly isn't.
  21. Lot's of conversion style flats around Ecclesall Road too which is a pretty decent area to live and you could walk to work. Wards Brewery has quite a good reputation too, Velocity Tower looks nice and has nice views but the developer went bust and never finished it so not sure on how well maintained it is.
