  1. Hope whoever has bought it has suitable plans (and the money to put them into action) for the building. Something like the Nicholls building would fit in well with the new antiques quarter. Shame it can't be used as a theatre or cinema though (due to the covenent).
  2. Broomhill (studenty) or the city centre (lots of flats in your budget but maybe not quiet) would both be handy for the uni. Crookes, Walkley and Ecclesall Road areas all pretty handy too. Hillsborough is a bit more suburban but on the tram direct to the uni. Kelham Island is an old industrial area near the city centre on the up, lots of converted mills and good real ale pubs but not much else there. Ecclesall road area has lots of bars, restaurants and boutiques, Sharrow Vale Road (Hunter's Bar) is a bit more bohemian with some good pubs and boutiques and endcliffe park is lovely. Nether Edge (other side of Psalter Lane) is quieter treelined streets (subdivided big houses into quiet flats). Fulwood and Crosspool are a bit posher and more suburban but very handy for buses to the uni and peak district, also lovely scenery nearby. Would personally avoid most of North Sheffield (Pitsmoor, Parsons Cross etc) for your needs (mostly a large council estate) and East Sheffield is a bit dull and suburban in my opinion (lots of new build estates and ex-council estates), South Sheffield is nice but not very handy for the uni (Dore and Totley seen as posh suburban villages, Woodseats and Meersbrook are nice areas with good parks, and terraced houses). Personally with your budget I'd either get a really nice city centre flat or look around West Sheffield (Endcliffe, Sharrow Vale, Greystones, Hunters Bar, Eccy Road etc).
  3. They are moving into Peacocks on the Moor until the new markets are built & then moving in the new units attached to there.
  4. Let's just hope the fella above doesn't complain about the noise too much again!
  5. Nice views and reasonably priced beer mind, but never eaten there.
  6. I discovered the antiques quarter myself the other day while visiting somewhere on Abbeydale Road, was really impressed, feels like a real hub of these kind of shops and my girlfriend absolutely loved browsing some of the shops while I went for a pint in the Broadfield (I'm not much of a shopper), keep up the good work, it's nice to see little quarters like this developing in Sheffield.
  7. Haha you're right, already signed for the house... Better not let my girlfriend see this thread or she'll probably change her mind!
  8. Yeah we had a look at a few streets that we were put off as the terraces were right onto the street or the streets looked shabby.. we're on a nice looking street with the odd tree with bay window terraces & front yards instead..
  9. Yeah I thought that sort of thing would apply more to estates with settled populations rather than an inner city area with a large number of transient people.. Have already signed a lease on a house (with a burglar alarm) so too late to back out now, but I've stayed in the Copthorne & been out around London a fair few times & never felt particularly unsafe as long as you take the usual precautions.. Have lived in parts of Manchester & Dublin that we're perceived as rough (Hulme & Finglas) & although there was the odd gang murder nothing that ever affected me.. Where I live now in York is an area full of down & outs, drinkers & drugs & Sharrow feels positively like a step up in comparison! It's a terraced house were moving to, a couple of streets away from the flats. Don't have any children yet but looking to start a family so if the local primary is good then all the better.. A few people have said there is a community spirit too & I like the sound of that.
  10. Cheers, don't worry I expected a few replies like the first few but its nice to hear from people who actually live there. I know it's any inner city area with a diverse population & some people would hate that but for me it's one of the draws.
  11. Hi, My Mrs & me are moving to Sheffield in a few weeks time & have found a really nice house in Sharrow.. From times I've spent in Sheffield I really like the area as seems to have a real buzz to it yet very handy for both town & nice areas like Endcliffe & Meersbrook Parks & Sharrow Vale Rd.. Love the Cremorne & all the restaurants & foreign supermarkets.. Does anyone else off here have any tips or experiences in Sharrow they wish to share?
  12. So is this why it shut down? Can't believe this person had the audacity to move into a flat above a bar on one of the busiest and liveliest streets in Sheffield & then complain about the noise!
  13. Does anyone know the fees they charge?
  14. Ah fantastic, saw them at Leeds in May & was the best gig I've been to in ages, wanted to get to the Holmfirth gig but no cheap digs & I can't drive so will hold out for this instead. Interesting place to see them too, a village hall in Stannington!
  15. There was only a couple of ads in our price range/areas that I could see) & unfortunately no pics) but I've messaged them asking for some more info & put an ad up myself to see if I have any luck.
  16. The Manchester evening news and London evening standard are both free in the city centre to increase circulation and advertising revenue, wonder why the Star hasn't gone down this route.
  17. Just wondered if anyone has ever used these & what your experiences are? We are moving to Sheffield soon & quite a few of the houses in our chosen areas & budget seem to be through Bloor, are they a decent agent to let from as you hear some horror stories these days? Also does anyone know if they are open on Saturdays for viewings as their website doesn't say? Also what sort of application fees they charge for getting a house? Does anyone recommend any other agents (& what sort of fees do they charge)?
  18. I'm coming down from York for this for my first beer festival in years. Looking forward to it. Anyone know how much the tokens are?
  19. Order on the internet I think, the reason they are so cheap is they basically are ran by their customers (via the message board). Giffgaff and 3 are the only networks that offer unlimited data for under £15 a month.
  20. The Crisis team are there to keep people out of hospital (or occasionally support people out of hospital), it's not an easy job and not always an approach that works for people but they do a good job by and large at what they do. What they aren't is a CMHT that is there to support people for a long time and have a dedicated care co-ordinator. They aren't there to really work on therapy or any kind of intervention, just to stop people having to have hospital admission. They also act as the gatekeepers for wards and as has been said have to assess numerous people at A&E. It's a really really tough job and like any you have some better than others but they're doing a tough job against a backdrop of cuts and increased pressure on services.
  21. Cheers that's what I thought, have to try and time the move well then.
  22. I had a look for the original tenancy the other day but think it might have got lost over the years, the standard legal position is usually one month though isn't it once a contract lapses?
  23. If you've already got a phone you can get a giffgaff sim card for £10 a month not even on a contract will give you 250 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited data and it runs on the O2 network so is usually pretty spot on.
