  2. Does anyone know where I can book a black cab from Crookes to town?
  3. In the never ending saga that is our house purchase, we are 6 months in to the process and our solicitor keeps raising query after query. A few weeks back she raised a query relating to the relocation of a gas meter. The vendor insisted no meter had ever been moved - and weeks passed with a stand off between both parties. I eventually looked into it myself, asking the solicitor how this query had arisen. The property has been extended & it transpires that she was looking at a photograph of the property noticed a white box on the front of the house- and made the assumption that this was a gas meter. It took me 5 mins to look through the fixtures list to find out this was not the gas meter (that was under the stairs) - it was not even the electricity meter, it was a box which supplied electricity to the house & was placed the by EON many years ago. Our solicitor is now insisting the vendor submits certification from the electricity supplier to confirm they did the works. Vendor says they were never given any documentation. I have contacted National Grid myself and they say its highly unusual for them to leave documentation where they carry out works, even for large jobs such as removal and relocation of supplies. They also said they have never come across such a query before. Does anyone have any experience of anything similar? All the internal electrical works have been signed off by an electrician and council building regs so v frustrating to be held up by a query which may not be 100% necessary. Would greatly appreciate any feedback/thoughts!!
  4. Thanks for your advice everyone. It turns out the vendors solicitor and estate agent were actually correct. The fireplace was removed in its entirety so does not require any certification. The gas meter is not even a gas meter. Our solicitor raised this query by looking at a photograph of the front of the house, spotted a white box & made the assumption that it was a gas meter. It is not a meter, but the box for the electricity supply to the house. This query has held us up for weeks. I am livid and am now seriously questioning the competence of our solicitor. I ended up ringing the vendor, the council and national grid myself. The latest query he has submitted now relates to this white box. She is saying that the vendor needs to supply certification that the works were legitimately carried out by the electricity supplier. However, the vendor holds no documentation. National Grid state that it is highly unusual for a request of this nature and they do not provide certification of the work they do - even extensive works such as removing metres or supplies. Cam anyone shed any light????? Our mortgage offer runs out next week & I'm exhausted with it all. ---------- Post added 23-03-2014 at 09:08 ---------- Incidentally, all the electrical works for the extension and inside the property have bee signed off by an electrician and by building control.
  5. Thanks everyone for your input. Has given me food for thought. I think I will try and contact the council myself on Monday. The whole process has been horrendous. We cannot believe how stressful it has been.
  6. Our solicitor is saying that because the council have already been involved this will not be an easy option. I have asked her to look into it for us but it is like pulling teeth!!
  7. We are 5 months in to a house purchase. We were getting pressure from our buyers as it had taken so long so we completed our sale last week and we have moved into temp rented accommodation, which has been a huge upheaval for our family. There is now a stand off between our solicitor and the vendors solicitor & estate agent. The house has been extended and modified inside. The council buildings depth inspected the property a weeks back to sign off the work on the extension, as required by our solicitor. We thought we were ready to complete but then our solicitor sys this pertains only to the extension and not to any of the works inside. (namely a widened doorway to create a through lounge, a fireplace removed and a gas meter moved to make way for the extension). The vendors team are saying the completion certificate from the council covers all of those works so further certification/plans are not required. Our solicitor says this is vague a d she will not release mortgage funds without at least seeing plans for the modification or certification. We are caught in the middle, stressed out of our minds. We have to believe our solicitor s acting in our best interests but are worried she is bring over zealous. The vendors estate agent has said our solicitor 'doesn't have a clue'. Can we swap solicitors at this late stage? Could we potentially use the same solicitor as our vendor to make the process smoother? Any advice would be appreciated. We don't know what to do for the best.
  8. Hi Does anyone out there have the Quinny Zapp Xtra - if so, what do you think of it? How does it compare to the regular Quinny Zapp? I have a Zapp which I used for my older daughter but it isn't really suitable for my new little one yet as it doesn't recline. I'm thinking of trading it in so am interested to hear what people think of theirs?
  9. To pick up from Westways Preschool Tues, Wed, Thurs. Have tried Sheffield Information Link without any luck so would be very grateful if someone could recommend a registered minder in the area. Thanks for looking!
  10. Oooer. I have to say it's not sounding great!! Thanks for your opinions everyone. I'll have to do some research I think.
  11. Hi We're considering a move from Crookes as we need a larger house for our expanding family. Have considered Hillsborough but there's not much available at the mo. Grenoside looks nice but I really don't know it at all. Is it a nice neighbourhood with good schools etc. Be interested to know your thoughts .....
  12. By the way, Foxforcefive, a laser can remove green pigment - it just depends which laser. We work with a ruby laser which has a red beam so it can sometimes struggle with colours on the red spectrum (red, orange, pink) but is very effective on blues and greens etc. I'm assuming you had treatment with a Yag? That is a blue beam and can struggle with colours on the blue spectrum which is probably why you have some green pigment remaining.
  13. I would urge anyone to be extremely cautious about having this done. I work at a laser clinic and we are seeing some horrendous scarring from these type of injectable treatments. Only this week I have seen two ladies who now have permanent scarring through tattoo Erase and they are devastated. The only way to address this scarring will now be through plastic surgery. We can't even adress the remaining tattoo with a laser now as the treatment has left the skin so thin. There is no quick fix to get rid of a tattoo. Laser treatment is not without it's risks but providing you find a reputable clinic who is registered with the Healthcare Commission, it is the safest method. It can take up to 15-20 sessions with a laser, possibly more but at least your skin will return to normal provided you adhere to all the aftercare advice and you will not be left with the awful hypopigmented scar tissue that can occur with tattoo Erase.
  14. My partner and I have just started thinking about planning for a second child (and whether we can actually afford another one!!!) I work part time but my company do not have a maternity policy. I'm confused as to what this means in terms of what I'm entitled to. I worked for a different company when I was pregnant 1st time around and I got maternity allowance as I hadn't been there that long. I also got a small amount of pay each month which I think was in relation to my holiday entitlement. I've looked on the directgov website but find it very confusing. (I've also just taken on a promotion at work so I have to be careful about asking 'baby questions' at present in case they question my commitment!!) Can anyone offer a bit of insight?? It'd be much appreciated!
  15. I saw a guy staging a protest outside their Crookes site the other week. He was holding a banner which said something along the lines that contracters and suppliers working for Merlin has not been paid. Oh dear.
