  1. I was there too, and I'm curious as to how and why he was able to guess so accurately so many people's birth signs and day of the week they were born. It's a random fact to throw at people. I know our names and addresses were recorded with the seat numbers when we bought the tickets, and I'm pretty sure I was asked for my date of birth too, which I thought unusual. I think he's possibly memorised everyone's birth sign and day they were born, which is why he needed to see where individual were sitting when they contributed to the show. It also explains why we had to put our initials on the envelope, as he's possibly memorised everyone's name too, and some addresses (remember he guessed that woman's address!) It was an amazing show, I've not stopped talking about it all day.
  2. I agree Norbert. It would have been nice to sit around and chill out for a bit longer, but I found my drink went too quickly, no reading matter, and the unruly kids created a desire to commit violent acts. But despite that, I thought the place was fab, the staff great, the ability to cater for vegans impressive, and the ambiance lovely. If you haven't been, go!
  3. I think it's fantastic! it's part cultural tour of Europe, part Big Brother, but with more realistic people. The tour guide, Brendan, is the best. he's always holding his head in his hands, shaking it in despair at the rabble he's got lumbered with. Bless!
  4. Went in other night, it was dead, but had good time on pinball (Dracula c1990) and pool, only 30p & 50p a pop respectively. Can't believe trade ain't picked up after the building of the Forge, what do you students out there make of it?
  5. There is also a German map in the Local Studies Library of where the intended targets for Sheffield were. Apart from the steel industry and factories, they were also aiming for hopitals and other shelters. It's interesting to match it up with what they ended up bombing.
  6. I think the place you're thinking of is Millhouse animal sanctuary in the Mayfield valley, near Lodge Moor. Here's`their website address http://millhouseanimalsanctuary.org.uk/ It's a lovely place, beautiful setting. Think they specialise in rescuing Shetland ponies. Ahhh!
  7. Three that I've seen many times and would watch again right now: Stardust Memories (Woody Allen) A Summer's Tale (Eric Rhomer) Dead Man's Shoes (Shane Meadows)
  8. ...the fact that the activities I mentioned don't annoy and distract other people. Just because you can sometimes hear other people's phone conversations, or children whining doesn't mean you have to add even greater noise and distraction. What I really means is that we should all try to be more considerate to others. If you stop singing on trains I'll promise not to rehearse my death metal band in your back room anymore.
  9. Drink all you like but don't be so rude as to sing songs that mean less than nothing to most of your fellow passengers. People want to relax, read, talk and do work on trains.
  10. He's giving a talk at the Fusion on Friday evening, if anyone is interested, along with Martin Lineker who's written a book about the Sheffield music scene in the 70s and 80s. There'll also be a local pop quiz, with prize. Don't know what it is tho.
  11. I remember Pippys as a slightly scary shop that always made me feel fascinated yet slightly inadequate. I also remember the vibrators, weren't they sold as some sort of massage instrument for sore necks?? The 70s hey, innocent times
  12. I've been playing 20+ years and have: Ibanez Roadstar: been playing it since 1984. Gordy Redshift Custom: Bought s/h from wavelength about 8 years ago. Pretty Rare, the company became Gordon Smith. Norman acoustic: A cheap Simon & Patrick I think. Honer 5 string bass: I try to avoid the low 5th string as it buzzes too much. I play it through a Marshall JTM 30 part valve combo.
  13. Blue Moon is great, but not esp romantic. Olive Garden on Surry St has been closed down for quite a while. I usually enjoy Kumquat Mae and the atmosphere is better for romance. The food is fairly expensive but tempered by the BYO policy. Sheiks & QueTal on West St are veggie friendly, but to be honest just about every decent restaurant is ok for veggies nowdays. Avoid chain pub meals though as they are stuck in the 70s - Veg Lasagne, Mushroom Stroganoff etc.
  14. Saw him at arena, I was very near the front and could see everyone on stage well. Bob's singing was way out of time, and his guitar/harmonica playing were awful. Surely he's trading 90% on his past reputation, which is surely unfair to fans of good music. BTW I count several of his albums amongst my favourites.
  15. I bought my clio 2 months ago from a garage next to that small police station on chesterfield road at heeley for £1,200. They were really friendly and helpful, and all the cars are checked out by the RAC. They even cleaned the car and put some petrol in for me before I drove it away.
