  1. Hello Just to let you know from someone who as large freestanding wardrobes that when you come to redecorate it's a right pain as the brush doesn't quite fit at the back of the wardrobe so you end up with a line, we are now in the process of trying to get our free standing wardrobes fitted so we can redecorate and re floor. Just something worth thinking about
  2. Thank you for your response, just a couple more questions please: Is it suitable to have under carpets? Can you have it under Kardean? Can you have it in upstairs room ie the bedroom? Does each room need it's own switch on the electrics consumer box in order to have it's own thermostat? I ask this because we might do each room as we redecorate, not all the rooms at once. You mentioned that concrete takes along time to heat up and cook down, how long are we talking because if we have solar panels fitted should we warm the floor through in the day free of charge then switch it off at night letting it cool down or would it be cheaper to get the insulation board fitted underneath? Many thanks in advance
  3. If it were to switch one side off and the other side on then it would only be producing half the amount at all times, wouldn't it be better to have both sides on at all times as surely the peak of the roof would get sun all the time due to it's highness? Thanks
  4. Thanks, I'll need to factor that in when getting quotes then.
  5. We are planning to knock through the kitchen into the dining room and straighten the outside wall up ie on new houses they have a bay in the dining room with like a silver roof not sure what material it's made from, if we take down the bay and this roof what is the outside wall going to look like? Ie will it leave a pattern where roof was attached to the outside wall? Thanks
  6. Just a suggestion but wouldn't it be better to breakdown this post into several ie one for recommended builders then another for recommended plumbers etc etc as it takes ages to read through it all to find what you are looking for. Thanks
  7. Hi I'm just wondering which room you are doing and why you decided on electric underfloor heating, I am just researching this topic at the moment. Thanks
  8. I would really like to install underfloor heating however i have concrete floors downstairs and I've been told that it would need to come up if I want water as it requires about 7 inches to install. However an electric mat could just be laid on top of the concrete but I've heard the electric version is very expensive to run and although we are having solar panels fitted in the winter it will be on at night when they aren't generating anything. As anybody had electric underfloor heating fitted throughout the downstairs and if so how much does it cost to run, also reading through previous posts on this subject someone mention about it taking ages to warm up as it will warm the concrete floor first. Can anyone shed any further light on this. Many thanks
  9. Hello I'm now looking for an experienced bedroom fitter as I've had a few joiners round and no one wants to touch the job. Basically we have got freestanding Italian wardrobes and I now want them fitting to the Walls so we can floor round them and redecorate. I would also if possible want one of the wardrobes changing but it's not essential. If anyone is willing to come and look at the job I live in south Rotherham. Many thanks
  10. We have had a couple of companies out now and I'm getting confused, is it better to have a lot of small panels that don't produce as much KW or have less bigger panels that produce more. Also one company said Phono Solar panels are the best and another recommended Sanyo sola panels but suggested I have some that are not as efficient but have more of them as they are cheaper. Also do I need to insure the panels on my home insurance policy and will they require regular cleaning? Also I have a East to West facing house so I'd really like panels on both sides of the roof, why is this such a problem. Many thanks
  11. Hello We have decided to not have an extension for a number of reasons but I still want to knock my kitchen through into my dining room plus there is a utility room between them so I'll need 2 RSJs there then I want windows across the back of the house so another long RSJ there but then I want to take some space from my lounge and downstairs toilet to make a big kitchen dinner so possibly another RSJ there. I am in the Rotherham area, can anyone recommend me a good company that would be interested in coming out to quote for the work. There will also be an alarm box to move. Also if anyone can give me a rough quote so I know what sort of price is a good price. Finally do I still need a set of plans for this type of job? Many thanks Many thanks
  12. Hello I live in a 3 storey house and want to change the velux windows on the top floor into a dorma French door. Do I need a Roofer or Loft Conversion Specialist for this job and also will I require planning etc. Can anybody give a rough estimate in terms of price. Thanks
  13. Andy Thanks for your reply. So do you think we would be better to replace the whole system and if so what do you recommend as I am lead to believe that new boilers are flushed anyway, is that true? I am also hoping to have underfloor heating installed throughout the downstairs plus it will need to have a high bar pressure as there will be 4 bathrooms once the extension is finished. Thanks
  14. Hi I work on the hellaby industrial estate and live on the woodlaithes estate as you get alot for your money. It really is a question of budget and what you are hoping to achieve for it. Wickersley comprehensive is the best in Rotherham and therefore people try to live within the catchment area Wickersley,Bramley and Sunnyside (Woodlaithes). I really wouldn't recommend Hellaby as it's Maltby catchment and whilst schools may not be a priory for you it might effect the saleability of your house if you chose to move it in the future. Hope that helps
  15. Hi we have the above boiler on the 3 floor between 2 bedroom with a large landing down the side of it, we were wondering if we could turn the boiler a full 90 degrees so that the door to the boiler opens up onto the stairs landing leaving all the space at the side of it free to use for an en-suite. Can anyone tell me if this is possible. Many thanks
  16. Due to the current housing Market we have been unsuccessful in selling our house so we have decided an extension is the way forward but we are not sure on costs, I have rung a few builders but no one is interested without plans and I don't want to waste money getting plans drawn up for builders to then turn round and say £100k because the estate agents have already told us on an estate we will be lucky to get back between a third and half what we spend. I have drawn my own set of plans which are 4 1/2 meters out to the side of the house and 8 meters length of the house, the second floor however is the same as the ground floor plus going over the detached double garage which is at an almost 90 degrees to the house ie it would become a corner house. We would also like floor to ceiling windows going accoss the back of the house which will end up been around 12 meters and underfloor heating throughout the ground floor. Can anyone help on this matter? If a 2 storey extension turns out to be too expensive we might have to consider a single storey. Many thanks
