  1. Faint recollections of Jed ( Kevin) bellowing " BEULLA " across the playground This may have been in admiration of a perfectly struck " LOGAN " inflicted on some poor unsuspecting victim .............. by another pupil ? Used in conjunction with a secondary " DEADLEG" the victim's recovery could be quite prolonged , and never forgotten . Though the expression " PEARLER " may have been the appreciative term for that particular infliction . The rigours of Waltheof Playground Etiquette, may well have befitted a Roman Gladiator ---------- Post added 31-01-2018 at 16:40 ---------- Mr Mawson , once gave Me & Thee 1100 lines to write over the weekend , I recall , after Him witnessing a " battle of the inkwell" spat twixt ourselves. He also bet that you handed in your's before moi' , He was of course , correct . Glad to see you made a career of it , Mr D Still trying to finish mine , for those who stay awake. Cheers.
  2. Indeed , Some extremely odd persons have frequented said grassland in years past ? Sunday Markets , circ@ 1975 / 76 They often drove Viva HB 's and Mk1 Escorts. The new craze was for " Continental Quilts " Denis Moor springs to mind ............
  3. Cheers Steve. Have a good one. It's better to be lucky than to be good.
  4. Hollandisms continued : " For all those little mannekins ( first years ) who have not yet heard rumours of me ? Let me tell you that I am much worse " " Anyone late with their homework will be flogged until they bleed " " Hearson ! " ( Kevin) who was misfortunate to have been ogling the Girls netball practice via the nearby window ..... " Get out into that yard lad , and perform netball with Miss Semmens ( netball teacher ) which He duly did . as if He had a choice. He was run ragged , but never stopped smiling. Kevin H was , and hopefully still is , an extremely pleasant lad who's natural hangdog expression , then subsequent grin , still reminds me of Paul Newman in the Film " Cool Hand Luke " Some Guys ( and Gals) whom attended Waltheof had a pretty tough upbringing , maybe the harshness of the regime was to help prepare us for future life's ups and downs , putting it mildly ? ---------- Post added 17-12-2016 at 21:12 ---------- Nearly forgot " Man Bites Policeman "
  5. Step out here my scruffy little manikin , and let me lay some willow across your sweaty little palms ! I must not swear, you are only little boys , yet. Upon espying " titch" Wright outside the medical room , who had a desire to become a jockey . Ben proclaimed " what's the matter Mr Wright ? have you fallen at the first ? Priceless.
  6. Yo Dude. Regards to M . and Yes , I do remember ............ bloomin eck that was some time ago. Will await P.M,s Welcome to the Delusions of Adequacy Club ! I signed up long - since . Nanoo Nanoo .
  7. Industry Road , Peaked Cap , GreatCoat , DartFoot games no visible signs of intelligence ?
  8. No Pm Yet , But from the names you mention it sounds like you are from the year before us. ? ( we Left Wtf. Easter - 71 ) there were two escape tunnels per anum in those days , though a few went over the wire for various reasons........... Just tread carefully on here , it is not a secure website and personal info often gets hacked . Paranoia rules ................. Cheers.
  9. Very Sadly , after prolonged illness , John passed on a few years ago . We lived within 1 mile of each other for over twenty years without realising it , met again via this forum , and subsequently managed to have a few giggles at our drum from time to time, along with a few invited fellow Stalag - Waltheof internees . A Good Lad gone.
  10. Your Dad ( Ernest ) Gave a us ( Me and Thee) a rollicking for " Parking" our pushbikes in a heap at the front of your Littledale abode ! well, it gave me mechanical sympathy at least ............... Mr D. was ( is ) well respected for His panel bashing skills , nice bloke too. You had a large collection of Car Badges removed from damaged vehicles that were deemed scrap , bet some of them are classics in their own right now ? Long time now . Happy Times. Regards.
  11. Not that it's any of my business , I Think this is supposed to be a Waltheof thread ? There are specific " Darnall " related threads on this Forum , which a quick search will reveal , and may avoid confusion ? Though at our age(s) probably not . Opinion works both ways, probably best not knowing what the Teachers thought of us ?
  12. [Hope u got my message Ok Dufflecoat ---------- Post added 04-02-2016 at 22:36 ---------- Darnex Predictive text is a pain ha ha Yes, thank you.
  13. Kind words, and very well put. Respect , an emotion which is often absent , in thought and deed. I am sure many more would have attended had they known .
  14. Firstly , I would like to thank " Susiewoosie" for the notification. I was very privileged to pay my respects at " Pop's " service today . It was a fitting tribute to a well - loved and dedicated Headmaster , and totally unique individual . Reference was also made to Mr. Postlethwaite's Service to His Beloved Country during WW2 , the flag of the R.A.F being ever - present throughout the service. He was , and will forever be , held in high esteem by countless persons that He touched upon. not least myself . Many persons managed to attend this Celebration of His Selfless and very Fulfilled life . and doubtless many more were there in thought, if not in person. An impossible act to follow. Goodbye Sir. ---------- Post added 03-02-2015 at 13:45 ----------
  15. http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/former-sheffield-headteacher-dies-aged-91-1-7074410 A fitting tribute to a very humble , yet remarkable Man . ( He would not have thought himself as anything other than ordinary) Possessing the most integrity of any person I ever met , he would help anyone . An awful lot of people owe " Pop " a debt of thanks , including myself . My Condolences to His Family. Respect:
  16. Memory often plays silly tricks, I remember stuff from donkeys years ........ Then wonder where I put my car keys today . I grew up with Liz , same street, we were and hopefully still are - good friends. She moved to Northampton area ( Due to Her Dad's work) shortly after starting senior school. Later attended Uni . and finished up in Bristol. Became a freelance management trainer .often working for many blue - chip companies. There is more , which is entirely personal & private, certainly not for any Forum .or anyone else . Judith ( or Judy as she now prefers ) used to be on the old friends - reunited, attesting Her move to Oz. Mr. Mawson was old school , He and his lifelong friend & colleague Mr Curtois ( Science Teacher) were both gentleman , truly dedicated and suffered fools badly ! Mawson used to send any miscreants to " Pop " for the stick . including Moi' Archie Mawson was a bit of a Francophile , and loved Edith Piaf. He sometimes used a Metronome in class , which often sent us to sleep. His favourite joke " Q.what do you call an Imp on the Paris underground ? A. " a Metro - Gnome " ---------- Post added 03-12-2014 at 22:37 ---------- I was in the Yellow team, Hamiltons. Linda Hayward. I loved sports and swimming and was head of the rounders team for the last 2 yrs. I think you mean " Hamptons " Linda , I still have my Hamptons "swimming" badge, yellow with a white bar. and all my Whitby rd swimming Cert's. You can take the lass out of Sheffield , but ...................?
  17. Hello again Ali. Not heard from Liz this past few years now , don't know if She still follows this forum , maybe ? Someone mentioned earlier that Rowena resides in the Kiveton Park area ? not had any contact though . The naturally talented artist was Robert Taylor . sometimes known as " Tats " I think the Family moved to Coventry since Rob left Waltheof in appx. year 3 Not sure where Rob. Marshall went to , possibly The Guards . Miss Donachie , who could forget , She was a real Looker ! We must have learned something though , since we can spell and use grammar . ( mostly) Mr Cooper was easy to fathom , just pretend you loved cricket and hated Miss Sarson , you were then his friend for life . Dennis Cooper wasn't really a bad man , He did a lot for the local community , but sometimes failed to control his inner demons , as do most of us from time to time. Certainly a character though. Also remember you were pretty handy with a javelin . * Be careful putting personal details on here ! this website is NOT secure .
  18. Hi Ali. Last I heard from Liz She was living in the Bristol Area and doing OK . Remember you as Ali . A at whitby rd , then later Ali. L at stalag - waltheof . Younger Bro' named Yaqub ? Indeed Mr. B. Holland ! lunchtime frequenter of the three - feathers pub , woe betide who got the 1st lesson afterwards ! Quote : " come out here my little manekin , and let me lay some willow across your filthy paws " " what did you draw that homework with lad ? a stub out of the gutter ? " followed by an almighty whack with the T - Square . Good to hear you are still around . * I think it may have been Judith Burley who went to Oz.
  19. You may have been in 1B - along with Paul Johnson etc ? We had close communities then............ shame it didn't much prepare us for the rigours to come at Stalag -Waltheof , I left there having learned absolutely nowt , apart from getting out at the earliest oppertunity . Those I kept in touch with who passed the 11+ and went on to grammar school, led a totally different life . Cheers Kev.
  20. I attended Carol's wedding when She Wed Dave Otter- in Sheffield Cathedral . but that was 40 years ago. Dave drove a Mk.2 Zodiac at the time.
