  1. I remember reading somewhere that one of the Burgoyne’s built Livesey Street and so presumably, the bridge. He then charged each funeral 6d for the privilege of using it!!

  3. I remember the old B. &. C. co-op on Boyland Street. I used to deliver newspapers in that area, Manners Street, Cook Street, Boyland Place, Boyland Street, Rutland Road, Rutland Terrace, Rutland Square, Hicks Street, Percy Street etc.
  4. Dad used to take fresh milk in a screw-top bottle. Failing that, it was condensed milk (Nestle's or Fussells) because it kept much longer!

  6. I don't have any connection with Whiteley's Coaches. I knew of their sweet shop because I lived lower down on Infirmary Road back in the '50's. It's SUTman who is interested in the photographs.

  9. If I remember correctly, their logo was a pair of scissors and their alternative name was "scissor powders".
  10. Seidlitz powder • A laxative preparation containing tartaric acid, sodium potassium tartrate, and sodium bicarbonate which effervesces when mixed with water.
