  1. Must admit that as a twenty year old a long time ago if a boozer was known to be packed with birds and had groups or a disco on,then me and my mates would be there,Beer birds and music would though eventually lead to bother.:suspect:Pubs where this happened more than often were the Blue Bell at hackenthorpe,Old Harrow Gleadless TE. Centrespot,Big Tree Woodseats,At weekends the Lathkill Dale Hotel and the Monsal Head hotel the guys out there were really possessive with their women,:loopy:one of the other pubs to avoid out of sheffield was the Grapes at Dalton in Rotherham.Never went to Pitsmoor though, think possibly because it was full of ugly women and blokes having nowt better to do than look for bovver!
  2. Concede the point about the traffic bad at peak times and main roads poorly planned. Shops that nobody needs, everybodies needs are different and you certainly have a variety on woodseats and abbey lane. I can bring to mind 11 pubs within easy walking distance of central woodseats each with their own character and differing clientelle. Nicer areas I'm sure we'd all like to live in Millhouses,Dore,Beauchief,Totley maybe have our kids privately tutored and our shopping delivered but until I win the lottery woodseats will do fine for me!
  3. Yeh Stoke Hall a bit further out went there a couple of times for disco, looked reyt grand from outside, but once inside what a dive plaster crumbling off the walls, purple and cream paint and poorly fitted carpets!Yaaaak! Mind you I'm only going back 40years.
  4. Think I'm getting to the old f**rt stage now but I was born and raised in meersbrook, moved out to coal aston, married and moved back into sheff.rented property on bennett st. highfields for 3 years till saved a deposit for house.Bought one on Haughton Rd.woodseats lived there 15 years brought 3 kids up wonderful schools, woodseats infants and junior, then meadowhead.Got everything woodseats good shops great parks choice of pubs within walking distance, library.Since then have moved over to other side of chessy Rd and have lived cartmell rd for past 25 yrs which is a bit quieter wouldn't live anywhere else.Do my drinking in Laycocks sports club marvelous place can sit outside on grass in summer great for kids friendly people cheap beer, come and join us.
  5. On the nostalgic side, and I know it's not in sheffield but a few years ago on a friday night a lot of sheffielders used to travel out to the Marquis of Granby at bamford for the disco, but more than often you'd end up in a fight.:help:Then all of a sudden a Dance would break out!
  6. Hope not it's where I get most of my stuff from. Was in there a couple of weeks ago. Failing that any decent computer shop should be able to get one.
  7. A decent computer shop should be able to do you a compatable one for around £25-£30. Dont know where you are but B&S computers at darnall may be able to help you give em a ring.
  8. Going to lincoln market on friday 2nd by coach from millhouses not been before heard its great,am looking forward to it.
  9. Ford focusses known for being a bit 'cheesey', are u leaving any behind you on the road when turning right?
  10. If you live at woodseats do you know where Laycock sports club is?(on Archer Road Nr sainsbury's)they have a large concert room for use just join as a member around £12 for the year no charge for the room £50 deposit refundable if no damage.Cheap drinks.Use of the grounds outside sit out if its nice.Resident DJ for hire £40 Bouncy castle for the kids call in and have a chat with Dianne or Yvonne behind the bar. They have a website aswell just google 'laycock sports club' and have a look.
  11. If I can digress slightly to another example of planning genius in woodseats, one of the main reasons for the increase in congestion on woodseats as I have said was the closing of ulverston rd(off Archer Rd). Then the building of a retail/business park on Little london Rd.toward Broadfield Rd a new intersection was built Traffic light controlled,of course,at the Broadfield Rd - Little london Rd junction suddenly you have a main thoroughfare from Abbeydale Rd and Heeley Bottom to woodseats in the form of what was a minor backroad (ie little london) which is clearly unable to cope, businesses on this road park vehicles on both sides of the road, the railway bridge is not suitable for two way traffic to pass beneath, and one of the most laughable events is the parking of cars on both sides of the double bend at what used to be the old Wardsons factory/post office.Just another piece of planning genius.
  12. I have lived in the woodseats area for almost 40 years, and have worked the other side of meadowhead,in dronfield for 23 of those years and used meadowhead on a regular basis. It used to be that woodseats was busy at rush hour times twice per day,but during the the day was fairly quiet.Problems really began with the build up of traffic when ulverston road was closed to through traffic effectively reducing the routes into the city centre by 30% this compounded by the location of traffic light junctions on and around meadowhead have now made this route into town farcical. Not only traffic lights but the top of meadowhead is also a popular haunt for the police with radar traps.Needless to say I do not use meadowhead at all now.
  13. How stupid are those traffic lights toward the bottom of meadowhead alongside a bus-gate,they are designed to cause a build up of traffic. Maybe the council ordered too many sets of lights and are just using 'em up.
  14. From my experience of the sheaf it had a hardcore of about a dozen regular customers but would liven up somewhat at weekends due to the managements tendency for a bit of after hours which was renowned in the area! If this place is going to be reliant on local patrons then i'm afraid it will not last long!
