  1. Sorry mate, that's twaddle. Find me 6 weeks worth of pictures of mps "lounging around on some paradise of a beach" and I'll bear my arse in a shop window of your choice. You'll see them abroad yes, but more often they bringing a (metaphysical) aid cheque with them or drumming up a bit of business for the uk. Or both, which Cameron did in India recently. Or they could just be on holiday and paid for it themselves - that's allowed isn't it ? I don't doubt one or two will try and blag a fact finding trip to the Caribbean but I reckon these are few and far between and certainly not once a week.
  2. If you want I'll help you. Give me all your money. :hihi:
  3. I don't know how you'd get it. I'm quite sure it won't be on any questionnaire with regards to benefits. It's perfectly legal so it's not going to show up on crime stats. I found a stat showing how many households that are full of people who have never worked, but I think you'll struggle to find anything one way or another. I don't think it's a massively high figure or the government(s) would have shown the figure to placate the daily mail.
  4. You aren't wrong. Sky wasn't playing ball (I watched 93 mins of k19 widow maker only for it to go no further - other stuff on demand wasn't working right either and the only fix will <<horror>> clear my planner !!) so I was reduced to playback on "horizontal Saturday". What a load of arse.
  5. I can't find a poll, or any documentation that it exists at all - are you saying it therefore doesn't happen ?
  6. Left school in 75 at Easter break, started work 3 days later @ WE Franklins, then after 3 years went down pit for 3 years. Then has 16 years at 2 different engineering shops, on machines & setting, & last 16 years in current job. I've had 2 weeks on dole in 38 years, nowadays people want something for no input not got the same get & and go. ---------- Post added 03-03-2013 at 18:51 ---------- You can get instantly sacked a lot easier now, they have ensured that workers rights are all but eroded. I'll take on board certain comments but I can say without doubt that last line is completely wrong unless you are an agency worker (as has been pointed out) or you pay someone off. If you can find evidence to the contrary, please show it.
  7. So if everybody does it, what are left with - 80% vat rates and 8 quid for a litre of petrol ? If you want the Nhs, the welfare state, armed forces etc you need someone to pay for it. Does it not seem fair that big businesses pay for it out of nett profits ??
  8. Things that a worker is guaranteed now : Sick pay, holiday pay, maternity pay, paternity pay, lots of H & S legislation to protect them, sexual, age, racial, disability discrimination protection, minimum wage. 30 years ago you could get sacked on the spot. Apart from gunning down the boss I don't what you have to get instantly dismissed.
  9. 30 years ago ? 1983 ? Things were great, jobs plentiful under thatcher ??? Blimey that's an about face if I ever I saw one !!
  10. So people, regular people who save with an isa, designed by the government with a tax free incentive to encourage savers is the same as a corporation seeking to use loopholes to avoid paying any corporation tax, ie not the way they were designed to be, is the same thing ?
  11. J Edgar. I quite enjoyed this. I new a bit about him but not alot so that helped. Had I known alot I'm sure I'd be shouting at the telly about the inaccuracies that were probably there. Had some nice period details, clint Eastwoods slightly twee piano score in the background and dicaprio was pretty good - his makeup artist very good. It wasn't the fastest paced film ever but it wasn't bad. 7.5/10
  12. Hurrah, I thought I was the only one thinking it. By paying your pound a year, you're agreeing with the council that they can't make money from a venue that should be making money not losing it. It will be left to rot for another year because the council tax payers expect so little from scc.
  13. Playback. Crappy horror, a bit like the ring, but much worse. Also has two points deducted for Americans playing football. A number 11 in goal with the same strip as outfield players ? It should be banned. 2/10
  14. But if you're faffing about in the middle lane, I've got to go from lane 1 to 3, rather than 1 to 2. I drove to Hampshire and back this week, using all 3 lanes (indeed 4 in some places) and not once went over 70. Those who claim the outside lanes are for those doing 80+ clearly don't drive on the motorway much.
  15. A good post and I hope you find work soon. Heaven and earth should be moved to help people like you, you've been in work you are actively seeking work when there isn't much about. But I bet you've queued up to sign on once or twice and found yourself behind someone who hasn't worked and will never worked - I know I did. I'd happily be pay more out of my taxes for someone to get work quickly for the recently unemployed to get them a job whilst skills are still fresh. The permenately jobless who still manage a widescreen telly and other trappings that the employed can't always manage ? Not so much. Time for a two tier benefits system ?
  16. Jumping the gun a bit though aren't they ? Even if it was for hs2, are you seriously suggesting scc are that organised ? Doubt it !!
  17. I suppose it's what you compare Sheffield to really ? Is it as bad as Rotherham, Doncaster, Luton, Bradford, peterborough ? No, not by a long chalk. Is it as nice or interesting as Oxford, Brighton, Leeds or York ? No. Not really comparable to London, Manchester or Birmingham.
  18. I see you're point, but the end result could well be starving children, or kids dumped at the social. Do we want a load more kids in care ?
  19. The thing that narks me more is that bush, even after he left office, still tries to link iraq with al Qaida and 911 (he did it at length in sky news interview). Does he think people are that stupid.
  20. Shouldn't need it. An established venue like that should be giving everyone a pound back.
  21. And in another council meeting in another part of the country, they decide they'd quite like a stadium. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lincolnshire-21621293
  22. In theory a good idea. Sadly that sort of blue sky thinking was needed years back, not now. As a forum there have been a few ideas on here worth thinking about in the good times. I doubt scc were burdened with any or we wouldn't be where we are now.
  23. Speaking of right wing, I noticed the bnp were absent from this. Considering I heard one or two "dey terk er jerb" type interviews on the radio over the last couple of weeks, I'm surprised they didnt chuck their hat (or white hood) in the ring. Have they finally imploded or has nick griffin eaten all the members ?
  24. Valid points, yccc are circling the wagons like everyone else. Back in the 90s Sheffield had some great venues like gatecrasher etc in top of places like the arena and city hall, dvc could have been part of that. As it happens places like Leeds (surprise !) gets a big festival and Sheffield doesnt. So, really, this thread should have been active 6 or 7 years ago (it was probably solvent then with rotherham playing there). Too late now. Flatten it and build a car park (to be sold off for a quid in a years time). A small monument should be erected showing what it cost and what it should have made.
