  1. What about the cyclists that fly past the doors at the back of the train station! It really shocks me sometimes, I've nearly been knocked flying as I've emerged out those doors near the tram stop! I mean surely it just takes a bit of common sense that there might actually be people coming out of there and that those on bikes should try and slow down or dismount for a couple of seconds! Really!
  2. Has anyone got any idea what's causing a grid lock on Barnsley Rd tonight? A friend just called me up to say it's grid locked and they're stuck in it. Thanks
  3. I travel this way to work from Chesterfield to Sheffield and then back again. They are doing bridge repair work but there is no indication as to when it will be finished. I think the problem is, people driving like maniacs, trying to get in before other drivers, before the lane goes into one. There is ample signage and the speed limit reduces to 50mph and then finally to 30mph to give people time. People just need to stop rushing about so flipping much and calm down a bit! I always try to get in the lane as soon as I can and start slowing my car down but I always have some plonker tailgating me at the 50mph sign and I just understand why, when there's plenty of warning and it's not like they're going to really get anywhere faster! I don't find this a problem in the morning at all, in fact in some ways, I'm actually quite glad of these repair works because it does, I think, help to slow some drivers down a bit, who probably would otherwise be driving at 95 mph or above! The road is bad in general and majority of drivers on there are bonkers and drive well over the speed limit, regardless of weather conditions or lighting. I think there needs to be speed cameras on there or regular police presence to calm it down a bit! One day there will be a fatal accident on there, I just hope I'm not the one involved!
  4. Hi, I was walking through Sheffield Train Station this morning with my sister and a man ran past us heading towards one of the staircases down to the platforms. The next thing we knew, another man who must have come up the staircase fell down on the floor and complained about his back hurting. He was finding it hard to get back up and then said he couldn't breathe. A station member of staff went to his aid and we also went up too. The member of staff asked us if we could get the emergency services. Just wondered how the man was, if anyone knew. Really hope he was OK. Not sure what happened. I don't know if the man who was running for his train, banged into him, knocked him over and winded him because we didn't actually see the other man fall.
  5. Well said. That's all it's become, one upmanship! Not everyone is like that though, there will be some doing it purely for the enjoyment. It's a bit of a chavvy culture, nobody thinking for themselves, following what everyone else is doing like sheep! Where' s the fun and spontaneity? I would like to go dressed like a geek just to annoy all those planning for months on end. Have fun guys it's not a competition! ?
  6. I should be you're right! I'm Sheffield born and bred though and only lived in Chez for 8 years. You can take the girl out of Sheffield but you can't take Sheffield out of the girl and all that! ☺
  7. No problem! I've checked the SYT travel website and it is closed again all day tomorrow and all day next Monday and Tuesday too.
  8. Just in case you don't know. The whole of Gleadless Common is closed today for resurfacing. Not sure if it will be open later on but it has cause a nightmare journey for a lot of commuters this morning! There wasn't any signs until you were actually approaching the road, which then led to drivers waiting again in another queue of traffic! Not nice for those commuting from Chesterfield or further afield and having to endure waiting in the huge hold-up just to get to Gleadless Townend. Oh, I know I'm ranting but I don't care! If you want to be a troll and leave me a derogatory comment, feel free! I really couldn't give a toss! Just don't want any other drivers to feel the stress I felt this morning, I wouldn't wish that on anybody! Thanks for reading.
  9. That is hilarious! I like Crystal Peaks though, can't help it but I do. I live in Chesterfield now but if I need to get quite a few things, I'll pop over to CP to get them . It's free parking, decent choice of shops for what I need and it's quite near my parents' house, so I can call on them for a while afterwards. Sometimes it's just nice to be somewhere that isn't pretentious with some good old Sheffielders saying 'love' to me and somewhere I can say 'love' to someone and not feel like a outsider lol! By the way, I'm not one of those 'big girls' described, I'm slim. You see, not all women that visit CP are overweight you know!
  10. My sis saw a ring necked parakeet a few weeks ago in High Green, They are getting more widespread now . Their call is very squeaky, sounds a bit like a squeaky toy! ---------- Post added 05-04-2016 at 10:12 ---------- Wow! I don't want to doubt you but are you sure it was a swift? I saw my first swallow a couple of days ago but they are always the earliest. Swifts arrive much later. If it was a swift, that is very early!
  11. Oh come on pal! We really could do without trolls like you on here making the most pathetic comments! Seriously, what is happening with the human race and what chance do we have with people like this! Hope the taxi driver is OK. Don't know what is happening in Intake lately. I grew up there and my parents still live there, it's very worrying!
  12. If you could have a like button on here, I would click I like this! I agree. Fair enough it was a very busy time of the morning but there is never a problem like this on city road normally. It was just very frustrating that other cars further down, were carrying on as if there was no problem whatsoever, whilst further up, the hold up was getting ridiculous and would have extended to Mansfield Road and Ridgeway Road no doubt. It would have been good to have had some traffic direction from somewhere, it was a just a joke!
  13. Anyone know what happened on City Road this morning? Was stuck in an ever-growing hold up just after Eastern Avenue and no one was moving! However, cars coming out of Wulfric Road, were fine and were able to carry on down City Road as normal. Couldn't see much, but could make out some police car lights flashing around the Cradock Road area. There didn't appear to be anyone directing traffic. I along with other cars, ended up backing up and going on an alternative route!
  14. I'm pleased that it's still possible to see the ISS going over. I thought sightings wouldn't be possible until autumn/winter! I must remember to look out tonight, although it might be a but cloudy, we'll have to see! ☺ ---------- Post added 12-06-2015 at 20:21 ---------- Each to their own Mr Bloke but I'm not keen on it. You do have to keep an open mind about these things and think logically, I totally agree with that but sometimes people aren't very creative with their explanations and insult your intelligence in the process. Some are genuinely trying to help like the ones suggesting the B2 and the satellites etc but helicopter and reflections of light fittings, really is suggesting that the OP is s buffoon, which they are clearly not! It's highly likely that the craft is a secret military one and not well known or not known at all, except to the authorities. As Tek no logic pointed out, there are those lights that have been seen that move erratically and with incredible speed not possible in Earth's atmosphere to us Earthlings, how these are crafts that are interesting and worthy of investigation, not just dismissed! ---------- Post added 17-06-2015 at 16:32 ---------- I know this topic is old news now but if anyone is interested, a friend on Facebook said that he saw this 'object' and got the binoculars on it. He said it looked very much like two large aircraft that seemed to be escorted by a much smaller one, he suspected could be a Typhoon escort. The large craft did not have flashing nav lights just 2 lights at the front facing forward. He suspected they could be the Russian bombers that have recently being invading our airspace.
  15. I have to say, that there are a lot of doubters on here and I know people are trying to think of logical explanations and trying to help but I think most folk aren't 'daft' as you think and they know when they've seen something a bit more unusual. It certainly wasn't the police helicopter, so let's rule that out once and for all and not mention it again please! There's always a possibility it was an aircraft, although from the descriptions, it doesn't sound like an identifiable aircraft of any sort. It could possibly have been a drone, or military type of craft, failing that, it was a UFO (which doesn't necessarily mean alien craft!!). It wasn't a Chinese lantern, bird, kite, firework, flare, traffic cone, helicopter, glider, street light, reflection of a lamp inside a house:rolleyes: etc etc, so please don't insult people's intelligence Thank you!
