  1. Hi, you don't "need" caravan insurance, legally. It's not a legal necessity for your caravan to be insured separately from your car however you should technically inform your car insurance company that you have "modified" your car by fitting a towbar. If you tow without a specific caravan insurance policy and were to hit someone with your caravan, the car insurance would cover the third party aspect but any other things bundled like accident recovery etc most likely wouldn't so if you were unlucky enough to be involved in any kind of incident you might find yourself out of pocket significantly - and fully comp car insurance wouldn't cover costs of repair or replacement to your caravan. Also if something happened when the caravan was not being towed (say for instance the brakes failed whilst it was uncoupled and rolled down a hill and caused damage) then you would be personally liable if not covered by a separate policy In short, it's not a legal requirement but you are taking on the responsibility of incurred costs other than 3rd-party. Breakdown cover is another thing to watch for too...

  4. Old thread I know but we found Nova Electronics through this thread and wanted to add our two penn'orth. We had a Dorma automatic door that stopped working, would have cost in 4 figures to replace - and Dorma wanted a fortune to even send a tech out to just look at it - and we'd already been advised that spares for the model were classed as "obsolete". We pulled out the control box, popped it to Nova and within a week, at great value, they'd repaired it and it now works perfectly again. It's thanks to searching this forum for electronics repair that we found Nova, so for anyone else who may in the future be searching for electronics repair in Sheffield, we have no qualms about giving them a 100% positive review for their know-how and service

  6. Hi, thanks all for your replies and it highlights what we originally thought, that there isn't an easy option with a store our size - a smaller floor area would be easier to manage allowing well behaved dogs. Whilst some of the ideas would be lovely, like the doggy creche in-store, it wouldn't be practical sadly - shame as I'd love to volunteer for a stint - having handled plenty of rescue runs with dogs of varying temperaments I can see there are far too many unknowns and potential issues. Similarly my experience (as a staff member, not company owner) with having transported dogs makes me uncomfortable with crates - I'd want to disinfect after each use with Virkon or similar and that's not, in practice, practical. Especially with the recent case mentioned in the news of store-bought pups carrying parvo, unknown to their new owners - it would be awful if one of these crates passed on the virus. I like the "mother and doggy" space though...I think this might be a work in progress from the initial simple option of 2 tethering points and a water bowl near a low wall by our front canopy. Or perhaps we can make this something a little nicer for someone to sit with their dog, going forward... You're quite right of course - "guide dogs" was just one of those turns of phrase, like "road tax" or "hoovering" with a vax. We often have assistance dogs visit, and the occasional trainee police dog getting used to different, populated places
  7. Hi, we're after a little bit of advice from any outdoors-loving dog owners. Many of our customers have dogs, and are disappointed that we aren't able to allow dogs in-store. It's a shame that because we have in the past had instances of "presents" being left in a tent (sadly once again a small minority spoiling things for every other dog owner); plus the fact that we have an in-store cafe mean that we have to take the decision of "guide dogs only" We are aware that HSE rules apply to food PREPARATION areas and not seating however some customers are not comfortable with the fact that to exit the store the dog must go through the cafe area. It's a case of struggling to please everyone and of course we never want customers to leave their dog locked in a car especially in this hot summer. So we're looking at options...the simplest is of course to add a couple of tethering points and a watering station by the door which will be added imminently, but we're aware that people might like to spend a while in the store, and leaving a dog outside, even in an area covered by CCTV, is a security risk so we'd like to explore other possible options. We've seen lockable leads with a steel cable running through but unfortunately they all seem to need "setting" to the dog's collar size on first, fit, so not really suitable for using for a range of dogs. And of course other issues like nervous or socially "awkward" (for want of a better description) dogs who might not like being approached by other dogs make things difficult too. So we're looking for suggestions - has anyone seen and clever / useful dog "parking" setups that are secure and safe, and suitable for a range of dogs, so that we can offer an option rather than having to leave your dog at home
  8. Well, we'll make sure we watch out for anyone enquiring about e-bike batteries and chargers in our store, perhaps other Sheffield E-bike retailers could be made aware too..

  11. Hi Craigmason We stock the Duvalay range that includes universal mattress toppers and custom-made mattress toppers, and memory foam sleeping bags. The Duvalay range isn't the cheapest but it is very popular and we can see why it won Dragons Den support http://www.towsure.com/caravanning-motorhome-accessories/caravan-accessories-shop/sleeping-bags-bedding?cat=667
  12. Hi Yoremove I don't know the exact spects but the Highpoint Cairns looks like a standard dome tent with flexible poles Fibreglass flexible tent poles can be bought quite cheaply, from £18 for 3 poles depending on pole diameter, if you pop down to our store at Malin Bridge (opposite the tram terminus on Holme Lane), someone will be happy to have a look and suggest suitable diameter poles. They come in sections that can be cut to length so are pretty universal
  13. Hi Sazaboo You can look up car and caravan matches for free on our website on the following link http://www.towsure.com/caravan-car-outfit-matcher If you just choose "a standard caravan" you can see that you are going to struggle with most 'vans. It probably depends on what you want to pay. You CAN get caravans weighing less than 750kg but because they are less mass-market they tend to hold their price, so you could find it cheaper to change your car and get a lower priced caravan Another route might be to look at combi-camp folding campers, some of which are designed to be put up quickly and easily by one person and seem to be quite highly rated by people with similar needs to yours http://www.combi-camp.co.uk/
  14. Might be worth asking Travis Perkins, seems the company does roofing materials...might supply TP with some items?
  15. 2 places you might try The field next to the Three Stags Heads in Wardlow Mires. Something like £3 a head (may be more for a big tent, not sure) It's a field. With a single toilet. So don't expect fancy, that's why it's cheap. But it is dog friendly, with friendly old dog on site from the farm who loves to play "fetch" with new arrivals. And the pub is very dog friendly - often more lurchers in there than people - but beer only, don't ask for lager (no, really, Don't!) wine or anything other than ale. Pub only open certain nights though, it's a country village pub, the campsite is incidental...No need to book, it never gets over full, just roll up, pitch and pay at the farmhouse when you head out for your walk or to the pub I love it but it isn't everyone's cup of tea, down to earth is probably making it sound posher than it is. Good base for walks around Litton etc.. For breakfast, the Yondermann cafe directly across the road really sets you up for the day, whether you need energy for a long day walking, or a recovery breakfast after drinking Abbeydale Brewery's finest Black Lurcher (beware..it bites!!) You won't find the campsite listed in many directories, it is what it is. It doesn't even look like a campsite - it's this field here! Only really good if you want to be out and about all day, it's not really a campsite to sit around in https://goo.gl/maps/lfPV4 Or alternatively stretching an hour and a half to a couple of hours...but cheap, cheerful if a little basic Brow House Farm just outside Goathland, nr Whitby. Similarly it's a field with basic facilities in old farm buildings (it was actually Claud Greengrass' farm in Heartbeat so you can possibly guess the basic level of it) That is a proper campsite though, in North Yorkshire. Plenty to do and see, plenty of dog walks and numerous pubs in the village 5 minutes walk down the hill
  16. Hi SWJWM Unfortunately as you probably know our CCTV outside of our car park is limited so we haven't seen anything, but if you have anything you need to ask us, please do and we'll do our best to help Our lorry driver is glad that he was elsewhere at the time so it can't be his fault, but when we did have a minor nudge a while ago he did the decent thing and let insurance companies sort things out. Shame not everyone can do the same...accidents happen but when they do should be owned up to
  17. FREE Santa's Grotto, with a gift for all kids 8 and under Saturday 13th between 10am-3:30pm Plus Christmas Store / Kids Bikes / Turkey Lunches in our in-store cafe and much more.. Towsure Outdoor Leisure Superstore Holme Lane, Hillsborough, S6 4JR Large FREE Car Park - Opposite Malin Bridge Tram Terminus/Park & Ride (We did put a paid ad in but it hasn't been processed yet )
  18. Hi Kelly. We've not got a lot in rucksacks at the moment but we did manage to put together a couple of sleeping bags that have already been dropped off. I must say the response has been fantastic - I dropped off a crammed car full of shoeboxes last week, had 2 days off work and found our meeting room piled up with parcels again this morning, and a further 2 trolley loads arrived during the day, so I'll be dropping those off towards the end of the week. Well done and thank you to everyone bringing boxes and food parcels. Our collection point deadline is Wednesday 18th so there is still plenty of time
  19. We've had some boxes dropped off with us over the last couple of days that we'll take down to the Cathedral soon. Well done people - it's still early doors so I'm sure there are many more to come We'll try to slip a couple of mentions for this into our social media campaigns over the weekend too - there must be people out there who would love to participate but don't yet know about it
  20. Hi, we'd be happy to be provide a drop off point at our store on Holme Lane, Hillsborough. If this is of use, please let us know by PM and I'll send full details
  21. It's extremely sad that we are hearing incoming news reports of a young life lost on a camping trip, thought to be due to Carbon Monoxide poisoning. With this in mind we thought it worthwhile to bring this subject up - such incidents seem to be increasing and it would seem that people just don't know about the dangers. Google "Camper Dies" and you can see the common theme throughout the results. One of the main causes seems to be the humble barbecue and moving smouldering coals into the tent porch for warmth as night draws in. Barbecues are not simply a fire risk - when the flames die down and the risk of igniting a tent appears to have gone, NEVER be tempted to move it into the tent as a heat source. The charcoal is still burning and as it does, it consumes oxygen and emits carbon monoxide - odourless, invisible and in a confined space such as a tent, lethal. Even if there is a draft blowing through, ventilation panels are not adequate protection against deadly CO poisoning Similarly, gas appliances such as gas heaters or fridges rely on the burning of fuel, again giving off carbon monoxide. If you are cold at night, put on an extra layer, or use a sleeping bag liner. NEVER bring your barbecue into the tent. Please don't put your life at risk
  22. Hi, unfortunately this is not a tent we ever stocked so can't give any detailed help on this, now discontinued, model It does seem that the instructions weren't great anyway.... http://www.watkissonline.co.uk/wordpress/?p=1571 The key would seem to be to put the colour coded poles in the sleeves with the matching colour marking - and that, it would seem, is that. Sorry I couldn't be more help You could also try registering on UKCampsite and seeing if this poster managed to solve their issue http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=3&TopicID=228806&PagePosition=1
  23. Yes, it looks a good one! http://www.forallevents.co.uk/walk-for-all/events/peak-district/ You don't HAVE to do the 25 miler - There's a 5 miler and a 14 miler, so a challenge for everybody. And there are similar ones in the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District - our webmaster is doing all 3 to raise money for Rain Rescue
  24. We've still got plenty of sledges in stock, starting at £3.95 for the little "bum skids". Other types available including the round ones and the "normal" shaped ones - various designs. Plenty of snow shovels too.
