Yes, I remember him. It would have been the 8" mill which along with the 10" mill which was replaced by the Double Duo in the sixties. That was in the Arnold Palmer days.

Hi Circloy I am sure that I must know you with a 'quality' name like that. We rolled tonnes of it in the sheet mill, along with Bulloy, armour plate. Unfortunately Lol B died last year. I still see TW and Frank and many others that are still with us at the directors and senior managers get together every November I am Ron Fletcher, but who are you?

Welcome to the fold 11plus. I would have been in the Steel Office at that time. When I started in 1951 the Wages Dept was situated next to Hacksaw dept but moved later to an office adjacent to No.1 gate. They were good times. I remember Ron Smith very well. Joan Chippendale worked in Wages but it would be well before your time .

How did you get on with your photography S. I remember that I tried to cultivate an interest.

I'm stumped as to who you are and I normally have a good memory for those years. I remember the deaf girl too but can't remember her name either. She was a brilliant lip reader though. Are you Stephen Eaton? Joined the Police Force, pools winner?????

What a character she was if I remember the right person. She worked in the Steel Warehouse at SBN on Newhall Road for many years.

Forgot to mention that Phil K sadly, also died a few years ago.

I remember Paul Deakin very well and also Ted Harrop. Unfortunately Ted died 3 or 4 years ago.

I started at SBN in 1951 and retired from Sanderson Kayser 1995. I started in the Steel Office directly opposite the Engineers.

If we are talking about model planes that fly then it is definitely HOBBIES in St Pauls Parade.

It certainly did Robbiet and gang fights in the late 40's.

Does anyone remember the area of land situated between Shirland Lane and Staniforth Road alongside the canal, that was known as the Brick Field. It was in later years used by BRS ( British Road Services). During the war years a barrage balloon was sited there.

Hi Frenchie Did he start at Kayser Ellison or Sanderson Bros and Newbould? It is not a name that I am familiar with.

Hi Tedmunks Walter Dobson and George Capps I remember well but the other two don't ring any bells. I havn't a clue what happened to the Heliocentric Gear but I know the design which operated by plungers made from EN37 spec steel. I was involved in all aspects of production in the Steel Dept., so remember it well.

That link is absolutely fantastic and something that I was completely unaware of. I remember the name Joe Crookes from the mills very well.

Hi David The Bill Calton that I knew was a big tall strapping lad who worked on the 5ton hammer in the forge. I have no knowlege of 'The Stalingrad Sword' so presume it was before my time ie., before 1951.

Hi Tedmunks I am neither of the 3 you mention but I knew Harry, brother of Fred who worked in Steel Dept with myself. My father in law was Harold Brookes which you will have known. I used to do a lot of photography with Fred Hague, the foreman in Gear Dept. I laso knew Cyril Jackson, your manager. Ron Fletcher
