  1. Wondered how long it would take for someone to be negative. "cleaned daily" is not the same as putting in your heart and soul.
  2. Thanks jaffa, I think I''l get a copy then....
  3. Hi, I found out that my great uncle was sent home from WW1 (Italy) due to serious illness after almost 4 years service. He was in Winter St hospital but his discharge date is 9 days before his death date. I'm trying to find out where he was in those few days between discharge and him passing away. If I order a death certificate, would it say where he died exactly, i.e. his home address or just say"Sheffield"? It's important to me to know that he wasn't sent back to the front and spent time with his family at least - he was the same age as my son, just a boy..... Thanks Duckegg
  4. I have seen that co-op guy being dropped off by a 4x4 in the morning. I also saw a kind pensioner hand him a cereal bar. He just grunted and stuffed it in his pocket. Not that hungry then.
  5. I heard that the agreement to be able to use weekly passes on both Stagecoach and First (52 and 120) is stopping too? Friend saw a poster somewhere but I can't see anything or on internet.... Duckegg
  6. Hi has anyone seen a 52 on Crooked today please? SY travel website keeps crashing .... ---------- Post added 01-03-2018 at 07:09 ---------- Crookes! Damn phone
  7. Hi-Just bumping this up as didn't get any replies and upstairs tap now is affected too. Do I need someone to look at it or is it an easy thing please? Thank you
  8. Hi We have a Baxi combi. Just recently the hot water tap in the kitchen doesn't fire up the boiler (occasionally it does). The central heating works fine and upstairs tap still gets hot. The water flow from the kitchen tap seems ok, not slow or anything. Hopefully it's something simple? Thanks Duckegg
  9. Hi Cloudsailors I just wanted to say what an honest and brave post yours is. It’s so very well written and made me stop and think. I don’t think your post is negative at all - it’s truthful and says a lot about the person you are. Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and all the very best for 2018! Duckegg
  10. Well, I finally decided on Rich Tone - Yamaha Pacifica. Has good reviews, good price and matches my living room rug..... Rich Tone were very helpful. Thanks everyone
  11. That's a relief! It's nice not to have to wait in the cold for one operator or another on the same route
  12. Thanks Ghozer - the idea was on the 52 and 120 there was a special agreement where you could use your pass (for £13) on both company's services. Since the new machines are in use, if there's no paper counterpart, you can't prove to the drivers that the card is valid if it doesn't work on the machine. At the moment stagecoach still issue paper receipts but First don't. The travelmaster one is much more expensive, especially if you only use the 52/52a
  13. Please can somebody (Andy C?) clarify how the new smartcards work on the routes where you can use both bus companies with one pass like the 52 and 52a? My Stagecoach smartcard doesn't work on the posh new machines on First despite wasting 50p on a new one in case they had upgraded them. I'm constantly asked by the First drivers to try out the card but it NEVER works. I normally present the paper counterpart issued by Stagecoach as proof of purchase. So, what happens if stagecoach phase out the paper counterpart as I've heard? If I buy a First smartcard instead, apparently they don't work on Stagecoach either and there's no paper counterpart so how will that work? Does this all mean that the option of using both services on the special routes is stopping? So confused :{ Cheers Duckegg
  14. Hi Thanks for all your replies. Think it will have to be electric though - he won't budge on this. I'm hoping for something under 200 - think he will manage weight, neck etc - he's 20
  15. Hi All the threads on this are old so I thought I'd ask for recommendations. My son has decided to learn to play guitar, he loves music but is also an electronics geek so the idea of building amps, wiring etc is also a keen interest. I see there are 3 guitar shops in Sheffield but I'm a bit daunted to go along as I know nothing whatsoever about music, guitars etc and I'm worried they will blind me with science like carphone warehouse! Just need an electric guitar for a beginner, all set up, but decent quality and nice looking as it will probably end up in my living room ..... Thanks Duckegg
  16. Hi, I have a Hoover Spirit upright vacuum cleaner which seems to have some kind of fault. It is picking up stuff ok but the dust doesn't accumulate in the base of the cylinder as it should as it's all sucked up to the filter itself and accumulates on the mesh. I have to clean the filter every couple of cleans - messy job. It should remain in the cylinder itself until it's emptied but the cylinder is nearly always empty apart from a few bits of fluff; all the grotty fluff is stuck around the filter. Any help would be appreciated. Duckegg
  17. Well there were some "public" in there, contrary to reports - i.e me and a few others. Everyone was quite calm and unfazed by this tortured soul's sudden appearance and more worried they'd lost their place in the queue....
  18. Hi Gosh Thanks for your offer. However I don't think it's worth fixing! The fan has already gone and one is currently connected with a USB! The screen has a crack, as does the case - I've had it a long time; about 7 years so it's probably time to say goodbye to it. I was just looking for a similar laptop. ps - you already successfully fixed the keyboard for me a few years ago Duckegg
  19. Hi I have an ancient sony viao that won't charge any more. I wish I had invested in a new battery instead of a new "original" charger from ebay that damaged the little hole where it plugs in (not techie - don't know name!). Attempts by someone to replace the little hole thing have failed. It's dead To be fair the Sony was falling to bits but was still usable. It was probably time to invest in a new one but the Viao was good quality, all white and a solid build; it pains me to chuck it out.... I'm afraid I became quite attached to it. Please can someone recommend a similar laptop with a proper keyboard(not flat) that I can type on, that doesn't cost the earth? I don't want a black plasticky thing. Regards Duckegg
  20. Thank you onewheeldave. As one of the "ineffective" admin staff I'm faced with a heap of red tape and crap systems but still try to get the best care for patients. Many patients don't bother to turn up, wasting valuable clinic slots for very ill people. A lot of these insist on translators for a variety of obscure languages and STILL don't turn up; payment still has to be made to the translator and the clinic slot is wasted time and money. There is a huge demand for Medicars and ambulances to bring people to appointments etc. People are taking the michael. Whilst there are many genuine cases, what happened to family and friends? Don't get me started.
  21. Well that's 3 at least, you Everdearest, me AND the fireman, all looking for something we can't find. I, for one, wouldn't dare walk into a bar on my own or strike up conversation with a stranger. I've no desire to be lumped in with those 50 something ladies who go out "on the pull", wear clothes that are too tight for them and make a nuisance of themselves on Ecclesall Road. On the other hand, Womens Institute meets, allotment raves and ballroom dancing aren't for me! I don't think I would enjoy a night out with a load of disco divas nor a bunch of metal detecting anorak wearing fell walkers. It's not about age, it's about affinity, empathy and not being stereotyped. Realistically, I would rather spend time with someone roughly in my age group than a bunch of 25 year olds even if we shared a love of herbaceous borders. Oh, and don't mention internet dating - I looked on there in 2014. In January 2017, I looked again - same people!! There must be a lot of lonely people out there!
  22. Well Derbytup, I guess I don't get it. You say basically that one shouldn't be defined by one's age. But you also said that you agree with your friend the fit fireman who says most women in their 50's enjoy knitting, cosying up by the fire and watching Eastenders? I am 55, fit as a butcher's dog, do not like Michael Buble, I will never join a lunch club, leave my roots au naturel or wear those comfy shoes with a button on the side. So what's your fit fireman friend up to this weekend?
  23. He's "different" because apparently for him all females over 50 have let themselves go, wear elasticated trousers, are not attractive, do not like sex and drink dodgy wine. His "problem" is that, in his words, he is like Peter Pan and has therefore never grown up.
