  1. One store that I know always asks everyone for id. The reason given was 'the age discrimination laws, we are not allowed to discriminate on age so we must by law ask for proof of age'. I left the items on the counter, walked out of the shop and went to the shop round the corner where I was served with no request for id or proof of age. By the way, I am well over the age of 21 (well go on then 55) and bald, but I do look young for my age (about 54).
  2. He would certainly fill most of the gap at the back! Better order more pies tho!
  3. I signed up for the offer from BT where you pay for 12 month rental in one go, up front, to get a cheaper rate, arranged payment by direct debit. A week later, BT sent a letter to say that bank had refused payment. Rang bank, they said that money had been requested by BT and sent to BT who had refused to accept it and the money was put back into my account. Rang BT, they claimed that their records just showed that there was no payment even thought I had dates and times of transactions from bank. I then arranged to pay by credit card over phone. This was done and authorised by CC company. All seems ok until I checked balance on credit card two days later, which did not show any payment to BT. Rang CC and they said that there was an authorised payment to BT which was waiting to be collected by BT. The credit card company said that BT had to request the money for the authorised payment. They also said that if BT did not request this within a certain time limit then the authorisation would lapse. After the time limit, I checked tha CC balance again and no sign of any payment to BT. I rang CC company to be told that BT had indeed requested the payment and it had been sent to BT but then BT refused to accept the money and sent it back. The CC company provided detailed times for the transactions. When I rang BT to ask what was going on, some numpty there said that the CC company had rejected the request for payment. I asked to speak to a manager, explained everything that had happened and requested an explanation. I would have got more sense talking to the goldfish. I am now happily with Virgin.
  4. If a motorway is shut, the signs say 'closed'. Congestion for hours in normally a police incident or accident and is signed as such. Rush hour tail backs are signed as congestion.
  5. How's about those big signs on the M1, kindly informing you as you pass J35A that there is congestion on the M60. I would rather know about the M1, by the time I get anywhere near the M60, if I was going that way, any congestion will have gone.
  6. So GM gets sacked but that still leaves the same problem for whoever you decide should replace him - the incompetent players(?). What are you going to do about them? :loopy:
  7. There have been floods in Catcliffe for years and years. There is a copy of an old photograph, of floods, in Morrisons, on the wall near the checkouts.
  8. Not Hillsbrough area myself, but had loft and cavity wall insulation done by eaga/council last September/October. No charge, completely free and I am not on any benefits etc. Some of the energy insulation offers / grants require that you are on certain benefits to qualify and even then you may have to pay something towards costs. Very pleased with eaga's work and certainly felt benefit. Last gas bill well down on last year for same period and definitely much colder than last year. Try aardvark's links.
  9. Thanks Andy. Note to self, read all the posts!
  10. That is very good discount on my figures, that do not include any 'rail card'. Which rail card gives this discount Andy? Certainly looks like a good investment.

  12. Doing over 30K motorway miles a year, I find this happens a lot. Another thing I have found is being in the inside lane and slowly catching a car, I look in the mirror and see car catching up in the middle lane and judge it should pass me before I need to pull out to overtake the car I am catching. So, wait in my lane for car in middle lane to pass and then I can safely pull out behind them. So far ok, but the overtaking car than slows down just alongside my front wing and is now matching my speed. Now have to disengage CC to slow down and low and behold so does the car off my front wing. What is it with these 'people', why do they do this?
  13. They have the same rights as you or I to enter private property, i.e. none at all.
  14. Thanks for this post, I had thought it was the car radio and was about to start taking it apart to find the fault! Reception of Radio Sheffield has never been very good in and around Sheffield but, surprisingly, is good the far side of Manchester on M62 to Liverpool.
  15. Very interesting these posts and especially the diagram from Highway Code. However, have you seen the roundabout on Handsworth Road below the Parkway driving down the hill with ASDA on your left? If you wish to go straight on at this roundabout to Darnall then you have to be in the right hand lane. The left hand lane is for turning left only. This is (and has been for some time) well marked and signed but there have been quite a few near misses, as the road markings direct drivers to move over to the left beneath the bridge for travelling straight on.
