Thank you for the link to the old maps it was just what I wanted. -
I was born in Carbrook (Weedon Street) in the 50's I have very few memories of it but my interest as been fueled reading the entries on this site. I would like to get to see some old maps of the streets at this time as I can not remember the street names, or how they conected, except Carbrook st,Weedon St,Barking st and Dunlop st. If anyone could tell me where to find the information I would be gratefull.

I learnt to swim at upperthorpe baths. Our dad taught us although he could'nt swin a stroke! used to take us every week to the British steel swimming club I think on Monday nights. This was in the 50's. I can remember once being in a diving competion against Jill (or gill) Slaterly who was I believe a champion. I won a blue glass and silver (coloured) sugar bowl my mother was very proud of this! I remember our treat was iced gem biscuit out of the machine. For years when ever I saw iced gems I was transported back to the foyer of the baths always with wet hair on a cold night.

reading the post on here as made me realise I have very few memories of my early life in carbrook. My name was Lynn Rodgers I was born in august 1953 and firstly lived in Barking st, where I started at carbrook c of e school. We moved to 156 Weedon st but I can't remember when but before I move up to Parkhouse. I had two brothers John born in 1955 and Jimmy born in 1956.I can't remember peoples names except Joan swain who lived on weedon st, Marie Spooner who lived at the top of Weedon st next to commercial pub (her dad drove a coach I think), and Lynda Fox who I sat next to on my first day at school.I was very friendly with Bridget Frith who lived in the Tinsley Hotel. The name I have read on here that is vaguely familiar is Billy Otter and I think the name Pickersgill. These could have been linked to my brothers.I went to the Sat matinee at the Pavilion regularly, buying bruised apples on the way cheeper than spice. was anyone else encouraged to go to the peasus theatre club on Saturday mornings by Mr Cornwaithe?

Hi Joan! this is Lynn Rodgers that was. My partner joined the forum I was drifting through it and saw your post, the years rushed backward. My memory of Carbrook is poor but you reminded me of thing long forgotten. When I learn how to use this may be we can catch up?
