  1. Had the same problems at my sons school, the numerous letters sent out from school asking parents to park appropriatley - all to no avail. They still carried on doing it and it seemed to be the same people day in day out.

The school eventually got the local community police involved who then issued the warnings to the repeat offenders, but hey, guess what - they still did it - till the same community police came from behind the gates a few days later and gave them a fine. The school managed to get a good presence from the police on a ad hoc basis through the weeks and still do. They appear when you least expect them so it solved the problem.

The message got across- albeit "don't park there 'cos you'll be done" rather than "i'll not park there 'cos it's illegal and not safe for the children going to school"

Don't know if other areas could have the same presence put in pleace, but may be worth a chat with the schools having the problems.

  2. Hi - I've worked for a couple of companies in the past doing this kind of work, and sometimes have been staggered at the amount of work that came in. Some cleaning companies have massive client lists and it can be a very lucrative buisness to be in, which was the main reason I left the companies and set up on my own self employed.

The south side of the city is where the majority of work is but the north side has a large amount of people having help with their homes. I concentrated on the area around where I live (S35) and have 15 regular customers who I help around the home. Most of the families have busy working lives and have help in the house so that when they have free time they don't have to worry about cleaning the house, doing the ironing, etc etc. A couple are elderley and value immensley their houses being nice and clean and the odd shopping fetched for them.

It's not my job of choice but wierdly I get great satisfaction from doing it :D and it supplements the other clerical work I do.:)

  3. We sell a rich moisturising cream containing a natural ingredient –DHA – which does all the melanin magic to make you go the shade you would if we ever got enough sun. One application will give a light, natural colour change for up to a week. Daily applications for a few days give a much deeper colour. It's been tried on all skin types and shades and found it gives a realistic tan on everyone.

Ingredients: water (aqua); shea butter (butyrospermum parkii); apricot kernel oil (prunus armeniaca), vegetable glycerine (glycerine), emulsifying wax, dihydroxyacetone, vitamin E (tocopheryl vitamin E).

Does this work with your natural melanin, sort of bringing it to the surface and have no actual fake tanning colour in it ?

  4. Where can you buy these?? Iv seen them in Clinton cards but they charge you to activate??

    Thanks

I used to use a Virgin prepaid card for my daughter, but the charges added up quite quickly. You can either pay a monthly fee - around £4.95 or pay a % charge each time a purchase is made - thinks its about 3% on top of any purchase cost.

You can pay money onto them at post offices or transfer via a bank account for free but can take up to 5 days to be available to spend on the pre-paid card. Also you can top up via paypoint which is instant, this incurrs a charge at around 3% taken off the top up value.

O2 do a good one that doesn't charge for purchases but you have to be an O2 mobile customer.

Most of the prepaid cards have fees, you can compare them if you google "compare prepaid cards"

After paying out quite a few charges etc on the pre-paid card my daughter got a bank account with a debit card.

  5. Hi

Feeling a little white at the moment and wondered if anyone could give their experiences with fake tans to use at home.

Tried a few in the past, St. Tropez looks a bit orange on my skin, xen tan goes too dark. Tried the mosturiser ones with tan in but always get streaks.

I'm very fair skin and at the moment very milky white. I don't want to have anything too dark just something to add a bit of colour.

  6. They have said if i write to them about my bank charge they will deduct it from my next bill but if i get charged another £25 from my bank due to their fault i CANNOT afford to pay the £50 and dont see why i should have to as its their fault.[/quote]

I had a similar problem with BT, although it was my fault I didn't have enough funds in the bank to cover the direct debit when due. I incurred a bank charge for the direct debit not being honoured, which I rightly accepted. I paid BT by debit card the day after and they said they would cancel the direct debit recall which would have been due 7 days later.

They didn't cancel the re-call and applied to the bank again, as I wasn't expecting the direct debit to be taken it wasn't honoured again (I use one account for direct debits and another for everything else).

I expected a charge again, but no charge was made, when I questioned this with my bank they said that a failed recall is not charged a fee as the initial failed direct debit had been charged.

Don't know if this is the same with all banks though.

  7. Jesssops do a brilliant job when they're not rushed off their feet with loads going into labour at the same time.

If I hadn't have stood my ground with them and insisted on staying at the hospital, even though they wanted to send me home,my son would have been born on the way back home.

I was in tremendous pain and knew he was gonna come before I would get home, being a second child he didn't want to hang around ! - he was born 30 minutes after being told I could go home.

The first midwife - who was a trainee - was not on the ball and thankfully an "old school" midwife came after 20 minutes and saved the day!!

Did the ante-natal classes and the birth plan - but never had chance to even think about putting them into practise !!:D

  8. and that's not true for everyone, it used to be a lovely place, I lived there for 27 years and I'm no tramp, I don't do drugs and I have never stolen a thing in my life.

And as for the person that wrote - (which looks like it's been removed)

    How dare you

  9. Scumbags mate, Parson Cross used to be alright, majority of people taking pride in their homes and gardens. Now what's left is pretty sad, especially the shops on Buchanan.

A burgalry of any kind in any area is horrible but especially so in this case.

There's good and bad on every estate. Parson Cross covers a much larger area than the Buchannan part.

It's the minority not the majority of people that give the area a bad name, and what is pretty sad is that the people that do care about the area are never heard all we hear about is the bad stuff.

  10. I haven't got one but a forum I go on a lot of people have received them.

Hmmmm - seems to have been some sent out in December as well. Some, but not all, who received the letter have had an additional payment and then the remaining payments for the tax year reduced to cover the additional payment.

HMRC and the tax credit system never seems to amaze me

  11. Just had a letter from HMRC about my Tax Credits saying -

"Between now and March 2011 you may receive a payment of tax credits you were not expecting. It will not be your normal amount and could be paid on a different day. The extra payment is a result of changes we needed to make to our system in preparation for next year.

This is nothing to worry about and you will not be asked to pay it back.

It will mean the remainder of your normal payments until April 2011 will be slightly lower to take this payment into account. The total amount of tax credits you are entitled to has not changed and all the other tax credit payments that you receive from us will be paid on your normal date.

There is no need to contact us or reply to this letter"

Have HMRC made a mess of the system again ?:loopy:

    Anyone else received this ?

It would be nice of them to tell us if they are reducing the remaining payments and by how much. I don't receive a lot from them but it is part of my weekly spending budget.

  12. It's funny as well that after your warranty on the boxes runs out, something goes wrong, they then want £60 just in call out chargers for an engineer to call.

Some time ago we had to replace the sky box after 18 months, bypassed Sky and got a local company to supply one at a lot less.

He said that Sky boxes don't normally last beyond a year and we had done well for it to last 18 months!!

The replacement box ( a pace brand i think) was replaced after 7 years or so with the new Sky Plus box - but still worked to the day it was took out.

    Makes you wonder

(how do I use that quote box?????)

  14. Got rid of Sky for BT Vision after endless problems with Sky Broadband.

I find it a lot better - can watch through On Demand when you want instead of being restricted by Skys listing availablility and it has replay for if you missed something on TV. Kids is great as they do "A hour with" on the kids channels.

Although a full hour of Charlie & Lola can sometimes get annoying though.

  15. Hi everyone.

I'm new to the forum - been a watcher for a while, but thought I'd register to try and seek some advice from you.

I am looking to buy a Cross Trainer, as getting to the gym is becoming a chore.

I've been looking around, find one then find a review on the one chosen that just changes my mind again. I'd prefer one that is a Cross Trainer and Bike built in - so when it gets too much can sit down and just use as bike for lower body.:D

Anybody have one that they could recommend, looking to spend around £200 and need quite a sturdy one with a larger user weight capacity as hoping to get the OH on it as well !

    Thanks
