  1. I can't be doing with trolls - this is a genuine warning that may save a dog or little kid. I was not aware that the 'status' of the pond had changed - my dog has had a sneaky sip before with no ill effects, he is a dog after all and I would rather him have a strong immune system then sheltering him from seemingly innocent pond water, after all there are duck in the pond, right? I usually carry water with me on this occasion he had a sneaky drink while I was feeding the ducks some leftover bread. I feel guilty enough as it is for taking my eye off the ball, so to speak for a second and causing him so much misery. If I can spare someone else the experience, shoot me, next time it could be a toddler!!
  2. Just a word of warning to fellow dog walkers or folks with young kids. My dog drunk out of the pond in Hillsborough and three hours later was violently sick 25+ times. He had to go to the vets as an emergency to have anti sickness injections after retching continually. My friend has said there are warning signs regarding poisonous algae, but I have not noticed them despite walkling him in the park twice a day. If there is a problem with the lake, the signs should be more prominent, so I wanted to warn people in case. He seems better now but has been a stressful and expensive experience.
  3. I hope cavegirl is vomiting her guts up at your sleazy and foul insinuation, You should get off this forum Now nasty little man and ring up a gas engineer
  4. No, not hate just pity.... Ah bless you if this really is a serious post, stop kidding yourself you are a caring person cos its ridiculous. You are being judgemental " I can see you are a previous tenant, so emotional blah blah blah" Never once got emotional with my powerlord, sorry landlord. When the time was right told him where to stick his dump up his ***tpipe, where it clearly belonged. Oh yes we are all on medication here obviously !!!??? Good thing you rent out 'homes' to eke out a living, as with your 'modern' views personable qualities and talents in getting out the yellow pages and working out G and a for gas engineer, you would go down a storm in a traditional workplace.
  5. Just happened on this post and had to respond!!! Really hope it is prank post!! Absolutely appalling way to treat another human being and landlords like you epitomise the greed and lack of respect prevalent in society. You clearly are getting some sort of power kick from having the upper hand and the boiler getting sorted at your behest. When your affluent contacts have finished their holiday and unpacked their suitcase, put their pics on facebook then and only then might you give your gas buddy cronie the go ahead to sort out your tenant. So your tenant is 'doing your head in'? Ah you must be really suffering earning money and getting a bit of grief. (look at the job description) I had a landlord like you - there was a gap in the window an inch wide. My landlords response " Ah but its nice to have a bit of fresh air". Maybe you hold the same opinion, after all fresh air gets rid of the smell of tenants (who all stink obviously) I had the last laugh, as was saving for a deposit for a house and told him where to stick his crummy 'residence' when my house offer got accepted. Others are not so lucky, and clearly having no other options, get upset, understandably when you act with such contempt. Take the 'lord' out of landlord, cos a gent you ain't. Just another poorly equipped 'business' man who has no sense of legal or moral responsibility. Must be folk all across Sheffield, who have no water or heating at the moment, as I really did not realise there was only one gas engineer in Sheffield. Silly me! Read your original post back - and then become aware of what a miserly, power freak you come across, and then hopefully take the shame!
  6. Thanks again! Such good advice, and all of it combined is making a difference in such a short time. Been picking up tips from you all and others, and he is more settled and starting to demonstrate his intelligence rather than acting spoilt! Thanks!
  7. Thanks again guys, I have been feeding him kibble and tinned tripe food - anything else gives him an upset stomach.. I have said exactly the same thing to my husband about being with him all the time when he home from sea - he needs to be left a lot more to amuse himself. Great suggestions and I will definitely keep trying. I will go out and get a kong tomorrow as it is may day off. I am going to take him out with my sisters dog for a really long walk too! Thanks again
  8. Thank you all so much for your great advice I have brainstormed with my Son and Husband and we started this morning - I took him for a long walk (just got back now 7.30 and freezing!) He looks a lot more tired now. He gets walked everyday in the park for about an hour if I am home. When my husband at home two or three walks, as when he is back from sea he has the whole week off. I think you are all right, more routine, a dog walker or dog creche when he is at sea and dog training. I am starting tonight at Wadsley Bridge, if there is a space available. Does anyone have any recommendations for dog care in S6, as I only work part time it would have to be reasonable, It would only be needed 6 days a month, term time only? Thanks again will let you know how we are getting on
  9. Hi all, Just a bit of background so y'all get the picture. Me and my hubby got our boxer at nine weeks. He is now 11 months and I am struggling with him. It all came to a head this weekend and I got very upset and advertised him to be rehomed. I got a response within an hour and agreed to meet the people. The reality of it hit home and I realised how much I love him and could not part with him - however clearly I am not coping and some support and advice is needed to keep him in our family. I only work part time - the difficulty is my husband is way for work one whole week and then home one week. Effectively meaning my dog is crated 3 days a week every other week. His behaviours are wrecking the room - (crate him now) but he has started soiling the crate even though my sister checks in on him halfway through the day. He has started messing, peeing and getting very distressed. I am thinking about dog walkers S6 area Hillsborough, dog training hillsborough Other people have suggested getting a radio, another dog?!! Has any one got any advice on training, diet, exercise etc I am desperate to keep him. I may be getting made redundant soon so may take a few months out to train him, or is it too late at 11 months? He is a male boxer, a bit spoilt? Thanks in advance from a desperate forumer
  10. Where was this, sounds a bit like Jaywick. I too am from Essex (Sarfend) and North East Essex to me is the area around Manningtree and Dedham, which is definitely a nice area. I moved away in the 70s but was back in the area for a visit in 2011, and it was still nice. Well lectrolove - we lived in Harwich, which although only a few miles from Manningtree and Dedham really got very bad. My Mum still lives in Clacton which although again a few miles from Jaywick (total ghetto) is actually classed as quite upmarket but in my opinion as bad as Jaywick and still under the same council as Harwich and Manningtree.. So well guessed!! They have all now got the same social problems due to high unemployment but very expensive living costs and a very corrupt council. As its coastal I guess a lot of people think that it is okay - for a visit - I defy almost anyone unlocal to live there! It very much a local village for local people. There was a bad problem of placing sex offenders and drug addicts as technically was a small population and easier to monitor. Job prospects very poor unless you want to wipe bums in one of the several care homes on a zero hour contract with no holiday or sick pay. As a teacher I used to have to do a 35 mile round trip to Colchester. Until my hours got cut making me virtually redundant. No regrets - I think Sheffielders have to ask why so many people not born here choose to make it their home the grass is not always greener! I was brought up near Southend and it is much better than North East Essex and have many happy memories as a child. Not been for years though...
  11. If its anything like i remember as a kid up to maybe my late teens, early twenties I'd trade Sheffield for north east Essex any day of the week and twice on Sundays. I'd move tomorrow if I could (although I do remember a fair bit of dog **** though !) Well tinfoilhat I guess you must have some pleasant nostalgic memories of the place which is great because if you went back there now you might get a nasty surprise! Prior to leaving this North East Essex ' paradise' 1 in 4 shops was boarded up and graffiti covered. Six pubs has shut down, 2 of which were involved in a 'fire' read arson. One of the remaining pubs had squatters living in it growing copious amounts of weed , which got busted. We had gangs of boy racers driving around mounting the pavements (one poor kid tragically died) My Mum and three of her neighbours got their front doors blown out with an air rifle. The local swimming pool got closed down by the health inspectors due to dangerous bacteria. My friend got mauled by a dangerous dog which was later destroyed. The people I know that bothered to work did two or three jobs to get by due to the high cost of living. Band A council tax was £1230.00 in 2010 water rates £38.00 a month and everything else just as expensive. I never felt safe living there even though ironically it was classed as a nice place to live. Oh and they actively disliked outsiders or anyone different from them. There was and still is zero diversity. Probably due to the fact that if outsiders did move there they soon were made to feel so unwelcome they moved away.... I would rather be a southerner in Sheffield than a southerner living amongst bigots, racists, chavs and backstabbers down south!
  12. I think you can be happy anywhere if you throw yourself into the community and look at the positives? My Sister moved here first and I missed her a great deal. I often came up to visit her and everytime I went back to Essex, I just wanted to be back in Sheffield. It felt like home to me and still does. What other city has something for everyone, while still remaining fairly safe very friendly? Yes there are negatives but crime is national. It is easy to get caught up in forum posts and local rag headlines, and many of the reports are truly bad. But sadly it is the same all over the country. The housing is competitive, the travel/tram links excellent too as are all these facilities; Excellent sports centres and facilities/ 2 football stadiums Theatres, cinemas and comedy venues A range of night life/ clubs for all ages Free music festivals and community festivals Huge choice of restaurants, cafes and pubs Peak district and some lovely pubs Cultural events Good schools Lovely people Places of worship for every faith climbing and ice skating Dog track and casino Shopping and markets Clubs and societies for every interest imaginable Education facilities Good health facilities and alternative therapies Easy access and links to other cities and towns I could go on but you get the picture... Thats why I moved here. I had none of this in Essex! I miss the ski village though, used to go bowling a lot there...
  13. I have to add my tuppence in as a southerner who has lived here for nearly two years. I love Sheffield, have zero regrets moving here and am very happy and fulfilled here. As are my Husband and Son. I get asked all the time why I chose to live here and 'I must be mad moving from East Anglia (North East Essex to be precise) to Sheffield. I have met amazing warm friendly people and have an amazing circle of friends who are fun, totally there for me and do not play keeping up with the Jones's, which is primarily a game played mainly down south so see who can accrue the most material possessions! Where I lived down south, the schools were full of vile bullies (my son is soo happy at his school here) The insular nature of the East Anglians was just peculiar... I was classed as an outsider there because originally I am from Greater London!!?? Everywhere was filthy and the leisure facilities were overpriced and extremely low quality and value. So take it from me as someone who has lived in other places, be grateful for what is here, if you do not like it complain to the council. I have made a complaint on fixmystreet regarding the dog filth though as it has got pretty bad! Let them know and do something about it! The rubbish problem is down to cuts IMO as I have noticed a change in the two years I have lived here. Its not littering as the stuff in the gutters in clearly recycling that has been dropped/left for example frozen pizza containers and dog food tins etc. Also my hours were cut in Essex, and I have a great job now that I love so I do not think the cuts are as bad here with it being a city. Final note I love the Sheffield humour - people tend to say what they like to your face. Where I lived before the majority tended to be behind your back. Much rather be told how it is actually! I would never go back and will take the few irritations of litter and traffic any day!
  14. My garden got broken into and bike nicked about three weeks ago... I did not report it as it was an old bike and not worth a lot. Just the horrible fact that someone had been prowling in my garden when we were all asleep. Putting a gate on the alleyway now, case they come back...
