  1. Good seamstresses are like gold dust. I am actually a couturier but do have quiet periods so maybe we could be of use to each other? Contact me if you're interested. Gill
  2. I'd charge £30 to shorten them & I'm in Norton Lees, so nice & close.
  3. Its all go for the sewing lessons on 29th January, an informal, small sewing group to teach you any aspect of sewing you want to learn.
  4. The dates sound good to me. Where would you recommend getting the boning etc from, ie would we be able to get them within a week. Would like to know cost as this will determine whether I can commit.
  5. I am a dressmaker based in Totley & have successfully converted many garments. I'm not cheap but I am good. Bring your dress to me for a consultation. Details at gilliankay.co.uk
  6. Sophie - you're always so darn busy! If you'd like to make an evening sewing lesson or even a Sunday I'd be willing to talk. I do a sewing class for 2 ladies in Stannington & it works really well. I am able to guide them to the next stage & they tell me they're learning loads even though they've been to plenty of sewing classes in the past.
  7. A new Year, a new idea for sewing lessons. Come to my home in Norton Lees & learn whatever aspect of sewing suits you. I want to keep the sessions to a small group of 3 so that everyone gets individual attention. £30 for 4 hours, 10.30 - 2.30 and all the tea or coffee & biscuits you can manage! First session 29th January, then hopefully the last saturday of each month.
  8. Doing the sewing drop in from my home. First one 29th January. Only going to take 3 people at a time to keep the tutoring personal.
  9. Honest Hillsborough is the best place Sheffield has but keep going their stock changes regularly. Try shopping for fabric on the internet, its surprisingly good. I have received samples promptly & yardage delivery quickly.
  10. Did a prep for the class on Nov 19th, hopefully Sue learned something. Please call if you have questions - 0777 9928 722 - Gill
  11. No problem with the 3 hour sessions. As I have some experience with sewing classes I would say its probably a better session because people getting settled, started etc can take up to 20 mins. Have you thought of doing it over 2 x 5 hour sessions, less cost for room hire? Love you to get it started asap because I'd love a waist cincher to wear at christmas!
  12. A few people have asked the question of -what pattern? Any garment you wish or even a project which you started previously which didn't work out - lets get it finished!
  13. Hi there, I'm finally up & running for a newly developed Garment Creating Masterclass. Its on the 19th November at the new venue, The Vault, 442, Abbeydale Road, Sheffield S7 1FR (the old HSBC bank at the Broadfield traffic lights) Contact me for details of a class designed for experienced sewers who need pattern & fitting help. There's a bit of pre preperation plus purchase of a pattern & fabric. £40 for the day. If the pre prep is beyond your capabilities we could arrange a meet up for us to do it together for a charge of £15. 14. As a dressmaker who also offers sewing classes I am curious about your corset making classes. I have some experience with corsetry but would love to learn the precise techniques involved so please put me on your mailing list. May I suggest to the friend of Medusa and anyone else that a wheely suitcase is the ideal transport for a sewing machine, even if you have a car there is always some walking distance!
