  1. I agree also with what getting_fit has said. The trouble is that the NHS does seem a little too willing to dish out drugs. I have been on a few different tablets for reasons I won't go into and they were pretty easy to get to be honest. I'm not sure that it's the best way to go with esteem etc cause they either work or don't and in my experience they really don't!
  2. I strongly disagree with smoking when pregnant. A habit is a habit but when you're pregnant and you can get away without heavy lifting you really shouldn't be smoking. Of course if you want to smoke theres nothing anyone can do about it, my friend smoked in pregnancy and her baby has a heart problem, even though the doctors said he would have this problem anyway and it was probably not a result of the smoke, she gave herself hell about it. If I was pregnant I would want my boyfriend to stop smoking, especially around me but we'll have to see about that, nobody can make him do what he doesn't want to do. The only time smoking worries me is if it's blown in my face or when I see mothers, accidently as it may be, blow smoke in their babies face.
  3. see, the majority of the people I know do smoke and I feel like a social leppar because i end up sat alone at tables waiting for them all to come back! But are you treating the illness? do the slimming pills mean that someone isn't going to continue to eat too much of the wrong thing? There are people who know they are eating themselves to death and still do it, much like those who are starving or smoking themselves to death
  4. sorry dragon i wasnt actually trying to have a go at drivers I was just trying to highlight the fact the smoking is actually not the reason for all the world's problems
  5. well i dont smoke so it must be refreshing for you to find someone who has a different opinion heh. By the way it does happen I know alot of people who just go for a drive, people that drive EVERYWHERE even just round the corner because they love to drive. So surely driving for the hell of it would be just as bad as smoking?
  6. The NHS spends £1million a week on slimming pills. £4.2billion in 2007 expected to rise to 6.7 by 2015 It spends 2.7billion on drinkers And 5billion on smokers. A&E is already making cut backs on treating binge drinkers the figure above is only the a&e spend I couldn't find any others. Looking at those figures and the information I've found I'm not so sure smoking is the massive deal here, I think we need to look at the scales if we're arguing over what costs more which inevitably comes up in each thread posted.
  7. Cyclone, I wasnt refering to illegal drug use it doesnt say that in my post. You can misuse prescription drugs, how is driving not promoting polution? If you drive you know for a fact that you are poluting the atmosphere in which case you can hardly blame smokers for doing it when you contribute to it. How many alcoholics can you say never ever saw their parents have a drink? Just because parents smoke it doesnt mean their kids will. As for numbers, well, people have a funny way of picking the ones that help their point whilst pretending the others aren't there. I'm just saying if its one rule for one why not for them all. Go the whole hog and say unless you're tetotal you can't have any kids.
  8. ok lets look at it this way If you smoke - your kids will smoke (apparently) and theres the whole 2nd hand smoke. if you drink - you are opening up the world of alcohol to that child and he or she may end up being an alcoholic. if you drive - you are promoting pollution and that can harm the child aswell as 2nd hand smoke. if you take medicines or drugs - you are opening up your child to a possibility to become addicted to drugs
  9. I know a better idea, we'll make sure no smokers who are good generous people can foster or adopt and we'll put all the kids into work camps instead..or, we'll give them all to paedophiles!
  10. I used to want to be a Reconstructive Artist, this is basically hair, make up, washing and dressing them plus any reconstructive work they need if they've been in an accident or something nasty. Unfortunately to learn this I would have had to move to america and at 16 thats a long way to go alone, because we don't have an open casket policy in england they don't teach reconstructive arts, if the body isn't looking good then they just close it. It's a real shame they don't do it because if they did then i think it would help more with the grieving process and more people could do as Whaltheof has posted above
  11. actually i would have asked the same question but for a different reason. I would have been interested to know why you can smoke in the work place if you are an actor lol.
  12. I actually can not believe what I've just read in this thread.. how can anyone compare smoking to what happened to baby P? Yes a fuss was made about baby p because his parents killed him, they knew exactly what they were doing and they still did. Smokers are nothing like what people are making them out to be. I'm asthmatic, my boyfriend smokes, sometimes its bad, sometimes its not. Fresh cut grass sets off my asthma, as does dust, heat, cars, general polution, animal hair (very mildly) and mould. So is smoking really the biggest factor? NOPE because its cut grass that's the worst for it. I said and was quoted on it that I would make my kid live with a smoker funny really how thats the one part of my post anyone picked up on and chastised me for when I did NOT say that I would make my child sit next to a smoker when smoking, I would not make my child try a cigarette I wouldn't even expect that child to want to be anywhere near a smoker when smoking, so how bad can I really be? I'm very sorry that I'd rather my child had a father than end up being a single parent simply because the father of that child smokes.
  13. there are worse things in this world than smoking and I would rather have someone smoke than inject drugs or something. Personally. Children shouldn't live in houses where the parents beat them/each other/both, they shouldn't have to live in a house where the adult is dependant on drugs and therefore cannot look after them, they shouldn't be malnourished or neglected. But can anyone really say that a smoker is not fit to look after a child? Anyone can get cancer not just smokers FACT.
  14. and as long as they don't **** in my bed i'll be happy
  15. Nope, the government doesn't want to ban smoking, that's why you can still smoke in parliament! They want everyone to carry on to line their pockets but they want to make it really really hard for everyone. I find it's worse now that the smoking ban is on and I don't even smoke!
  16. This is completely stupid!! I don't smoke personally, but my mum has just quit, my dad quit a while back, my boyfriend smokes. I wasn't brought up around that much smoke but alot of my parents friends smoke. If people can't foster or adopt children just because they smoke then that is absolutely pathetic. One day I would like to have children, whether the person I am with smokes or not shouldn't come into it, and yeah I'll force my poor little child to live in a house where a smoker lives. The government is just stupid if they are focusing on making sure smokers can't even breathe without breaking some kind of law or rule.
  17. im getting bored now because no matter how i put it you arent understanding what im saying so i shall leave you to your opinion
  18. What I say is that the threads posted on this forum are not aimed at discussing it's about telling someone what they believe is wrong, what I'm saying is that if that person turned around and said yeah ok everything is science when they started with everything is god they would be selling out their faith.
  19. didnt say that. i meant someone who convinces a christian that god doesnt exsist. for example, the majority of the threads on this forum lately have appeared to have that aim.
  20. did you realise when you made that argument that you agreed with my post?
  21. I know what God is. The thing that I find irritating is that there are usually at least 3 threads to do with religion, how the human race may survive, and what belief is correct. Now, just a thought but religion is a belief, anybody willing to sell out their belief and say "yeah ok you're right" obviously didn't have faith to start with, and the human race might stand a better chance if everyone stopped fighting over who's right. Belief is belief nobody is right or wrong. People don't actually believe that God sat their and moulded man out of clay, the bible, and religious books like it are there to allow the reader to interpret the stories themselves and get something from that. Religious people aren't nutty they just have faith.
  22. erm... nobody said religious people cannot believe in life on any other planet. I'll have you know I'm an enthusiastic follower of star trek. Seriously though just an estimate, how many god threads are there likely to be on this forum? Everywhere you look its God, god, god.
  23. if you have greasy hair lush do a "big shampoo" which is a sea salt one smells gorgeous and makes your hair soft and shiny. Its great.
