  1. Red , white and blue stripes to represent the two footy teams with a ball in the center (white / yellow / orange?) to denote the place whre modern football was founded.
  2. Really interesting link Jim. Don't think many folk today realise that in 1901 Sheffield had a population of 450k crammed in to a space roughly N to S Hillsboyough Corner to Bramall Lane and E to W beginning of Attercliffe to Broomhill. No council estates existed then and very few private suburbs. Still remember the huge amount of buildings blackened by smoke when we moved here in the late 60's - probably most prominent were Town Hall, Cathedral and St Mary's on the roundabout near the Lane.
  3. Are you buying? (Asking for a friend).
  4. Yep - like most UK manafacturers they'll continue to make some petrol models up to 2035.
  5. Amazing how the Government can millions to fund projects in a "blue wall" seat in an election year.
  6. Is it? https://www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-is-it-illegal-to-cross-the-channel-on-a-small-boat
  7. Rarely see my bro ther in law and no idea what he gets up to. Would guess it's the same for a lot of folk.
  8. Maybe it's the lack of new "woke" headlines in the Mail etc - they went to town on the "hot tick buns" and "gesture eggs" - and got laughed at 😎
  9. Thanks to lack of edit facility that's 1.2 million gross. 0.67 million net.
  10. Less than half of the asylum seekers - 30,000 out of 67.000. https://www.refugeecouncil.org.uk/information/refugee-asylum-facts/top-10-facts-about-refugees-and-people-seeking-asylum/?doing_wp_cron=1644521965.9435420036315917968750&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwq86wBhDiARIsAJhuphlT9t3biiV-p6XMDGmlBMcgj0BdRMjugRjPqMYgdDpvLaRGCUBeVW0aAuxZEALw_wcB and way less than legal immigration, 1.2 million gross, 6.7 mollion net. https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/sn06077/#:~:text=What are the UK's latest, net migration figure of 672%2C000.
  11. Iyts over now - can't see any of the usual not posting.
  12. Useful article here; https://www.theguardian.com/money/2024/apr/08/uk-state-pensions-benefits-changes-april-triple-lock-rise Perhaps most useful to people on the older, lower pension , who may be entitled to additional benefits?
  13. Saw Kinnear play a few times - fairly classy for a right back at the time, but not noted for his heading ability. My mum died from dementia at a similar age - not noted for her footie skills.............. RIP Joe.
  14. In my experience, most homeless due to mental health, addiction etc had one or more failed tenancy behind them. often in social housing. It was maintaining a tenancy that was the major problem.
  15. Do you need a permit to park on the street round Meadowhead?
  16. West Street doesn't have more than a handul of "bustling busy shoppers" any time of day,
  17. That hasn't half jogged my memory. Born 1955 in a pit village near Doncaster, As soon as I learned to read beyond the basic "fat cat sat on the mat" I used to devour the sports pages - well, football and cricket and a bit of boxing.. From about 1964 to 68 I reckon I could name the first choice starting 11 of nearly all the Div 1 teams and the county cricket sides - plus the tourists. Sheffield Telegraph Monday to Saturday, think it was News of the World or People of a Sunday. Now living in France still follow the results and reports on line from the BBC, Independent & Guardian. One of my most treasured possessions is a Green 'Un from 1968 when the Owls beat Man Utd (then European Champs) 5 -4. Thanks for the post Cuttsie
  18. And his legacy is........................................... A wobbly footbridge over the Thames and a worse than wobbly Brexit agreement. As well as being remembered as a proven liar.
  19. Is any speed limit, rigidly enforced? Why on match days at Meadowhead for a few hundred rather than say on roads leading to Hillsbotough or the Lane on match days when thousands are heading towars them.
  20. No - please don't use common sense............................
  21. Economic migrants overwhelmingly come to the UK by scheduled passenger flights. Presumably the RAF should be shooting these down or escorting them back to from whence they came 😎
  22. Worked in the sector - the initial impetus for many of the homeless charities in Sheffield was the "Care In the Community" policy in the 80's - which effectively was emptying Middlewood by giving patients their belongings in a carrier bag and their bus fare to town.
  23. Totally agree - receipts from council house sales were earmarked to reduce Local Authority debt which was already being comfortably managed going back 35 years or so. Completely unnecessary unless your grasp of economics comes from your parents running a shop in Grantham.
  24. Right to Buy is IMHO the reason that many people say that councils give priority to "immigrants" in council housing, when in fact they're tenants of private landlords.
  25. Yup - if you're paying under £2 a pint then most of the money is going on VAT and excise duty. The ingredients will be cheap and more than likely fairly nasty.
