  1. You can find out latest updates on this fire on our website here http://www.syfire.gov.uk/3611.asp
  2. Note the Fire Brigades Union, which represents the majority of firefighters in the UK, is taking this industrial action, not the fire service itself. We are continuing to provide 999 response service during each strike period, albeit a severely reduced one. More info here http://www.syfire.gov.uk/3017.asp
  3. Thanks a lot for taking the time to post, our crews really appreciate the feedback!
  4. We got called to this incident at around 00.20 this morning. Two commercial bins and two wheelie bins had been pulled into the middle of London Road and set alight. Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111
  5. Our latest update on the investigation can be found here http://www.syfire.gov.uk/3427.asp We will have fire service staff in the area today and throughout the weekend offering safety advice, home safety checks and free smoke alarms if needed. Please look out for us if you are in the area.
  6. Five people have sadly died in this incident. Our thoughts this morning are with all those affected http://www.syfire.gov.uk/3417.asp
  7. Just to let you know firefighters and community safety teams will be in the area today and over the next fortnight offering free Home Safety Checks, including smoke alarms if needed. Please look out for them if you would like a safety visit.
  8. More than a third of house fires involve electrical equipment, so we've teamed up with the Electrical Safety Council to develop a checklist to enable you to carry out a quick visual check of your home electrics. What's more, everyone who tried the checklist by midnight on 31 March will be entered into a free prize draw to win a 16GB iPad Mini. You can try the checklist and enter at 13orbust.co.uk If you do discover a problem that needs fixing, there is advice on finding a reputable electrician on the Electrical Safety Council here Or for more advice on preventing fires try our website here
  9. We've teamed up with Twitter to offer critical information on your phone in real time. It's for when there's a major emergency and, basically, the alert will appear prominently in your timeline, or by text message to your phone. To sign up for alerts, click here Currently all fire and police services, and some Government departments, have been verified by Twitter to use the service.
  10. It would have made an interesting pic! We take it you have replaced the batteries now?
  11. Of course we recommend only eating pizza in moderation and as part of a balanced healthy diet!
  12. We're trying to encourage people to test their smoke alarms ahead of the busy winter period, when our data shows people are more likely to have a house fire than at any other time of the year. We'd like you to send us a photo of you testing your alarms, either via our competition page on Facebook here or simply by emailing it to press@syfire.gov.uk In return, we'll enter you into a free prize draw to win one of twenty £10 Pizza Hut gift cards. The competition closes on Tuesday. Good luck!
  13. We're currently looking for people to work as 'on call' firefighters at our part time fire stations in Penistone, Stocksbridge, Dearne, Askern and Rossington. If you are interested in finding out more about the role, there is some info on our website here http://www.syfire.gov.uk/oncallfirefighters.asp
