  1. Espadrille, I honestly don't remember, or if I even knew his last name. Don't think it was anything malicious; just remember he used to pick on me and you know how it was, people trying to get up or down those narrow stairs pushing and squeezing past - well it just happened that day. Funny how things stick in your mind. I remember the conker fights with the boys, ice skating down the hill at the lower school and, yes, people smoking behind the bike sheds. I had mentioned the frog pond. That still grosses me out - people used to pick them up but we wouldn't go near them. I'm scared to frogs. Maybe I should have kissed one, as I'm still waiting for my prince to come alone!!! LOL.
  2. Someone had mentioned Paula Dobson: that's a name I remember. Also the 2 Lynns (Gilliver and Ginniver) may be spelling those wrong. I have a form photo I will look out. Believe Miss Hetherington was our form teacher, if my memory serves me right (taken in front of the Upper School). Also remember 'scrapping' on the stairs one day with a guy (think his name was Glynn): we were told to report for detention by Mr. Beavers, but I got out of it. (Admission here - me and one of my friends had a crush of Mr. Beavers). He used to make such funny faces during Assembly and we'd laugh our heads off!!!
  3. Thanks Wallace - great to be back. Espadrille, at least I saw that part of the field was still there. I'll take another walk up there in the summer. And I had forgotten about that 'smell.' Does anyone remember the name of the Art Teacher; think he came after Blagden left. I was in his class in 5th year, I believe. Really nice guy.
  4. I've only just found this site. Went to Ashleigh from '67 to '73. Was Hurlfield Girls then merged with the Tech. I was one of only 4 Blacks in the school. I remember a lot of the teachers mentioned, and one of my favourites was Mrs. Wingrove: she was very strict, but I liked her. Been living in New York for almost 22 years and only been back nearly 2 years. Took a walk up there, as I had not been since leaving, but had heard it had been knocked down. Felt very sad. A large part of my life. We had lots of fun - remember the snowball fights with Hurlfield Boys. Does anyone remember the 'frog pond'? How about sneaking off to the Punch Bowl at lunchtime for cornish pasties?
