I went to the Emmanuel Youth Club on Leeds road in Attercliffe - played for their football team also. Circa 1959 to 1962. Anyone else?

Hi I also went to Emmanuel . With graysons Harry strutt dick bates. Hugh was the club leader. Played footie table tennis snooker as well. Great place.

  2. hi I went to fairthorne. along with my brothers.it was a big rambling house .with dorms which were different colours, and you were placed in one of these . it was for poor or underweight children.we had long walks and activities in the countryside walking for hours on nature trails etc.gave you a hearty appetite. food was a plenty which was great news for us.we had a job everyday to do ie cleaning gardening etc.visits were on a sunday. my dad used to come with a few bob or fruit sweets buns to put in yre bank to b eaten during the week.there was a lot of under privilage children there. we came from Attercliffe which was mostly slum housing in the 60s.so it was a nice break for us and our parents.although I got upset at first and tried to get the bus home on my own.looking back it served a purpose and I enjoyed my time there.very strict rules and everyone stuck to them.

  8. My father (chippy Clarke) worked for Jonas & Colver, in the rolling mills. The mill he worked in was directly behind the 'low drop'(Crown). He told me the lad over the wall, was how it got its nick name, but I still can't think which low wall someone could get over, the wall in the mill which was adjacent to the pub must have been 20ft high with a roof resting on it..still, a good story.

They had one of those with the metal consertina doors and a lift attendant that operated a large lever to choose which floor to go to. My mum always tells a story about my Gran having all the assistants looking for me and I was in the changing rooms laughing at them!!

lift attendant only had one arm. he used to chase us as kids when we messed about on the lift.xmas was magical with trees all round the roof lit up. went to see father xmas there.got a plastic fire engine ace.
