  1. So I move over and travel slower, so that you can stay in the outside lane and go faster? Yeah right. Think you need to sit in the left and chill out. Ever consider that if the guy in front of me moved over, I'd be going faster? As to the highway code. I'm doing nothing wrong. The part that mentions moving left is ONLY ADVISORY. There's been a comment about if you sit in the right, you're blocking emergency vehicles? Can't speak for others. I personally try to keep well aware of whats around me. I've personally got 'a problem' with the whole concept of I.C.E. and its potential to distract. First sign of a blue light, I will pull over and I appear to be the 1st to do so. First few times I drove the Parkway, I drove as you said. Then I decided to drive to the conditions. That includes how others drive. So, where'd you take your test, how long you been driving, how many brushes with the law and how many insurance claims?
  2. Cycling round Sheffield and Rotherham - The busdrivers tend to be OK (if you take National Express out of the equation) Big 4x4s can be a problem, but generally its inattentive drivers.
  3. Why? The Parkways that busy then that if I move left the person behind can only get alongside me. I then have to try to get back across later. By that point, I'm seen as having undertaken and its a sod to get over.
  4. Got to admit, a few times I've wondered if it'd be wiser to get in the left, go to the Park Square RAB, do a 180 and back up to Cutlers Gate?
  5. I can be not overtaking, when both lanes are at about the same speed. No point moving left then. Where'd I learn to drive. M'bike - Doncaster 22 years ago Car - Rotherham 20 years ago and I drove for a living for 5 of those. in that time 2 tickets 36 in a 30 and 60 on the Parkway.... No insurance claims.... Not a bad record
  6. He reckons he's a retired traffic cop with over 20 years experience!! I can't see how anyone who'd witnessed the carnage on our roads, over a 20 year period would want to be associated with this tripe!
  7. Yes "they have to give way." If the middle lanes clear I consider it a courtesy to move into it.
  8. Not spending £30 on 'Your' book. The 'tip' has been given. So I know the supposed get out. Its telling that MrB hasn't been back on to support it with evidence. "Besides I think all cyclists need to be euthanized." - Keep an eye out, Big Billy Goat Gruffs been spotted round here.
  9. So you can't provide any case law or evidence to back MrBs claim?
  10. The other side of this is that there are plenty of on and off slip roads, which are very busy. By staying right these are left less 'busy', and easier to negotiate. In the same way, if I'm on the M'way going thro a junction and the middle lanes clear, I'll move into it. This allows an easier entrance to the m'way for those on the slip.
  11. So stay left, incase stressed, emotionally disturbed people want to shoot past in excess of the speed limit?
  12. I don't believe it, but yes I have heard this exact nonsense before. Probably from someone who's read a forum like this in the past where no ones challenged the assertion and therefore its gained an unwarranted appearance of legitimacy. Just have to cycle on the roads to realise theres plenty of people out there with licences, who have strange ideas about what's legal or not
  13. So you shoot down and end up behind someone in the RH lane, at Handsworth. Someone drives up behind you. What do you do? maintain your position? move into the inside lane? Your quote from the highway code shows only ADVISORY info. They're doing nothing illegal
  14. Personally insulting - backs up the trolling suggestion. Although the OP stated M'ways, MrBs post said nothing limiting it to them. But seeing as you pretend to take offence: Can you back it up with anything other than an advert? Note: the advert didn't even hint at a 'seatbelt' defence for speeding.
  15. I've heard this touted as truth before. I'd like to challenge him to back it up, before some prat believes it & tries doing 70 past a school!
  16. Thats not case law or a reference that has anything to do with verifying MrBs claim Its an advert for a £30 book So no one can back up his claim? It's just an urban myth, or a trolling post?
  17. You got any case law or reference to back that up??
  18. Depends on the copper, its discretionary. I remember a chief copper in a national redtop essentially saying "the limits the limit. In my area if you're spotted doing 31 in a 30 you'll get a ticket." I believe the final line was "Exceed the limit and we'll be doing business"
  19. I'm cycling commuting regularly between Maltby and Near the Ski Village. Got to say the bus drivers are usually the more considerate drivers, giving plenty of room. There are a lot of decent drivers out there. Sadly there's a few prats, but there's some on bikes too. For me, the worst offenders are National Express drivers. They'll pass you at speed, with 18" room and start moving back towards the kerb when they're only a quarter past you!
  20. I cycle commute 3 days a week. Maltby to Hillsboro. Not that fit either. I'd guess your 10 miles should take about 35-40 mins
