  1. this woman wants tracing & educating as regard to owning a dog i have 3 gsd`s iif there is any danger of a dog being unpredictable then it should be muzzled and on a short lead and steps taken to assess the dog & trained to behave properly a dog should only be put down if there is no there is no other solution [had to do this with one of my other dogs and it was heartbreaking there are very few `bad` dogs but far too many bad owners as a result it is the poor dog that loses it`s life because some owners think they do not need to be taught how to keep & control them properly report the incident to the police they may be able to make the woman concerned seek help
  2. try rescue centres they usually have pups/young dogs that need aloving home & down here [redditch nr stratford ] they insist you take your own dog up to ensure they will get on rescue a dog & save a life
  3. i studied with the witnesses for a good few years and was very sceptical when i started with them [i was also a sunday school teacher when i was younger and knew my bible] so all my lessons with them involved me challenging thier teachings [this was before the onset of the aids outbreak] since the aids issue thier beliefs as regards blood has been somewhat vindicated [asked the ones who needed regular blood transfusions like hymaphiacs etc who recieved tainted blood & now have aids because at the beginning of the aids out break blood was not tested as rigourous as it is now] back in the 80`s some surgeons were opperating using blood expanders, even heart surgery, but i suppose blood is cheaper to use than expanders, to me the issue of blood use is a personal choice i would not impose it on anyone let alone a child i never found them controlling and agree with a lot of what they teach- my studies ended mainly because i cannot stop smoking & so could not be accepted as a witness but at no time was i made to feel an outcast as i said my studies involved me challanging thier teachings which they atempted to prove not only whith the bible but with the history books [ the guy i took studies with studied ancient history at uni] i never found the ones i was studing with overbearing just the opposite. religious beliefs are are specific to each individual and as such dont think i or anyone has the right to say that thier belief is the right one or the wrong one ,my own out look is to try and treat others as you would want to be treated i think if we all did this the the world would be a lot better place to live
  4. if he was the guy with the dog on a rope & used to walk with his head back & mouth always open then iremember him used to see him often but never spoke to him
  5. what are thier names-used to be a couple who lived at the back of clematis rd in early 80`s belonged to the blue angels tho not hells angels
  6. if concerned then the best thig to do is check with your vet
  7. used to know the mitchell family-margret dave dennis susan kathy mother`s name ada they lived on wybourn close to hyde park flats
  8. i said the same thing until i checked it out they work & used properly cause no problems [it was used as a last resort] it was this or run the risk of my dog beiing injured or worse when she broke her lead/collar because she had no road sense they are no danger to the animal if used properly[ chokers cause more throat & breathing problems[ from a report done by an american survey ] i have now been using them for about 10 years [after seeking advise from my vet] my 3 shepherds are health checked every six month or so & have never had any problems with breathing or throat they are not sharp prongs like the ones used in germany with me it was a choice between safe dog or possibly dead dog as i say i have found no problem with my dogs using them i am as soft as abrush when it comes to my dogs in our house the dogs come first {they are spoilt rotten -if they are on settee muggins here here cops for the floor ]
  9. if the dog is pulling & snapping leads then i suggest you use the american pinch collar my german shepherd bitch was a big girl [8.5 stone] she used to pull & snap leads used the collar no more pulling [it looks a cruel bit of kit but after researching it on the net it causes far less damage than a choke chain] have used one one all my shepperds since no more uncontrollable pulling it`s called pronged pinch choke & can be found on e-bay my dog trainer recommended it to me & i was against using it at first because they do look cruel but they are not and after trying haltis chokers & various harnesses have found this the best by for but please remember do not check the dog as hard as you would with an ordinary choke or collar
  10. i believe you can report him if only because if the dog is allowed to roam the it is not under proper control so i would say the owner is committing an offence
  11. depending on printer model you can get a continuous ink supply much much cheaper [in the long run] than buying cartridges check on the web for price & printer models
  12. was a member of darnall 49th in the 60`s& 70`s great days-names i remember john palmer, jordan brothers, houseman, coulton bros
  13. was there 62-67 remember the teachers- machin used to open the gym after school for badminton jack crawshaw was our form teacher- turton, marsh, houdmont, greenhough, godbehere, were teaching there in my time remember worrall `beerbarrel` milner dave parkin as being in the same class -left term before it remamed hurlfield comp was there when swanny blew himself up in the lab-made afair mess of himself but fortunately survived name`s lacey
  14. hi snagglepus as already said on the thread beautiful dog [i have 3 shepherds-one white-one b/tan one blonde&beige] i have also fostered dogs before & any animal lover that fosters will no doubt feel as you do it is a wrench to let them go but if they go to a loving home then your heartache is worth the knowledge that they are in a happy caring home & you have saved a poor animal from destruction where possible i try & keep in touch with the new family to provide help & backup if needed & usually the new owners are more than happy to update you as regard the dogs progress so once again thankyou for caring and keep up the good work the knowledge that you are saving thier poor lives is, in my opinion, is worth all the heartache of having to let them go so again i say well done, many thanks & keep up the good work god bless you
  15. hi i own 3 gsd`s at the monent [also had yorkies & yorkies with gsd as such i have seen most problems involved with walking both small & large dogs i was always taught that before you let a dog off it`s lead in public it should respond immediately to the recall ,emergency down [you shout down & the dog immediatly goes down] & be totally confident that it will walk to heel ignoring any distraction, mine will but having said that if i have mine off the lead having their run & i see another dog within 50 yards or so i will recall them & leash them until i know that there is no danger of a confrontation i find it strange when another dog owner whose dog is off the lead allows it to run upto mine normally shouting it`s alright he/she won`t hurt them he/she just wants to play mine are dog friendly but even i can`t guarentee that mine will allow a strange usually bouncy dog to approach without them being a little wary you can never predict the out come of stange dogs meeting nomatter how well you know your dog so i would prefer to be safe rather than sorry there are very few bad dogs but a lot of bad owners & invariably it is bad owners that get the various breeds a bad name

  19. just a quick reply i agree with all thats been said i will add that you can get collapsible pens [basicly connected mesh panels come in various heights] if you have room in the office to put one it may be better than a crate because it gives them room to move around rather than being resticted to the crate it has aready been said dogs are pack animals & are clever at getting thier own way [which to them is getting higher up the pecking order] so yes you have to be firm with your self as well as the dog & not give in to their poor pityful whining & looks -at the end of the day it is for their benefit & well being that you have to be firm
  20. i have had dogs all my life [60 years young] & yes dogs do mourn the loss of what is in effect a pack member- i`ve seen this many times as i have always had at least 2 dogs in the house, they usually come to terms with it - as we do- but sometimes like us they dont -i lost a yorkshire terrier when she was 14 within six weeks her mate also 14 died [broken heart pining] i dont now but like wolves dogs tend to be very pack orientated - in your home they become part of your family i.e pack they need lots of love & comforting maybe even a new furry family member
