  1. Thank you. I really don't know if that's the case though I think it isn't. But probably it's better to just get a gas registered electrician anyway
  2. Hi I would like to install a Nest smart thermostat and I am doing some research about it. I am not going to fit it myself but will hire an electrician to do the job. But after reading about it, it seems that you need to make sure 1) it fit with your current heating system; 2) the wiring could be complicated (at least to me as a nobody in terms of wiring!) I don't want to buy it and then realise it is not compatible with my property. So I would to ask how do I check if my property will be ok (I currently have a Worcester combi boiler that has a remote thermostat), and how should I choose electricians for this job, could any electrician do it? Many thanks!

  4. Hi I am about to alter the structure of my house and I need to move the security alarm control unit from its current installation to a different room. I can see it has a couple of wires connected to it for power supply. I guess the work will temporarily cut off its power supply. Is it a straightforward job to do or do I need to call the company to get it completely disabled first? the model is Accenta 8 Mini Many thanks!
  5. i just moved home and i cant get freesat to work. im pretty sure i did the right thing cause i did it a few times in the past but it cannot detect signal. i wonder if anything is wrong is with the dish. Who should I speak to for help? Electrician? BT engineer? Sky engineer? I don't want to use any paid satellite TV though. Many thanks in advance ---------- Post added 21-12-2014 at 10:32 ---------- Any suggestions please thanks
  6. If you need a gas engineer I also recommend METGAS, speak to Mike at 07592418536. A really nice that's been servicing my boiler for years. Needed to do a boiler survey at a property I am buying recently and he sorted it out for me as well, very well done and very pleased, thanks Mike!
  7. Hi Could anyone advise me (in general) the cost of building a single storey rear extension + a side garage? The rear extension is about 2m (depth) x 6.1m, and I want the original wall on the ground floor to be knocked down if possible. The garage is about standard size. Any rough estimation of the price range would be great, unable to get real quote as this is a property I am wanting to buy and need to know how much budget I need to get it to my standard. Many thanks!
  8. Hi I am in need of two wooden bed parts to fix my king sized bed. Could anyone suggest where I can find them, is it joiners I should look for? The first part I think is called a (possibly standard) bed slat, that sits horizontally on the bed frame on the along the width of the bed frame. The second part is trickier, and I cannot find the right name to describe it so I supply pictures below. To describe it, it is part of the bed frame, or possibly "main slat", which sits vertically along the length of the bed frame. So together with the two sides of the bed frame, they support the horizontal slats sitting on top. This part has awkward shape at two ends as it "fits in" the main frame and I think it needs to be measured and supplied specifically. You can see the shape on the pictures below. Where can I find someone or somewhere to supply these please? 9. I can recommend John Ballantyne at Jtb Roof & Build Ltd, 07791326848. They re-roofed our house in June and it was excellent work and very good price. Among all the quotes I got he gave the best deal and I felt he's a very honest and friendly person. All proper, professional paperwork was supplied and done in time. Work also started and finished on time with high quality. His team is brilliant, friendly and helpful. They also did a couple of small jobs free of charge. I think I will always use them. Highly recommended!
  10. many thanks for your advice! will definitely use them next time
  11. Thanks for the reply. The paste was thick. Cannot tell exactly, but I used the amount of paste for 3 rolls on just 2 rolls. i didnt seal the walls, they were dry and i think quite smooth. i used a filling knife and sponge to clean the walls before hanging the wallpaper was "paste the wallpaper" type, according to the instructions I ve found some information that says most new wallpapers today are "strippable" or "removable", meaning you dont need a steamer and they can be removed dry, usually leaving the paper backing on the wall. Is this true? i hope mine is of this type...
  12. Hi I have recently wallpapered my room using some wickes blown vinyl wallpaper and also wickes wallpaper paste. Did it a few weeks ago and it all looked nice. Today just accidentally I noticed that it is very easy to strip off these wallpaper - i didn't even need to wet or steam it. I used a craft knife to peel off a tip of it at the joining gaps, then it is so easy to strip it off by holding the tip and pulling it out. This is totally unexpected. It took me a hell of effort to strip off the old wallpaper as the paste was so strong and I was hoping the new wallpapers should stay the same. It's been weeks since the job was done and it is certainly completely dry. so my question is, is this normal, or what could be wrong? I googled a bit and found a website mentioning that new wallpapers are just easy to strip, but certainly cannot be so effortless? Thanks in advance
  13. Hi XXTickerXX what is this firmware you use and does it come with your router? I also heard people talking about tweaking noise levels in router, but had no idea how to do it, can you share a bit more details about this? Thanks
  14. Thanks for the quick reply. I did post on talktalk forum as well, and it was similar response - it was passed on to network team, who then replied that they've done some test on the line but couldnt find a disconnection fault. Also tried different filters, and adsl cables, unless all the two sets i ve tried are both faulty, it must be something else. When dropouts happen, it happens after some time (15-30 mins) of usage. If it is not used then it stays on. I think I will try a different router/filter/cable to see if that helps.
  15. Hi I live in stannington - near the library on the top of the hill - and I am on talktalk broadband. I wonder if anyone currently has, or had constant frequent internet connection lost or similar problems with talktalk? I have been having connection lost problem since Mid January. Having tried all possible tests/alternative devices and the problem still comes on and off, much more frequent than just normal occasional disconnections, and much worse than when it was initially installed. I called their technical support but they said they've done tests on the line and could not find any problem. They say if nothing helps, the last option would be to have an engineer visit, which may cost me £130, even if the problem cannot be fixed. That's really useless, and I dont know where I should go from here. I would rather try a different ISP, but a broadband problem can be caused by any fault, you'll never know if changing isp can really help until maybe its too late... so im posting my story here, hopefully if you had similar experience like mine, or know any relevant technical stuff, I'd really appreciate any info! thanks
