  1. Hi JoeP When were you a student? I might know that guy!
  2. Hi Les Todd was playing that guitar when I saw him in Sheffield - I believe it's called The Fool (just like rare Stradivarius violins have individial names!). I'm fairly sure Todd sold the guitar, but had a copy made from it first - so it might have been the copy I saw (though Todd did say it was Clapton's. Todd plays that guitar on here: http://www.seahaas.com/toddrundgren/videovault.html Click on Tiny Demons. Todd also sold a lot of other assets - including his stake in Bat Out of Hell. Glad there are two of us on here!
  3. My hero! (Apart from Todd - see my other thread!) Bruce played in Sheffield a couple of years ago, but unfortuantely, the audience was pretty small. Any other fans on here?
  4. When I was a student (1980-83) Sheffield had a small but perfectly formed community of Todd fans. Anyone else here see him in the Lower Refectory around then?
  5. It's just arrived - 'Morph the Cat' by Donald Fagen. Only problem is, I went out and bought it on the day it came out and then discovered that if you download it from iTunes, there is an extra track which cannot be bought separately. How annoying is that?
  6. If you search on here, you'll find the local contact: http://www.sheffieldhelpyourself.org.uk/
  7. Sorry - this should have been addresses to Midgecat who asked the orginal question!
  8. Gnomi - the booklet referred to is the Community Care Directory - though I think all the homes are in the Yellow Pages too. You could ring the helpline of Sheffield Carers Centre on 272 8362 to get a copy of the Diectory. You can see inspection reports on the web (http://www.csci.gov.uk/) and talk to relatives of people already in homes, but there is no substitute for visiting a few homes (preferably unannounced) and looking around. Is it the sort of place you'd want to live if you needed that sort of care? And remember, it's not just a matter of there being good and less good homes - it's whether a particular home suits a particular (potential) relative. Burt it's never easy having to find a home in these circumstances and being sure you've done the right thing. Good luck
  9. Mine keeps getting bounced back. Anyone else having this trouble? Cheers
  10. I am thinking about buying a HD / DVD recorder such as the Sony RDRHX510 advertised on the John Lewis website. Can anyone tell me: 1 If I use re-writable discs, can I just use them over and over again, in part of whole ( a bit like using a floppy disc on a computer)? 2 Does anyone have experience on this particular model? I would look at the equivalent Panasonic, but I have had a bad experience with a DVD of that brand and there is a long thread on here about them. 3 This model has a 80BG hard disc - how many hours worth of TV can I record on that? 4 Are most commercial DVDs copy protected in some way? Any other advice welcome! Thanks
  11. Now I think about it again, wasn't it Cricklewood? And what about Reggie??
  12. To solve an office argument... can anyone remember the fictional addresses at which Reggie Perrin and Eric Sykes lived in their respective shows? Thanks!
  13. Thinking about buying a PDA, but havn't really looked at any before. I would really like one that will sync with both my PC (running Outlook) at work AND my iMac (running Entourage) - is this possible? Any recommendations?
  14. Update: Engineer came this morning, turned on the boiler and despite leaving it on for 20 minutes, prodding and probing it, it leaked not one drop of water. He also looked at the repair he did last time and said he was confident it was OK. So just having to leave it till it leaks again. And while we're on this subject.... I know I should have asked the guy while he was here... I seem to contantly have to bleed some of the radiators - why might this be? Thanks for the replies I've already had!
  15. I November, my Vaillant CH boiler started leaking. An engineer replaced teh air valve and it was fine. Now it is leaking again. Anyone any idea why the air valve should fail again so soon? Thanks
  16. Only just spotted this post (nearly 3 years late!) Anyone else on here see Todd at the University student union in about '82?
  17. Book-passing (I think it goes under several names) is an idea whereby a book is left in a public place for someone to pick up, read, and leave in another place for somoene else to pick up, read.... and so on. Usually, there is a label stuck in the front of the book explaining how the system works, and an invitation for people who book to post on a website where they found it and what they thought of it. The BBC's Pageturner show started one such scheme. Unfortuantely, it seems to me that the the books don't circulate for very long - someone fails to pass them on, either deliberately, or because they forget. Has anyone on this forum ever picked up a book in this way?
  18. Doh!! - I read the title of this thread and thought someone was recruiting people to campaign against a new branch of Tesco!
  19. Thanks Mr Chris - that makes sense - I'll try later!
  20. Don't really want to re-start the PC v Mac wars! Yes, I am using the OS to do the copying / deleting, but I think that that should work fine. There are is CD burning software for the Mac and admittedly I haven't tried it, but a hunch tells me that it won't help. I realise that the CD-RWs have a finte life, but these (and I've tried more than one) aren't very old.
  21. A while ago I backed up lots of files on my G4 iMac onto a CD-RW disc. I now want to make a new backup, overwriting the old backups, but when I drag the files over I get a message sayin the CD can't be modified. If i try to drag all the files on the CD into the trash, I'm told I can't do that, and if I Alt-click the disc icon on the desktop I don't get an option to reformat the disc or delete the iles on it. What am I doing wrong??
