  1. The only one I know of is Shortferry which is about 1 hours drive from Sheffield.
  2. Hello burghley, Welcome to Sheffield. There used to be a deaf club on Surrey St/ Norfolk St. near the town hall but not sure if its still there it is some years since I went. If you look online for deaf clubs in Sheffield it should tell you where they are. Regards Alan.
  3. Why do people start a topic asking for help or information and then don't acknowledge the help/information thats been given?
  4. Hello Craig, The area's you have mentioned are not far from the airport, Urb La Marina is about 20 minutes from Alicante airport. Torrevieja about 30minutes. A taxi is around 50 euro one way, you can also catch the bus to Torrevieja for about 8 euro. The bus goes through La Marina village every hour so you could get a taxi from there to the Urb which would be around 5 euro's. Urb La Marina has many supermarkets and restaurants all in walking distance so no need to drive there is a bus that runs in the summer to the beach and back for a couple euro. Try looking on the Costa Blanca forums or Torrevieja forum for more info. Hope this helps. Alan.
  5. People that start a topic on the forum and ask for a reply and then not acknowledge it. It happens a lot on here.😡
  6. Hello Albert, Yes I know George but I think he could be older than me, I'm 69 next birthday. He had the Scottish Queen on Parkhill flats which I used but it was before he took it. Everytime I see your name it reminds me of a Albert Smith who married Margaret Siddall are you related? I used to drink with Albert in all the pubs on Parkhill and Red Lion on Duke Street that is a long time ago. Alan.
  7. Hello Amy, I knew your nan very very well, I never knew that she had worked at the Fav even though I was a regular there. Your nan was my sisters best friend from being 8years old to her sudden death which came has a big shock to her and me also when I heard. I was brought up in the Park district we lived on South Street, you will know my sister Jenny she lived above your nan in the flats just off Duke Street. I was a few years younger but w still got up to loads of stuff like nicking potatoes from a warehouse just off South Street and taking them to her house on Granville Street and cooking them on the fire back with Cynthia too. I won't put my full name here on the forum, I'm so sorry that she has gone but she won't ever be forgotten. Alan.
  8. Hello Jonmatt, I had a caravan there over 10 years ago, I was thinking of getting another and asked for information about Shortferry on this part of the forum and it was moved and I didn’t get any replies. So expect yours will get moved to the caravan section and then the same may happen to you. Alan.

  10. Hello bazmanau, It was Stuchburys, Cyril was the owner I did the big block but had to meet him on St Johns Road to get the papers from his car because the shop was just being built.. That would be about 55years ago. Alan.

  13. I remember the awards given for best council house garden. I used to know Tony (Tiger)Thorpe who’s parents won it a few times. Not sure if it was at Parsons Cross or Shiregreen. That would be around 1967/8.

  15. The old park school was a senior school for a time and they then moved them to Norfolk school and Hurlfield.
  16. I would say 65 to 70. I had a great time, the music the Esquire, Mojo, Wheel in Manchester and Beachcomber in Nottingham. Alan P.
  17. I got to know Pete Stringfellow through my older brother who worked with him selling first aid kits door to door. Pete came to our house a few times and would always try and chat my sister up but she wasn’t interested,my brother helped him when he started with the clubs and my step father worked on the door. Over the years we lost touch till I started going to the Mojo for the all nighters which we would go to after the Esquire club and we would go into Pond street toilets to change into our suits. I went to his clubs in Sheffield and Leeds and was a regular in the Down broadway club/coffee bar which was the last time I saw him to talk with. There was 4 brothers Geoff Pete Paul and another brother who lived either on Parson cross or Shiregreen who I think had a problem with the family.I don’t remember their dad but I remember the mother who often worked on the door taking the money who we always called Ma. I have loads of memories of the days back then. Every time I saw Pete on the TV it would bring it all back.Alan P Its such a sad loss. Alan P.

  22. Arthur Edwards one of the 4 Edward brothers who was well known in Castle market and the old rag and tag opened a fruit shop in Firthpark on the corner of Bellhouse road and Sicey Ave. That was around 1966/7 I think,I knocked around with Arthurs son Mick and I used to sell flowers for Arthur outside from the shop. I really enjoyed it meeting the people and he always paid me well. Alan.
