  1. I do more video encoding. Self learning as I go. HEVC is amazing. Downside is you need a very powerful PC to encode it in a sensible time scale (and fast NVMe hard drives) As for music. I spent a lot of the afternoon listening to Pink Floyd encoded in FLAC. I encode FLAC for the PC/Plex server. MP3@320 for the car USB. As for Apple kit. Install VLC on your iPad. In settings of VLC you can create a local web page and upload video and audio via your home network on that...very easy. I use Windows/Chrome, also works fine with Linux. Yes, just a bit of fun about the OS
  2. That's my point. Use whatever you like, and what works best for you. I mainly use Windows as the software I like runs well on it. I also have a Mac 27" (one of the last Intel) and another test PC which tends to be used for looking at versions of Linux. I never get the "This OS is best, This browser is best" mob. Although...Windows is the best! (Sorry, couldn't resist)
  3. It's like any PC that's yours. You can decide on the OS (hardware dependant) the web browser or the Anti Virus software etc. There's no law that says 'only use this' There's plenty of people that like you to think that way. The AV's above were previously tested with the 'nasties USB' both held their own. I like the easy life now. If the built in keeps on par, I'll leave it there.
  4. I have a USB full of various nasty computer (Viri?) Anyway, a lot of bad stuff that will really spoil your 'Computing' day. I keep it fairly up to date and test on an old PC with a few VM's with various AV software on them. Windows own AV is still giving good results. But I don't know what the morons will think of next. The main reason we have to think twice with anything that looks dodgy...don't click it!
  5. And there you have the simple, and right answer. (IMO) I have only used the built in one on Windows from the release of Windows 10. Now on Windows 11 and still using it. But to put things in perspective, no single Anti Virus software is 100%. It's always a game of cat and mouse. The morons release a computer virus, the race begins again. As RollingJ said, you have to do your part "don't go on dodgy sites/click unknown links etc" If that little alarm bell rings in your head, just leave whatever it is and move on. Give me chance to type! Yes I was an IT manager for years, but I'm still crap at typing!
  6. It could be how you're wording it, and upper and lower case lettering. I'd say a bot is refusing it before a person sees it. EG: 16GB Samsung DDR4 3200 RAM Samsung ??? 256GB M.2 NVMe Sanyo 2 Channel Soundbar. Model number ????? Plus it will help buyers if you give a full and accurate description. I wouldn't even bother clicking on an ad that just said 256gb nvme. I'm not having a dig. Just trying to help get you a sale
  7. That's right. 100% isn't always good either! A bit of reading and you'll see the false ratings. If I have to use eBay: 100% rating (unless it's obvious the buyer got it wrong) How long they have been trading on eBay, How many 100% in the last 3 months Where they are based (I do buy the odd thing from China, and at times it's got here faster than Royal Mail UK to UK!) It can still be a bit hit and miss, mainly for the reasons spoken about in this thread...DELIVERY, or lack of it.
  8. Not good, and another reason to cancel. It may just be for the Christmas panic buying, but the 10pm changed from 9pm (was it?) months ago.
  9. Very true about eBay. I don't use it much now. As for Amazon, I'm seriously thinking of cancelling my Prime membership. Not only has the TV and Films got a bit stale, deliveries up to 10pm! I don't think so...employ more drivers and deliver at sensible times! Some of their drivers won't come up to my apartment (only 2 high with a lift) I just tell them to take it back and I'll phone Amazon and let them know you won't come to my front door. It's quite funny looking at their 'angry face' when they take a whole minute to bring it up. Most are OK with it TBH. From what you say, has the map and how many stops away they are gone? I use a couple of cheap online only places such as 7dayshop and a place for my e-cig parts/liquid. It's either free delivery or £2.50, both Royal Mail tracked/signed for and very fast delivery. Until some companies learn that the delivery is part of the service, hit them in their pocket and use companies that use decent delivery people. I know it not always possible, but a bit of time on Google usually finds items at the same price, with better delivery options.
  10. Yodel are 0.000005% better than Evri. They are also on my 'Not to use' list.
  11. Evri are terrible in every way! (no pun intended) The scary thing is that Royal Mail Parcels are going to use them and DPD (No problems with DPD) I'm not sure if it's a signed deal. A big mistake if Royal Mail Parcels let that company throw our deliveries any place they see fit. I've had so many problems with delivery companies, mainly Evri (Hermes). The name change conned a few for a short time. I will no longer buy from any company that uses them. I tend to pay the extra now for a definite day and time slot, by a decent company. The OP must keep pushing. Delivery companies like Evri and penny pinching sellers/companies need to be made to pay. Not the genuine people that pay good money and get terrible service.

    Tp Link

Odd, I have it coming up as a fairly old model WiFi dongle (USB2 - 54Mbps) EDIT: Just noticed the model number in the link...that might be why So, whatever it is...If it's a router, it won't work until configured (good chance it's on a different subnet) If it's a WiFi dongle, it won't work until you connect it to your router. EDIT: If you're using Windows, it should find the driver for you, if it's the dongle.
  13. My Mum/Step Dad sounds the same as your Dad. She's very independent and does get help to stay at home. I think the hospital organised a key worker? She gets attendance allowance (about £100 pw) She uses this for payments to a company to come out and help her shower etc, but they also do jobs in the house that she, and her husband can't do. She also got help from the council for a stair lift and other aids (handrails) Maybe the hospital or Aged UK might be worth a start into getting him the help he needs. If you want, I'll ask her for some more details when we talk, and pass them on to you.
  14. As a much younger 'me' I didn't like either. I had the pudding as it had sixpenny pieces hidden in it! Didn't eat the pudding though. I often wonder if the older 'me' would like them. The problem is really the alcohol used in them. None of them are what I would ever drink (sherry, Brandy etc) I know a lot of people don't add the traditional booze now. I've never been one for dessert. A good starter and main does me.
  15. Great film (well, good, and quite funny in parts) With some of the kids we have today, Krampus would be far too busy! I don't blame the low profile tactics!
  16. Damn... Too slow with my 'date' and 'loo' reply!
  17. I didn't know there was something like it in place on a permanent basis. It may be a local thing, I don't know. I've seen many threads about disabled people getting the bus. I also know disabled people that couldn't get to the bus stop! It's good to hear that your friend has an option of getting out and about...even if it is a 'limited' option. I think my mate got £75 for one 7 day period off motability. I could be wrong on the numbers, but whatever it was, it helped him out for a week.
  18. You might just laugh this off, but it might have a bit of merit as an option for those on enhanced mobility side of PIP. Motability offer a 'Taxi Pass' if the car you lease is off the road and a suitable hire car isn't available. I know it's done through a 3rd party, but local taxis are used (not the 3rd party cars) It could also be argued that you get the extra PIP money, so pay the price like everyone else. The problem there is, the cash probably wouldn't get you many journeys due to the cost of a taxi. I don't think it's a 'just laugh it off' answer. I don't think a subsidised taxi service would be an easy to organise option either. I'd say it would be worth looking into in more detail.
  19. Are we on about your head, mouth, gut or ego etc? It can't be intellect! Or are we on about 'Her' or 'Lady'? Both could mean animal or human being. Which one? You got bored again...didn't you?

    Goodbye

I don't get the 'I'm going' threads at all. It's a free forum. It may not be for you at the moment, tomorrow it may be. I doubt there'd be gossip...does it really matter if there is? It always seems like cutting your nose off to spite your face. Pointless when you can just leave your account open, and return when the "No specific reason just think it is time to move on." goes away. There's always a reason, some just don't want to say.
  21. I've seen plenty of cracked ones shatter when hitting a pothole/bumps quite hard. I don't know if a crack can even be repaired, obviously best to ask 'those that do' I don't see it as taking advantage by claiming on your insurance. It's a required service you bought, and like me, probably paid more to have the extras included. I have only ever had one claim for the screen and it was done very quickly once I'd paid the excess. It clearly states on my last few schedules that it does not affect your no claims bonus (Double check yours if you decide to claim). Having a quick look at some, I can see where geared is coming from. Very odd wording about windscreens on some policies. Fully agree with the no fault rubish. I recently got reversed into by a 'White van lady'. She admitted fault, but now I have to put that I was involved in an accident. Guaranteed they will put the price up...because they can! I forgot all about Bee. I know a few people that used them years ago. None had anything bad to say about the price or service.
  22. I thought it was covered on your insurance, and doesn't go against your no claims. I know on mine it's free for a repair and £50 excess if I need a new windscreen. Have a read on your policy details and double check what it says. Another caveat may be the level of cover. I've had fully comprehensive for decades, so not sure how the other cover levels work. I can't think of any other places to try other than the big national companies.
  23. A little pedantic don't you think? It's near enough!
  24. Windows 11 doesn't run on a 'Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4130 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3400 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)' There are plenty of videos on Youtube on how to get it to run, but using the direct upgrade from Microsoft won't work. EDIT: It will run, just not upgrade as normal.
