  1. Was 3 faults, no matter how minor - around the mid to late 70's?. I think you could request a retest on a part if you asked the tester (knowing you made a mistake)

As I said, a long time ago. So probably wrong! ;)

15 mistakes does explain some of the horrendous driving I see on the roads though. I consider myself, or I'm considered a boring driver now. I stick to speed  limits, indicate and give way...you know, the normal stuff. Or is it called 'The right way'?

  2. I once went in Wilsons (The production part)

I don't have a clue how those people worked in there. I couldn't breath! I'm sure it was something they just got used to, and very much doubt if it's the same now, with new H&S rules. I went in there decades ago (maybe 2?) Definitely a menthol/mint smell, and the air was thick with the dust.

Never tried snuff. And I'm surprised it's still a thing. It may be addictive if it's a tobacco product (I didn't know it was tobacco either)

    Very good Mr. Zach.

That exercised my chuckle muscles. :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:.

Thank you Mr. Padders. Glad to see you haven't lost your sense of humour.

(Apologies for the lowercase 'P' in my first reply)

  4. I think padders got ripped to bits by a 'small man' in ASDA, and decided to write a very funny story to ease his humiliation.

Come on padders...admit it. You got mouthy and the little bloke leathered you didn't he? 😂

Yet more nanny state nonsense which doesn't do anything to solve the problem at hand. Meanwhile people still see these adverts anyway on TV and YouTube etc.

IMO, it pure deflection tactics by SCC to divert gullible eyes away from their glaring mistakes. I won't say they aren't trying to sort things, as I think they are. But while ever inexperienced people are making the big (bad) decisions, a lot more money will be wasted, and more, much needed services will be lost. Sort schools, sort council housing and repairs out properly before you're that bored, you come up with a great idea on banning things on a sign!

There seem to be a lot of those eyes on here.

But it's a forum, they are just as much entitled to their opinion as I am. Agree to disagree etc.

  6. I'm right handed, fork in left hand.

I don't give a toss about the proper way, and wouldn't have a clue if they stuck loads of knives and forks in front of me (Those meals posh folk have)

I don't see a right and wrong way. It's what way you enjoy your meal, and which way round you feel best to 'shovel' thi food in't gob ;)

  7. No problems here.

I know they got a bit picky on what you could buy via Paypal, other than that, it's very good.

They went to 2FA. Did you set that up? It might be worth logging on to https://www.paypal.com and check your settings/info.

Canal and River trust have now made it impossible for poorer people to live on the water , the moorings and licence have gone through the roof plus the upkeep of the boat , My daughter lives on her boat in York , the mooring fee 6 grand it’s for the rich now , just the same as owning a electric car or travelling by train and so on .

    That's a shame.

It was always a thought that I'd like to buy/rent and live on one...one day. I was talking to a bloke that volunteers at the small dock near Greenland Road. The numbers he was talking to buy one were eye watering. Then the cost you mention...I think I'll leave it as 'a thought'

    Did it get busy ?

At one time it did...a good few years ago. As a kid, my aunty lived on Queen Mary Rd. I think there was 4 clubs on City Rd? A sign of the times in both money and what people prefer for a day/night out. Social clubs aren't for everyone.

I drive up City Rd most Sunday mornings. Hoards of people stood outside the club there at half 11 on a Sunday morning.

    Bit common, imo.

I judge people on how they are in person, rather than driving past them.

I've mixed with the people with nothing, to the people that will never want for anything. IMO, the 'bit common' people have more often than not, turned out to be the more genuine.

  11. I was in the Arundel yesterday. A really good afternoon.

A few ladies in. Mainly men watching that strange thing on TV, I think they call it 'Football'. There will be a lot of ladies (and men) in this dinner (Sunday) It's Bingo time!

I can't comment on the pump beer/lager quality, I have bottled as my brew isn't on pump in there. The other two I was out with seemed to enjoy their pints.

The Arundel is certainly one of the better Social Clubs in Sheffield (IMO). I'm tempted to give the club in the OP a go, it looks good.

  12. At St Thomas Moore on Creswick Lane, the head was a nun called Sister Veronica. She use to whack us with a length of Hot Wheels track (that yellow plastic track)

Then on to St Peters secondary and it was the cane. I had the cane many times!

Did us no harm. And you always acted the big man, telling your mates it didn't hurt. Inside, you knew it hurt, and would rather not have the punishment again...but I did ;)

  13. I've not been in the Gardeners for years. I used to be a regular when Eddie? owned it. I don't drink bitter or any Real Ale, but I was often his tester of new ales. I seem to remember one called Ram Tam that wasn't bad. Warm, flat beer or lager isn't for me. Neither are pubs full of Music or TV's on full blast. I like an old school pub, a place you can have a pint and a chat. A bit of background TV or music is OK.

I might have to have a wander to Woodseats. It sounds like it's worth a try, going by bassetts mini review. I might also make time to nip in the Gardeners again. Fairly sure I heard it's new owners now.

I used to navigate Sheffield by pubs, as above, not many left now.

  14. I'm getting old!

I remember a night in the Limit when everyone kicked off. The bouncers ran out, the police wouldn't come in. An utter free for all.

I look at this and wonder what has happened to society? Is it so different now than it was in the 70's and 80's? I think work ethics is very different. And a gang of people attacking one person? That was a no-no in my day! One on one, no problem. A gang on one, big problem (IMO) The motive may have been theft, it may have been booze and/or drugs.

The victim may have been a right cocky git...still didn't deserve that.

I was looking for something on the internet when exactly what I wanted came up with Temu at a ridiculously cheap price.  Being a bargain lover I decided to purchase and did so on PayPal, I received conformation that payment has gone through and then a request from the actual goods supplier asking for an additional small payment, this should be made by bank debit or credit card, thus supplying the supplier with my financial details. I contacted my bank and after a long discussion they cancelled the PayPal payment in order to ‘be safe’.

The question is, was I being scammed?

You did the right thing. Listen to those little alarm bells in your head!

We all like a bargain, but not at risk of being scammed and/or your bank details ending up in the wrong hands.

  16. It got me. I think it's just on the last bit now. I'd say about ten days to now, maybe a couple more until it's near enough gone.

I'm quite lucky, I usually only get a cold (or whatever it is) every couple of years or so. This felt different. A deep and painful cough. Fairly bad headache, and just felt drained of energy.

I don't take anything for colds. But whatever you use. If it makes you feel better...go for it.

Quite a few blokes I know have got or had it too. I'm sure plenty of ladies are in the wars with it too.

On the independant opticians side, I'm wary of those now after they tried to rip off my elderly, disabled mother-in-law and charge her a fortune for fames she didn't need or want.

Through experience I've found that I buy the cheapest frames possible after the eye test, or free if your entitled to them. Make sure the glasses prescription is right for you. Then buy the ones you want to keep. There's a gamble factor doing it this way, but always getting a copy of your eye test results (including pupil distance) then buying the final ones online, does tend to save you a good few quid.
