  1. Loads of rescue dogs out there, have a look here; http://jlptrustanimalrescue.org.uk/animals-looking-for-homes/dogs-and-pups.html
  2. Not the same dog I'm afraid but I think we may have found the owner via Facebook appeal. Dog is with Chesterfield warden now, chipped but no details registered! Will update when I have further news. ---------- Post added 22-03-2017 at 15:42 ---------- Strangely, Tilly belongs to a friend of the person who found the dog today. She went straight round there when she found it but there was a very bedraggled Tilly already home! I think we're quite close to reuniting todays lost Jack Russell though. Will update later. ---------- Post added 22-03-2017 at 20:57 ---------- Dog has now been reunited with its owner.
  3. A friend has just found a female Jack Russell, black & white colourings, in Eckington woods this morning just after 10. If anyone knows of one missing please let me know and I'll pass the information on. Pictures etc to follow.
  4. “The website is not slating products - they are reviewed by a computer programme that analyses ingredients and analysis of the products (as displayed on the labels)”. FTFY Here in lies the problem with the AADF website, if a bad ingredient is not listed on the label then the computer program does not pick it up and the product does not get marked down. A quick look at some of the 5 star products shows that many fall short of adding up to 100% when you look at their listed ingredients and typical analysis. So what is missing that they are not listing? Are more honest manufacturers being penalised by this computer analysis because they list all ingredients, including the ones deemed to be bad? I guess that’s up to the dog owner to decide when they look at the site and then go away and compare products themselves. (I wouldn’t suggest “taking the website with a pinch of salt” as that will obviously reduce its rating!  ) Also; The review of the Eden product actually states that it does not suit all dogs and in fact, it causes more digestion problems than similar brands. I do not think I would risk feeding my dogs a product that has been known to cause more digestion problems than other brands, even if it is 5 star rated by AADF.
  5. I'm looking for a hi-res digital photo which shows the view across Rivelin Valley from Crookes. Needs to be good enough resolution to put on an A1 size canvas. Anyone able to help please? Thanks

  7. We could go back and forth quoting links all day couldn't we? At least you can find the information on Oscar's web pages if you want to and they show all ingredients of their food on their labels. Sites like AADF, that use a crude tool for analysing the food (eg scan the list of ingredients on the label and highlight in red the "bad" ones) penalise companies which are honest and list all ingredients. Dishonest companies that don't list all ingredients can therefore receive higher ratings. On here we can only offer our opinions based on our experience and let the OP decide what they believe is best for their dog. As long as the outcome at the end of the day is a happy healthy dog then all is good!
  8. From the Oscar website Whole-grain white rice is high in energy and low in protein. Brown rice is often perceived as the healthier option, but white rice is simply brown rice with the husk removed. Rice husks are of little nutritional value in dogs and are therefore excluded from OSCAR diets. Rice is a very digestible energy source and is used to promote a steady energy release throughout the day which also helps stabilise blood sugar levels. Rice is gluten free. Chicken digest is a commercially produced powder or liquid made by taking clean chicken tissue and breaking it down into small particles, a process called hydrolysis. The digest does not contain heads, feet or feathers except in trace amounts which are unavoidable. Digest names must accurately describe their contents, so chicken digest must be made from chicken and beef digest must be made from beef. Homogenised meats, are very palatable for all animals and this is why they are used to feed critically ill and hospitalised humans, dogs and cats. OSCAR use digests in some of their pet foods to improve flavour.
  9. 10. Here's a similar thing http://www.dogtrackernano.com/ but for dogs rather than cats though.
  11. That feeding rate seems high. We feed our staffy crosses on Oscars and they have approx. 180g per day each. they weigh around 18kg each. Also agree with ccit re the poop!
  12. +1 for Oscars, if there is a franchisee in your area (there are three in the Sheffield area) they will be happy to come out and talk to you about your dogs nutritional needs. If there isn't a franchisee then Oscar Direct can still give you nutritional advice and arrange delivery to you. http://www.oscar.co.uk 08001958000
  13. "it'd be the Staffy owner that got slated for having a dangerous dog. " I'm afraid we're suffering from this type of prejudice at the moment. We have two staffy crosses one of which does not like some larger dogs and gets a bit snappy with them. So both spend most of their time on leads when out on walks. Unfortunately there is a pedigree snobbery which seems to imply that if your dog is a pedigree then it does not need to be on lead. We are fed up of the number of bouncy labs, collies and spaniels who come bounding towards us only to be given short shrift by our two with the usual response from the owners that it's a good job that you've got them on leads! Our two would be happy to play with other dogs off lead but unfortunately we can't risk it as any boisterous play is frowned upon by the pedigree snobs!
  14. It's not so much them getting out it's the getting them in that I always had a problem with!
