  1. If I remember right - when they were tweaking duty around the time of unleaded petrol getting popular, they added 4p a litre in duty for the extra pollution from diesel ( particulates). This pulled back the difference when it was cheaper than petrol..... I could be wrong ..... it wouldn't be the first time Does anyone know if diesel is produced as part of the refining process anyway? The companies claim expense in producing diesel .... I was once told they were pouring it down old pit shafts until a certain Mr Perkins invented an engine that could run on it
  2. From Google Translate: STARTER: Ora, signor Barbieri? ASSISTENTE: Venti secondi. ... ASSISTENTE: Cinque. ... STARTER: Rilasciare gli uccelli!
  3. As a parent you have every right to be concerned and every right to ask questions. If it has helped put yours and others mind at ease then it was worth while.
  4. You are right, you never REALLY know if folk are trustworthy despite CRB checks - I've never been caught ... does that mean I am actually up to something? With Mummytwo as your user name I would assume you adore your family - but I would never really know would I? I am not for a single second making any accusation in that statement but merely illustrating a point which I hope you can see. Firstly, I no longer "watch the cameras" - my role has changed and I no longer have that responsibility. The cameras are a tool and as such are utilized when required. The physical location of the camera is not an issue - it's where the camera is pointing that matters. For example, a camera dome could be right above a toilet door, but inside the dome, the camera will be facing away in the opposite direction. Like a shop security camera, the domes look black so you cannot actually see where it is pointing. Near a cubicle doesn't mean looking into a cubicle. Like I said, just because a dome is there, doesn't mean it is looking where you think it might. Schools have a massive safeguarding responsibility with regards to their students - I would expect that camera positions will have been very carefully considered with that in mind. Looking at the way the headlines are written I think you have already answered your own question.
  5. I am not upset at all (but I thank you for the supportive post), it just makes me angry at the pitchfork wielding mob mentality of folk who really have no idea what is going on, how it's managed and assume the worst! It may come as a surprise to many, but believe it or not, the staff in schools, including non school staff, care about the kids welfare - many, many more than the (non) toilet watchers.
  6. Did I say it was you? Wind your neck in and read through the thread at other comments
  7. It's clever ( read sensationalist) headline writing at the root of all this ..... would the same emotional response come from "CCTV Cameras in schools .... and some are in rooms where there are washing and toilet facilities" ? I have been one of the responsible persons ( or perverts as some on here would believe to read their posts ) charged with looking after the system and reviewing footage when required. I am enhanced CRB checked - twice, and have had the unpleasant task of reviewing CCTV footage ..... unpleasant in the fact it is bloody boring. Access to the system was/is very strictly controlled ..... senior staff and the technicians only ..... and most of the staff didn't have the time (or the know how, if truth be told) to use the software. It is very much an "in house" system. The toilet cams don't let you "see" any more than a camera in a corridor or stairwell would let you "see", but the fact the camera was inside and not outside found vandals and bullying amongst other things. I certainly didn't get any sort of kick from looking at images and finding it extremely insulting reading the posts of some of the froth at the mouth, knee jerk commentators on here. The cameras are there for protection of everyone in the school - the footage clearing a teacher of an assault accusation by a student is proof - as is the footage that traced where a vulnerable child had run off to when they bolted from a classroom - both examples I have personally been involved with. There are far more shocking and revolting things on your kids mobile that you know nothing about ( the happy slapping, the pre-arranged ambush, the obnoxious text bullying ) than some people think is happening with CCTV in a school - I know, I've recovered the files! ( and btw with the police watching for evidential purposes ).
  8. I've just had a look at the Big Brother Watch site and a little window informs me that King Edwards here in Sheffield has 15 cameras per pupil - Guessing that the school has maybe 800 - 1000 on roll, 15,000 Cameras??? I think not - quality scaremongering! There would no room to pee in their bogs!
  9. It's mildly amusing in the assumption someone is actually watching live feed on these cameras. They record all day, everyday and no-one watches them filming the hall, the dining room or a live feed from the kids bogs! The Star's headline in particular, practically screamed cameras had been put there and only there on purpose. They will have been fitted as part of a wider security system of CCTV. They are ceiling mounted, inside acrylic domes to protect them. They are fitted, adjusted and left alone. The toilet ones point to the area just past the door and away from the cubicles, with a narrow field of view - outside of the toilets? set to grab as much of an area as possible. Whatever has happened in the school, when a parent rings up, you can place a very large wager that the first question is "have you checked the cameras?" I have never read such a sensationalist non story in my life. And yes I have kids, and no it has never bothered me
  10. Could try these? http://www.uk-local-search.co.uk/business/snowflake+%28rotherham%29+ltd/1462085/
