  1. Plus if its a combination boiler it might need the water topping up in it.
  2. What do you mean true to a certain extent ? You answer your own question in that you needed one on one lessons to gain the confidence to ride a bike. The CBT is designed to make sure you have some knowledge of the Highway Code and have mastered the basics needed to ride alone on a public road. If you've never sat on a bike until the day of your CBT or driven a car you're always going to struggle to pass the course in a day. It takes a while just to master the basic balance , clutch, sensitivity of the brakes , where the indicators are located etc. plus if you've never driven at all on public roads the hugely daunting task of riding in traffic, tackling roundabouts , cars cutting you up when you ride to slow or positioned wrong on the road. Which is why you and possibly some of the other posters in this thread found it so much easier second time round. It is expensive to pass your full bike test though these days like you said. I'm led to believe the tests are altering again soon to make it even more difficult to pass. Which to me is wrong , and some people never bother doing it but just keep re taking thier CBT's every couple of years.
  3. http://tropeiro.co.uk/welcome-to-tropeiro-sheffield It's only just opened in Leopold Square but I thought this place was fantastic when I tried it last week . If its a Sunday lunch time you are wanting to go they do special lunchtime deals.
  4. A CBT is a certificate to say you are proficient enough to ride a motorbike alone on a public road . If you couldn't master the clutch control in the practice carpark I would say the company are correct in not letting you out onto the main roads. You'd be a danger to yourself and other road users.
  5. http://www.sheffieldscooters.com/ have a look at these at Dronfield and also look at Ron Daleys at Barnsley . Two very good scooter shops. Plus if you work in town you could have a walk down to SMC down near the Wicker. They have a selection of scooters. Don't be put off riding by the parkway. You'll prob find most days you will be riding past stationary cars! Alternatively there's plenty of other routes into town avoiding the parkway.
  6. I'll echo the posts above. Do your CBT and go for a 125 cc . Modern 125's easily keep up with road traffic , are comfy and have decent brakes. I'm slightly biased but I'd recommend a Vespa ET 4. These are tried and tested scooters and you'll find it hard to find anyone have a bad word about them for everyday comuting . If this doesn't appeal to you look at Aprilla, and Honda PCX 125's. Plus , buy yourself some good gloves and brightly coloured weatherproofs , then you'll not notice the cold or wet when riding.
  7. http://www.sheffieldcityhall.co.uk/events/last-laugh-comedy-club-1-and-2-February. Try the city hall for the Last Laugh comedy club. I'd recommend this.
  8. I can't help you with the address you're after. But I did part of this tour a few years ago whilst visiting Brugge. It's one of the most interesting and humbling experiences of my life. Especially when you visit Ypres , and the museum there. Plus the commonwealth graveyards how immaculate and well kept they are.
  9. Would anyone on here know anything about a murder on this road in the late 50's , or possibly early 60's. The lady murdered was called Eillene Harrison, and she was originally from Eckington. I've tried googling , but to no avail. Or can anyone suggest how to go about finding the details out ? I'm interested because she was my late Nan's sister .
  10. Thats really clever, I'm impressed :):)
  11. I'm absolutly certain if you contacted H Harold the locksmiths and had a chat with them they would advise you exactly what you need to comply, and whats best for your needs.
  12. I think if you did you'd find your house insurance would be invalid if it didn't meet their specified standards.
  13. If you want a really good one go to Harrolds on Shalesmore like said in a previous post. Ask and take thier advice on which one to buy. Don't be tempted by cheaper ones in DIY stores or the basic ones that charities might supply. You need it to be secure ! - which also means not only the box itself , but the method you fasten it to the wall.
  14. I think it would help if you put which area of town you are from , or where you are wanting to host the event.
  15. £70 seems very cheap to me to hire a function room. The obvious places in town like the sky bar above the vodka revolution would prob be about 3 times that.
  16. I read this forum regularly and I never saw this petition on any other thread. I've just signed it. I used the airport a few times when it was up and running . It was great been able to get a 10 minute taxi ride to it from home . To Board a plane to places like Amsterdam . Hence actually arriving there within about 2 hours of leaving the house :-)
  17. yea I'd not heard of the Manc lads either till this thread. Had a look on their website and yes it appears Doncaster in febuary is the nearest they come to us. Plus they are in Wakefield in April. I think i'll get to at least one of them. Real pity they arn't doing somewhere like the Corperation in Sheffield.
  18. I can't believe no body has suggested BB's on Division St in Sheffield town centre. It's been the best Italian around for years.
  19. I'd love to see them . Where/when are they playing. It's always been a regret of mine that I never saw the Macc Lads live.
  20. I'm really pleased you enjoyed it and wasn't put of by some of the rediculous negative posts some folk had put on this thread.
  21. Is there anywhere you can sign in support of the new proposed glass pyramid which I think looks fantastic. I can't get my head round why anyone thinks that this drab Edwardian building , or Sheffield markets buildings, are in any way contributing to a modern , forward thinking city. They just hold us back.
  22. I'm assuming it would be EJ from Eckington. He ran a mini bus and charged 50 pence per person to go between Shambles, Crofts (ridgeway Arms nowadays ) , the old Mill at halfway , and Bluebell at Hackenthorpe, and Shirwood at frechville. Indeed happy days !
  23. Can I suggest you go down to the okey cafe on Abbydale road. It's also the gathering place for a lot of the scooter lads in Sheffield. There's a lot in their 60's still attend ( on scooters ). Alternatively look on Facebook under 'south yorkshire mod society' and 'the proper yorkshire mods group' . A lot are on there.
  24. ECCoonoob I couldn't agree more with you. I actually pity some of the folk that have contributed to this thread. Sheffield is a fantastic place for varied nightlife. I work with so many people that stop in every weekend and the only contribution they can put forward to conversations on Monday mornings at work is what happened on X factor, come dancing etc. True York and Leeds have alternative scenes. Nothing approaching the scale of Sheffields though. York is good for its river bars, Leeds as got a few glitzy bars. Manchester and Newcastle are the only ones I'd say to anyone are worth having a regular overnight weekend away for.
