  1. There was also one at the junction of Thorpe House Avenue and Warminster Road blocking the junction. It seemed large to me, and rectangular.... we used to throw lighted bangers in there
  2. Early drinking ... Big Tree Woodseats, Prince of Wales, Derbyshire Lane. .... Progressed to the Old Harrow, jazz nights there... Later on The South Seas and the Fox and Duck at Broomhil. The Sportsman and the Three Merry Lads just for starters !!
  3. I remember reading about her in "The Star". If I remember rightly she lived in a tent somewhere on the slopes of Mam Tor.
  4. The council in their wisdom stocked the fish tank with a wonderful variety of fish. One of which was a black predatory species. That fish eventually consumed all the others and grew to enormous size. Not sure what it lived on after it ate the other fish........ but the the missing persons list was expanding at the time
  5. Used to live a short distance from them, and they did repairs on my cars (the bits I couldn't do myself) in the 60's and 70's
  6. Hi Karen, I remember the baths ... I was at Sheffield University from 1957-62 and a member of the University swimming club, and used to play water polo. At lunch times we either trained speed or distance swimming at Glossop Road baths or came down to Upperthorpe where we were allowed to use a water polo ball, and spent an hour or so churning up the pool!! I do remember winter or summer the water was always very warm. No photo's I am afraid, but fond memories of the place.. Yours Sincerely, Bill Lee. PS, I am Sheffield born and bred, lived all my working life there, but now retired and living in Norfolk.
