  1. I used to be in a band with Peter (their old guitarist). He's always had a knack for a good tune. Big boots to fill!
  2. you can probably get some off the b****rd who's just nicked my brother's!
  3. I agree mate...it's definately more garlicky & not as nice because of it. Noticed around the same time as you as well
  4. @Zakes...thats horrible-******** like that would be locked up these days
  5. ...aren't the government proposing not to send people who carry knives to jail? If so, expect more of this. So, rather than focussing just on the race of the attackers, surely the first thing we should be asking is why is this happening in the first place? If it turns out that there are cultural reasons for knife carrying then we shouldnt shy away from debate about that part of the issue for fear of being labelled bigotted-or worse!
  6. ha ha...she didnt see that one coming then! Genius! Why do people believe this stuff? Surely its about profiting from people's hopes and fears?
  7. All these idiots are doing is using snow as an excuse to legitimise bullying and intimidatation. The idea that "its only snow", so that makes it ok to abuse people, just doesnt wash. If it wasnt winter and they were chucking rocks/stones/clods of soil, it wouldnt be ok would it?
  8. @Joe_b_1; it's still a work in progress, but i have worked with a kid before who everyone refused to teach & the union was involved for that. The big irony was, his mum was head of SEN (Special Educational Needs) at the same school!!!
  9. Some kids have always done this sort of thing, not necessarily because they're malicious, but because they don't (or can't) think through the risks or potential consequences. I'm a secondary teacher & recently one of our kids threw a stone at, & hit, a motorcyclist on the helmet (!). Bizarrely the motorcyclist was a colleague at school so the kid was easilly identified. Guess what...we can't expel him! You couldn't make it up.....
  10. Yep, Threads still stands up today as a good piece of drama - it's also very, very bleak. Rhys Dinsdale was in it & it features genuine clips from the governments Protect & Survive public information material about what to do in the event of a nuclear attack. Leaflets were printed & little tv information films were made but never screened..thank f**k as they're really, really scary! If you google 'Protect & Survive', you'll find the archive - worth a look!
  11. spot on crookesey. It's all about nostalgia...looking back to a time when you had little or no responsibility, ie your childhood. I grew up in the 80's in Sheffield & i've many, many fond memories of it, but pollitically it was a shocking decade. Cold War, nuclear proliferation, recession, mass unemployment, the Thatcher years & the miner's strike which (on it's own)changed the social & political landscape of this country for ever. There's some serious pairs of the ol' rose tinted being looked through on this thread....maybe that's the point though! The big difference these days seems to be an all pervading lack of respect & simmering aggression...
  12. @Freyadad1973..they axed the show in '89 & it didn't come back until 2005 ! That means your doctor was Chris Eccleston!
