You say no one is dumb enough to do it with it turned on but I'll put money on the fact there is plenty of people dumb enough to do just that. Also the main dc filter cap will hold charge for a wee while and may not kill a fit adult but is going to hurt. Telling people on a forum who you don't know to take apart a TV and fix it is stupid. You don't know the skill set of the person, you don't know if they are electrically safe they probably don't even know what a capacitor does! My advice would be to spend time learning first before jumping into things, as in for an hobby or to make ends meet not to fix your TV that you know doubt want fixing asap

Actually most often it's not the large filter cap infact when messing with them I never found one of those to be bad. It's most often the capacitors on the output that fail....and really it could be anything and not just that caps can and do fail often without any signs you will then need at least an ESR meter to test them.

Nobody tends to bother with them because if its not an easy fix like a bad cap the person fixing it will have to buy a new board to replace the broken one, by the time you have paid for parts and labour you could have bought a new TV...does depend on the value of the TV of course.

That's fine if your car is designed to run on both or just 95 but if not then you run the risk of damaging your car like geared said "hole in piston" or lifted cylinder head because the ignition timing will be too far advanced for 95 petrol as well as other changes in the maps on the ECU. The guy who uses it on highspeed runs only is wasting money if the car was not designed for it then you will not really gain anything...
