  1. what a load of rubbish!! i was not going to waste my time with a reply on this, but i think its terribly insulting to those decent people in the area who do shop there, yes its a deprived area of sheffield, yes there is a few hoodies and unsavoury characters, but on the whole its full of decent hard working sheffielders who deserve better than these comments. alcoblog clearly lives in a bubble in crookes thinking they are far superior to the rest of us, shame on u!!
  2. Splish splosh childrens swimming lessons has just moved venue to the mercure st Paul in Sheffield , for anyone using them please beware about your Childs safety, or lack of it! Have been using splish splosh very happily for a few months but today was very disappointed after they moved to mercure hotel, only 1 adult instructor was there in the pool, parents are not permitted to wait with the kids by the pool before the lesson starts, if u have a 5 year old child that can't swim would you leave them unattended with no armbands and no supervision at the side of the pool? How on earth can the instructor be teaching 5 children in the pool and be keeping an eye on the next 5 kids waiting at the pool side? There was no register, the instuctor never asked my Childs name, he could have been anyone, and when we picked him up no check was made who was collecting them, anyone can get access to this pool , in fact the pool was being used by adult hotel guests at the same time, very shocking lack of care, very rude staff at hotel who wud not let u keep an eye on ur child while u waited, never never again, I advise anyone using this to think very carefully about ur Childs safety and go elsewhere .
  3. Hi , Im a store manager for a store In sheffield City centre and have been for 6 years now, intially I was happy for anyone to use the toilet, however in the last 2 years there has been a sudden build up of teenage kids hanging around the city centre, they dont buy anything, they are not there to shop, they just stand around. We have been forced to place locks on the doors after finding needles, used condoms and blood in the toilets and now toilets are strickly customer only. I can undestand why people are so frustrated, however customers expect a clean toilet in a store and when its being used by 350 people a day, 280 of which are not your customers, and 40 of which use it for needles/sex etc it becomes too expensive to be cleaning them every 5 mins! Please dont rely on shops/ bars/ cafes and instead petition the local council, or buy something from the shop, this then helps us put staff on to keep them clean for you! No one wants dirty grotty toilets, but they cost money to maintain and keep clean, its not fair to expect to be able to use any establishments toilets without buying something and thus contributing to there upkeep.
  4. It closes on the 7th March and will reopen as a Tesco later in the year, the co-op had to sell the store as it already has a store on arbthourne
  5. Just to clarify, the train station IS a franchise, not owned by Starbucks, also suggestion that Starbucks plans to open 5 more is rubbish, there are no plans for more stores. Also Starbucks do sell Fairtrade coffee and DONT charge extra for it because its actually cheaper to buy than the price they pay farmers for espresso roast, they also sell fairtrade cakes, choc bars etc. By the end of the year all espresso roast will be Fairtrade in Starbucks, it is currently being certified as we speak. People like to complain about Starbucks as its American and a premium brand, but has anyone stopped to realise Sheffield has more Carphone warehouse, Tesco and Greggs outlets than Starbucks? How often do people complain about them? How much charity work do they do for our community?
  6. ive noticed last years fargate lights are on the moor, so at least fargate has been treated to some new lights. I think there ok, with problems like city lofts and sevonstone I doubt the council has made them a top priority this year
  7. I work at Starbucks , and would like to settle this!! Everyone is welcome, as long as they treat the others around them in a respectfull manner. If you want to come in and do uni work, as long as you buy a drink thats fine, if you want to use your laptop, either for wifi or work, as long as you buy something thats fine too. Groups of kids messing about, and ppl not buying anything will be asked to leave. Tables are and always will be first come basis, if someone is at a table alone with 4 seats ask if you can have a spare seat! Its true that in afternoons the stores get very busy and it can be hard to find a table, but thats why they are opening a new store in 2 weeks time. You all need to respect each other, regardless of background, each person uses and enjoys the stores in there own way. Now come on Sheffield, working together makes it a much happier place. END RANT........
  8. I have worked for starbucks in the past, the issue with bottles is that the stores do not have microwaves, everything is delivered fresh daily. As such the only way to heat a bottle or food is standing it in hot water. With insurance, they are covered for the use of mugs as a beverage, using the mugs for any other purpose than drink would invalidate the cover. You can always ask at the till and they will pop it into a jug at the bar for you to collect when its ready. You have to remeber, if you were waiting for a drink in starbucks, and somone with a jug or mug full of boiling water knocked into you and scalded you, how would you feel? The mugs are not large enough to hold a bottle and water and so become a risk. Unfortunatley we live in an age where ppl make a claim for the slightest thing, and companys have to protect themselves and there other customers
  9. Are there any local groups i.e bookgroups, chess groups, mothers groups etc that would be interested in the free regular use of a city centre venue from October 2008? please get in touch!!
  10. I do not disregard anyones views, the views of ppl living on parklands is the most important, but you must remember that the vast majority of houses are still to be built, as the area grows and more ppl move in it will become less rich pickings and become a community itself. I have heard a number of views from ppl, the most worrying are houses being stoned, however so far i have been told these are ppl that went out to tell kids off instead of leaving it to the police. An area is what you make it, and i would urge everyone on Parklands to stop feeling sorry for themselves and get together to help prevent this sort of crime.
  11. I am currently buying a house on the parklands development due for completion Jan 07 , I have read all the threads , in some cases i nearly changed my mind and looked elsewhere, all i can say is that different ppl are having very different experiences. This area is not lodge moor but i wouldnt say its Beruit either. I have visited this area early in the morning, late at night after midnight, weekends and school holidays, the worst i have ever seen is a few kids on mopeds on the park, leave them alone and they will leave you alone. As for car crime, this does seem to be a problem but mainly for those leaving things on display, my advice is to buy a house with a garage and use it! Although a garage is not going to prevent car crime ( if they realy want to get in they will) but when there are hundreds of cars parked on the street in the area there far less likely to go to the trouble of breaking into your garage. Its only a choice you can make for yourself, no one can say for certain you wont have a bad experience. As for the future you can visit the sheffield city council website and see the masterplan for future developments in the manor park area, lots of new housing develpments, you may just find the price of your house increasing in a few years! Take your pick!
  12. Hi everyone, I am just wanting to pick your brains about parklands, i am currently looking at buying a property here, well a choice of 2 , one is inside the complex the other backs straight on to manor park where the so called funky railings are, is the manor park really that bad? whats the noise like? car crime etc? i would be really interested to hear from ppl living there at the moment, are you still happy you moved? thanks folks .
  13. I have been told in the past that Marks And Spencer was very intrested in the old petrol station site. They offered a considerable some to buy the lease and wanted to open a m n s supermarket , however the owner declined.
  14. I would like to make a few points to you all who continue to air there negative views surrounding starbucks! Firstly starbucks is a choice if you dont like it you dont go in! Thousands of people call into a store in the uk every day to drink what is a fine quality beverage, starbucks could not have grown so rapidly serving rubbish. Many of you seem focused on the negatives but what about the positives? new jobs , new investment , support for local charity And why all this moaning about there being 2 or 3 stores in sheffield , there are 2 costa coffee shops within 5 mins walking of each other in the city centre but i never see them mentioned! Pick up a leaflet in store and you will find they pay more for there coffee that any1 else , they have dedicated farmers and only want the best quality , and are willing to pay a premium in order to get it , suppliers are looked after and paid a fair price. Everyone has there own taste but you really should stop knocking something you dont understand , particually those thinking the name was derived from battlestar gallactica! I suggest you look it up!
