  1. mmm, tried with the default size, but the filesize is too big for this forum, so tried a resized version, however their conversion process made it into a single image. I've used GIMP to resize it. But because there are 13 frames, numerous colours and not much patterning, I had to take it down to 27 x 27 pixels, and as you can see it's a bit too small... The process to resize was really easy... Once GIMP was installed, I opened the original file. It opened with lots of layers, don't be dismayed. Next I went to 'Image' -> 'Resize Image', in here I entered a new width size and clicked 'Scale'. To save a copy I clicked 'File' -> 'Save a copy', then entered a file name, then selected the 'Save as animation' option and clicked 'Export', then I just accepted the following default options and clicked 'Save'. Done... Open in a browser to check. I will leave that avatar for a cup of coffee or so, before I find one for me... NB: For those like me who hate annoying animated gifs distracting you whilst reading, just press 'Escape' and they all stop... Yes you have to do this on every page... Otherwise there is some setting somewhere in each browser, but that's another thread topic...
  2. To start with it wasn't very annoying, then it started to be, then went banal, now it looks like it's sorted itself out... http://www.comodo.com/home/download/download.php?prod=cis I still install it for people, but when they complain that it slows their computer down I say, that's not really it's fault all Windows AV & Firewall software will, it's a the fault of Microsoft starting off with a bad design (they preferred usability over security, but that's also why it so widely used, a monkey could hack it). Always my advice is, use Linux...
  3. No, he was a very nice lad, had manners, was polite. In my opinion, his only real downside was the fact that he was religious (which allows people to stop at the first answer, whether it's right or wrong, makes sense or not). But yes, i've never met a nice Somalian at a bus stop! (Not a racist comment, just an observation)
  4. Seriously? Even Q needs a place to sit, <REMOVED> and sleep... On another note, that's my favourite trek... Just for the rendition of "Row row your boat", and because of it being a trek, it makes you think of the song in very different terms... Merrily, merrily, life is but a dream!
  5. First time I quit (after trying many many methods), I was taking Prozac (Fluoxitine). I lasted two years (until a very strong influence got me smoking weed again, which led back to cigs...) This time, i'd just been injured and was taking some prescribed pain killers, virtually slept for two days, nicotine was then out of my system, after that I just believed I could live without smoking. Both the first time (for 2-3 years) and now, I still crave a cig, I know I always will, but i'm a non smoker now and prefer my life without that bad habit... Once the addiction is gone, it's all down to you and your self belief, and you know you can do it, just because you want to... ;-) p.s. I smoked for nearly 20 years before quitting the first time...
  6. LOL Not four years ago I ended up doing some sort of NVQ thing and was sat next to this lad, dunno what teacher said (but it was mathy, something to do with Moon landing), and he said to me "it's not true, they've never been to the Moon, how could they, they'd have to pass through heaven and that's impossible, only God can let you into heaven". I don't want to say it, but mmm, he was a Muslim (technically a nice lad, even though his cousin was the one who fled back to Somalia after shooting PC Beshenivsky). He said his Iman told him that it was US propaganda. And yes I just had to ask where hell was!!!
  7. God, beliefs, religion etc, are OUR answers to questions we had / have no chance of explaining (Mommy, why does that man wear the funny tie). We used and repeated the beliefs which gave us the most comfort or reward. Eventually 'scholars' gathered this 'intel' and used it to inform and guide us. Some eventually (probably from beginning) hid this knowledge and used it for them selves and to control others (as seen in periods of religious history, e.g. Wiki(D), etc). Let's face it, it's one of the reasons why I prefer Protestantism over Catholicism (don't get me wrong, i'm not into religion of any sort), because he translated the bible so the common man could read it (ref: wiki), for centuries only monks and such like were allowed to read it, surely no God would make that differentiation. Oh my GOODNESS, I don't even know what i'm waffling for, I may just go out and take some shots of the moon... is it cloudy out?
  8. Religion is the belief in and worship of a god or gods, or a set of beliefs concerning the origin and purpose of the universe. Good ol' Wiki
  9. An insurmountable problem, but if you had precise a enough mathematical model then you could build a (particle) system which could in theory go back to before the big bang and beyond (foreyond? ooh I hoped that'd be in the dictionary!). Second thoughts, there are probably too many one way functions and cascades to ... but then again ... if you extrapolate and find the correct end result then the jigsaw piece fits (mmm maybe for a few hundred years anyway) ... This'd put the Chinese Lottery concept to shame in terms of computing power though, more like need a few binary based galaxy class processors... (now in the voice of Homer Simpson) mmm ...
  10. mmm, and Christianity is based on Judaism and Islam is just an extension of Christianity, all the same really but with a few more clauses appended...
  11. I was wondering how to set up a new religion the other day, one without a God, but soon realised that religions are really just governments in disguise (and in reality work better than governments, because it becomes 'Raison d'être'). The only problem with all current religions is that their belief based (including Scientology, even though it has a nice name). Can someone please make a truly scientific belief system based on solid scientific principles. (You know something which you can't defeat with a statement such as, 'well who made God in the first place?')
  12. Not even going to read anything but the title of this one... NO It's made by Apple (their even worse than Microsoft)
  13. And there must have been something before that... Ad infinitum... And what is this nothing we're expanding in to? Nothing is surely something..! mmm, I had to watch it again, hence knowing the link. A lot to take in the first time...
  14. I may slate the TV license fee at times, but a single program episode like that is worth over 100 billion episodes of 'Strictly Come Dancing', 'Master Chef' and the such like... Hey i've got an idea, at the next budget why don't we cut most science research projects as well as University funding... Brilliant! We'll be there in no time!
  15. Did you see this? What happened before the big bang? http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00vdkmj/Horizon_20102011_What_Happened_Before_the_Big_Bang/
  16. Conjures many scary thoughts of Blade Runner and 3 Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch, (Both books by P. Dick). Colonising another planet will be an unbelievably daunting task... Many thanks for the link though...
  17. I'm not sure, I just saved madowl's avatar (nasty thing that it is), and uploaded to sheffieldforum and it worked fine. I'd suggest you try the same to check the process. If that one works then it may be the format of your animated gif. For instance if the website needs to resize it, it may just convert it to a single image, I know the way I wrote my site it works like that (if within size params (and right image type) then leave, else resize and convert to largest allowable still image). Waffle, waffle, waffle... If so try resizing and saving locally on your PC, otherwise find another image... ? Can you show me where to find it online and i'll give it a try (or convert) for you...
  18. If it's getting here then it's already loaded a load of stuff into RAM! If your not doing anything intensive (3d game, CAD, heavy graphics, crypto, etc...) you'll not notice any speed up. You might notice a tiny slowing down with just 1GB, because Win7 requires about 1GB of RAM minimum. When concerning RAM (ignoring type and buses) the only difference is when it pages / swaps out (e.g. fakes RAM on the HDD), especially (lol, extra billionth of a sec) if not set a pre-fixed size.
  19. Have you tried to open with a web browser locally? Most graphics apps will load into layers and not animate (because it's open for editing).
  20. mmm, me interested in what to use instead of a trusty copy of ol' Knoppix? Unformatted HDD? But surely the first few times you tried to log in it wasn't because you stated it went through basic startup, right up to where lsass would kick in... (not heard of this version of a lsass virus though)
  21. mmm, I follow all those guidelines... Only extra guideline (when discs not in wallet), leave shiny side up. (Was printed on an old Bob Dylan CD cover, and I virtually never get scratches!) But still some photo backup discs that were less than 2 years old have gone kaput... (I don't grow an iso for stuff like that, and I use K3B generally for burning) I haven't got around to trying dd yet to see if it's only the FAT that's been corrupted, or not. edit: Cheers
  22. Shorter version of post!!! Title was too short and on clicking back, all post was lost! DVD dye splits within only a couple (few) years... (Should use CD's but currently have none)... Should I write DVD's at slowest or fastest speed?
