My over-long post boils down to "If you choose to use smaller roads, please use lower speeds". "I've paid my tax I can do what I like" is a bit of a "Kevin the Teenager" response, isn't it ?

Do any forum members dare to admit being one of these people .... ? Every evening rush hour, loads of drivers head from Walkley Library down Parsonage Street/Parsonage Crescent to get to Walkley Bank Road. Probably thinking to save about a minute off the time it would take to go via the corner at the Florist. Judging by the queue to get onto WBR, I doubt if it works. Is it you ??? Of course, having gone to the bother of doing this, you need to prove what a time saver it is, so you have to get to Walkley Bank Road as quick as poss (wouldn't it be annoying to get to WBR and find you had to stop to give way to someone who had been behind you at the Library!!!). It's just a pity that Parsonage Cresent and Parsonage Street are really too narrow for through traffic, but at least slaloming between parked cars at top speed is good fun innit ? - the local kids and mums with prams just have to get out of the way, don't they? And anyone walking along Parsonage Crescent who holds you up for two seconds by crossing the top of Parsonage Street at anything less than a run just deserves to get hooted and sworn at, don't they ? .... wait a bit .... You're not a driver ALL the time, are you ? How about a father or mother, or just a nice considerate person when you aren't behind the wheel ? Bet you do all you can to protect YOUR kids, don't you ? How would you react to heedless drivers from another part of town rocketing down your surburban street ? Think a bit. Is it REALLY a considerate and reasonable thing to do to use an inappropriate suburban street to use as a main through road, trying to save a few seconds off your journey home ? And if you think it is, surely you'll admit that a responsible person like your self should really drive at a sensible speed for the narrow road (20mph max). Some people reading this will say "Yeah!, I'm one of 'em, and I don't give a t**s." Well, I didn't post this for their benefit - they know what they are and are proud of it (whatever decent people think of them) and won't change their behaviour unless they think they'll get something out of it. I just hope that enough decent people will read this to make a bit of a difference. Don't wait for the next "boy killed running out between parked cars" story in the Star before you change your mind (or it might be your name in the paper). --- Or DOES any idiot out there want to claim that they are proud of being a ratrunner ?

Walkley - Where's the amplified music coming from?
ChrisS6 replied to ChrisS6's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
It's gone now. I overlook Hillsborough Park - it was probably there. Not feeling at all wound up by moronic "parties can do what they like" comment. Well, obviously I am ! Lovely and quiet now. Not even one of those new moronic plastic football trumpets ! -

It's fireworks now. Can this be legal? It's a warm night, and I don't see why I should have to shut my window. -
Is Coop at Crookes worst shopping experience ever?

Getting silly now - nearly half-11. Where's it coming from ? Not Hillsborough Park is it ? -
Co-ops aren't all bad. The Somerfield by the Town Hall has improved a lot since the Coop took over.

Brantwood Independent School for Girls gone bust
ChrisS6 replied to Anarchon's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Comprehhensive schools are free to teach by ability groupings, it's called "setting" by subject. Better than streaming because you get the right teaching in each subject - not just lumped together for all purposes as brainy, ordinary, dim, and Rotherham. Comprehensives don't do streaming, quite rightly. But I don't know if any Sheffield comprehensives schools do setting ? -
Ah. Thought you were talking to me. Thanks for the recommendation - I'll stop off next time. Do you know when they are open till?

And Atkinsons still has a "proper" department store restaurant. Everywhere else is either rough as chuff or poncey food at Fulwood prices (in an unattractive setting - you know who you are). And it sells fizzy Vimto and puts out bottles of Hendersons.

Your'e welcome I'm sure. Er, what are you thanking me for ?

West Street, Cole Brothers, next to Atkinsons...
