  3. Hi I am looking for a dance class fr my Youngest to start in January, after school on Mondays or Fridays. We live in Hillsborough , so would like something local and not nega expensive or what is going to be expecting her to work towards grading etc at such a n early age. If anyone has any suggestions- let me know!!!
  4. i used to go to the marlcliffe one and its great, but, doesnt work when you have kids to put to bed, 8pm would be much better!!
  5. As the person has said above, many private nurseries do not offer term-time only places andthefore may still charge you for the place, even if you choose not to send your child during holidays. The theory been that they have to keep the place open for your child and could instead offer it to a child whom needs/wants year-round care. The other thing to consider (although im fairly sure this wouldnt equate to the amount you are still having to pay) is many nurseries, not only private ones, ask for additional amounts to cover meals and snacks, this can become quite costly and may explain the additional amount you are paying. If the nursery provides home cooked meals, it often isnt an option to opt out of them if your child is present at the mealtime and send a pack up instead. Hope this helps.
  6. we never recieved our daughters form, so it is possibly better to chase it up if you would prefer to do paper copy. we just did it online, its much easier
  7. My youngest, who was three months early, turned four in June, she started school last monday. Had she have come on time, she would have only just been having her birthday this weekend, so wouldnt have started school till next year. We had the option to wait until her corrected year, leave it until Jan12 or stars this sept, we decided that sept was the best option as, although she is one of the youngest and does have global development delay she could still benefit from a full year in reception. When my older daughter started schol, the old rules still applied, her birthday is feb so she just go into the sept intake, I was so glad as they children who started in Jan took so much longer to catch up, not just in academics but in settling, friendships etc. I personally think that we have been given too much choice now, what with been able to send them part or full time too. in my opinion all children should start full time in september in the academic year that they will turn 5. No matter when the school year starts, you are always going to have children who have their birthday first and are the oldest and those that have to wait till the end and are the youngest.

  11. After reading this post, I feel compelled to reply. I think it is important that the person posting and various people whom have replied consider that not all children are the same. My daughter will be starting school in September and cannot do many of the things you have mentioned. I am a very competent parent and spend the majority of every day with my daughter, getting her ready for school. However, it may be important to point out that she is still actually three and will not turn four until mid-june- like many of the children whom will start school in September. She was also born 13 weeks prematurely and had a brain-bleed and many subsequent long-stays in hospital as a result of having Chronic-Lung disease. This has now resulted in her having Global development delay needing Physio and regular visits to see her various hospital consultants. The reason I am telling you this is it really angers me when people 'presume' that all children whom aren't exactly where they should be developmentally must have been dragged up by rubbish parents- this is an extremely narrow minded attitude and one we have encountered regularly since our daughter came home. Personally, I am more concerned that my daughter can settle in well and make friends in her reception year at school, there will be plenty of time for academic excellence!
