  1. There was also some beer in the milk crates ! Stranger than fiction ???
  2. Going to work this morning I saw dumped on the pavement on Old Fulwood Road about 20 crates of milk plus Orange Juice etc. At lunchtime it was still there ! Rumours are that the milk float had been Hijacked - driver robbed ?? Anyone in the know about this one ChrisM
  3. On my way home last night I was delighted to see that a new bus stop had appeared as if by magic on Heavygate Road (new Stagecoach route) Thanks to all other 52 route passengers who complained too. And thanks for the call from a lovely lady at SYPTE today who informed me that the stop was up and running. By the way it is a PROPER stop - long pole and sign ! not a concrete block. Just hope the drivers stop at it ?? Cheers Chris
  4. Yes he was in the group along with Jaquie Mc Shee , Terry Cox and John Renbourne. I think. I was not a big folk fan but went along with a workmate who raved about them.
  5. Amazed to see the re -formed Pentangle folk group on BBC2 last night. Anyone recall the time they appeared at The City Hall - it was as superb concert. 1969 ?? Cheers Chris
  6. The bus goes up Heavygate Rd on it's way to town. The old route was via the Mainline one up Heavygate Avenue (The bus loop to Crookes Terminus) The old route took in two bus stops - the new one has none - as yet. This is causing problems for old folk in particular . SYPTE told me yesterday that a stop should have been put up at the weekend - they are looking into it. The Stagecoach bus driver told me this morning that the stop was not going to happen due to the bend in the road ?? I also heard that people are unaware of the changes and are waiting for buses that are never going to come. Just a little notice on the two affected stops would have been a good idea. Living on a prayer Chris
  7. Rang PTE - they are supposed to be ringing me back - lets face it even a sign on a concrete block will do !
  8. I would have expected more concern from the bus operator seen as it could mean they lose passengers. Thanks anyway PTE next stop Chris
  9. The Stagecoach 52 route to town from Hillsbro has been re- routed via Heavygate Rd - fine - but they have forgotten to put bus stops on this new stretch of route. Had to walk quarter of a mile to find an existing stop. Complained to driver - nothing to do with me mate ! Rang Stagecoach to complain - nothing to do with us sir ! I give up
  10. Remember the Night Club at the Wednesday Ground. Had some good times there in the Seventies. Before the match on Saturdays - Stripper and Comedian and some good groups in the evenings. Best night I had there was when the group The Real Thing ("You to Me Are Everything" - UK No. 1 Summer 1976) appeared. It was just before they made it big, we had never heard of them at the time. They were brilliant singing all the old Motown Stuff. Yard of ale contests were a farce at Sat lunchtimes - very messy ! Great Days
  11. I started this thread a few years ago - great to see the recent comments. Only last week I dusted off a demo Willie Mitchell LP I remember getting from Violet . I seem to recall I got it for less than a quid. Great days Chris
  12. Listened for first half hour - two Blades were about to swear but just managed to control themselves - must have kicked off later then ?
  13. Thanks Hutch, I can now see the letters above the shop in red. Spent hours in there listening to Stones,Beatles ,Searchers etc Cheers Chris
  14. I recall back in the sixties there was an electrical shop in Hillsborough that also sold records (In the times when you listened to a record before you bought it - in a record booth) Can anyone else remember it ,and its name ? Near where the present Woolies is. Chris
  15. Thanks everyone - Rattle of a Simple Man sounds familiar - must have seen that one. I think the production I saw must have been a touring company and not the Playhouse team due to John Gorman's inclusion. Chris
  16. Hi Shelby - Thanks for that, although it is not ringing too many bells - I think the one I saw was more of a black comedy. I was in the school drama group and we often got a party booking for the Playhouse. I do remember - Under Milk Wood - Stirrings in Sheffield and any Shakespeare play that was on that season . There must be a list of Playhouse Productions somewhere !
  17. I remember as a teenager going to the Playhouse to watch a production that starred one of the Scaffold pop group. I think it was John Gorman (the bald one) I recall Gorman came out on stage at the interval and started kicking a football into the stalls - the audience kicked or threw it back to him - much to my amusement. I can remember this but not the title of the production ? Must have been around 1967 Anyone out there remember this ?
  18. I certainly would not have liked to spend any time on the boat other than in a calm sea. I think it was called Ocean 7.
  19. Lots of publicity about the Pirate Radio stations in the mid sixties this week. 40 years since they were declared illegal. The best reception in this area was from Radio 270 moored off the east coast. I was in my mid teens at the time and to be able to listen to pop music ALL DAY was incredible. The amount of pop music played on BBC Radio at the time was minimal. I had a little tranny and it went all over with me. One of the Radio 270 DJs Paul Burnett still does a stint on Classic Gold . Any one else recall 270 ?
  20. The SUT coaches were painted red apart from the coach that was contracted to carry the Sheff Wed Team - That was painted BLUE with the SUT logo in the usual places. The fans had to travel in the red coaches but a few blue and white banners etc. made it feel better !
  21. Remember the Top Rank Suite when it opened in the late sixties. Tickets for Christmas Eve/New Years Eve were like gold. The place was packed and the atmosphere was great. "You're Ready Now" by Frankie Valli always reminds me of the Rank from Christmas 1970. Great Days
  22. SWFC Have sacked Paul Sturrock Welcome Gary Megson ?
  23. Pete Swan will always be a hero to me despite the Ipswich incident. As a kid I lived on the next road to Swany, Don Megson lived in the other club house. Although I can't recall exactly - but most of the younger kids on the street played on some spare ground on Wood Lane (Myers Grove). Swany was walking by one day and he stopped to talk to us and watched us have our kickabout. He suggested it would be interesting if we could play on a full size pitch. He arranged to take us up to a pitch at Loxley one Sunday (I think most of us crammed into his car) It was brilliant - the England Centre Half taking out -2/3 hours to coach us on a full size pitch. We were devastated to say the least - when the news broke some time after. But I remember how good it felt to see him take the pitch again for the Owls in the 70's against Fulham (In stripes again) Swany in his prime made it look so easy !!! Best Wishes to Swany and his family. Chris M
  24. I remember going to the last ever show at The Empire. I was only a kid and I went with my gran. I recall it was a variety show of some sort and it was heavily sponsored by some local firm (Bachelors springs to mind- but could be wrong) Anyone else remember this show ? Chris
  25. Can someone tell me why First buses have warm air blasting out all day. It is summer - is it not . I presume there is a ON/OFF switch on the bus somewhere !!! Cheers Chris
