  1. Brandi De Frank appeared on the Sweeney as a stripper. In the episode entitled "Supersnout" First shown on 15/9/75 Brandy must be in or around 60 now ! Wonder if she's still on the circuit ? Cheers Chris
  2. I remember one of the strippers who performed on one Saturday Lunchtime appeared on the SWEENEY the following week - as a stripper of course.
  3. Tickets for New Years Eve at The RANK were like gold in the early years. Best memory was going to see The SMALL FACES perform in the late Sixties. They were only on for about an hour but they were brilliant - with Steve Marriot in fine form.
  4. Chas and Dave have called it a day - today. Is my mind going or did they actually appear at The Sheffield Show one year. I seem to recall RABBIT booming across Hillsborough Park - must be a few years back. Was anyone there ? Cheers Chris
  5. Yes I agree the Juke Boxes fascinated me as a kid. There was so little pop music played on radio that it was often the only way of hearing the latest releases. Cheers
  6. Anyone with memories of this coffee bar down Hillsbro. Can just remember going in with my parents on Sat mornings back in Sixties. Did they have a juke box - or was that another place in the area ?
  7. I was at the game on the Kop with the Forest fans - I remember looking at the Liverpool end at kick off and wondering why it was not full - all the Forest fans were in the ground at 3.00 with only a few late comers still outside. I was at the Owls v Everton semi at Villa Park a few years earlier - the police had a filter system on the roads leading to the ground - if you had no ticket you could not even get near the turnstyles . If Only !!
  8. Thanks for the replies folks - I think the original Motown Revue was a few years earlier. This concert was held when the stars were established in the UK. The City Hall was full - the review concerts were poorly attented. Would have loved to have seen Bowie - bet that was awesome. Saw a lot of Motown acts at the Fiesta - Four Tops , Junior Walker etc. Booker T did a concert at the City Hall with Blue Mink on the same bill around 1970 - that was a good one. Cheers Chris
  9. After watching the Motown 50 programmes on TV I was trying to recall a concert I attended at the City Hall in the late sixties . Stevie Wonder and Martha and The Vandellas were on the bill - the place was shaking with everyone up on their feet dancing and singing. But who else was on the tour with them. Can anyone remember ? Chris
  10. Thanks for that info doc. Never heard of the Leavers though. One thing that sticks in my memory - a PE teacher called Dubberly - he was a bit of a bully and got his payback in the staff/pupils rugby match - some kind soul punched him in the stomach and he was doubled up for about 5 mins - great days !!!
  11. People keep telling me it was John and Sheila Sherwood - no it was not - they were athletes and taught PE. I don't think John ever worked at Myers Grove.
  12. Hi Tash, I walked past the site of DB yesterday and the memories flooded back. Was too young to go to the MOJO but looked forward all week to Sat nights at DB. I recall often standing outside chilled to the bone in winter waiting for Stringfellow to open the place up. I remember it was often the middle of the week before I could hear properly again. great days Chris
  13. Can anyone recall the names of the husband and wife teachers who taught Economics - Commerce etc. They were fifty plus and very old fashioned. I don't know how long they had been at Myers but they were there 67/68
  14. It was all part of the song - if you listen to Lazy Sunday closely it is in the background - so the crowd response would not have offended Steve and the lads. Cheers Chris
  15. Anyone out there see the Small Faces at the Top Rank in the late Sixties. I recall it was a good gig but I don't think they were on all that long - 45 mins ? They were probably doing another one on the same night. All I can remember was a stomping version of Tin Soldier. Cheers Chris
  16. Yes Janet, I was still at school at the time - went to bed early but was still often listening to the music after midnight - parents not happy and they threatened to confiscate my radio. Chris
  17. With the forthcoming release of the Film THE BOAT THAT ROCKED - about the Pirate Radio Era in the Sixties. I was thinking of the stations that I listened to on my little tranny radio back then. Radio 270 moored off the east coast provided a clear signal in Sheffield and I listened to it at every opportunity. One of the DJ's Paul Burnett is still doing it on Classic Gold I believe. Anyone else recall the Pirates. Chris
  18. The Fiesta attracted a lot of other Soul and Motown acts. I saw Stevie Wonder - Gladys Knight- Jimmy Ruffin - Junior Walker - Sam & Dave - Supremes - Edwin Starr and probably a few more. Great Nights Chris
  19. Sadly missed the Billy Stewart gig - Must play SUMMERTIME again this weekend - what a record. Only group I saw was BANDWAGON and they were good. Cheers Chris
  20. Thanks for the info - the book sounds interesting - good Christmas pressy ! I have many memories of Down Broadway - but can't remember the decor ? Please support this everyone. Cheers Chris (Keep the faith)
  21. Jools Holland paid tribute on his BBC2 show last night - he showed a clip of the Tops singing REACH OUT I'LL BE THERE.
  22. Yes Jenny - there are some great clips of the Tops on Youtube. I recall that they even had suits made at a Sheffield Tailors whenever they came over. Chris
  23. Wow - first started this thread in 2003. Still brings back memories when I walk past the old site in High Street. Great pass out scam mickey. Cheers Chris
  24. Sad to hear that Levi Stubbs of the Four Tops passed away a few days ago. What fantastic memories I have of the Tops appearing in Sheffield almost every year from the late sixties into the mid seventies at the City Hall and then the Fiesta. Levi and the lads struck up many friendships in Sheffield over the years - Did anyone out there meet them over this period ? Apart from seen them perform about six or seven times I saw them at a Radio Sheffield Saturday Morning Club at the old Radio Sheffield Shop on Union Street (Roxy Music were also there that morning ) Thanks for the memory
  25. There was also some beer in the milk crates ! Stranger than fiction ???
