  1. if you are looking for another idea, take a look at https://www.home-assistant.io/ The Pi makes a great Home automation platform.
  2. you could always offer them on freecycle or anygoodtoyou someone might have a need/use for them
  3. One of the guys that used to work with me always put mushy peas on his. I pref either salad cream or mayo but if they are not avail then red sauce
  4. I have used http://www.clove.co.uk and http://www.expansys.co.uk before. Clove has always been really quick with delivery too.
  5. Don't know if it will help but you could always post a wanted ad on our site. Explain what you what and why. I have given boxes of things for charity car boot stalls before through it.
  6. Thanks for the info, will have to pop in and say hi, was always a treat to visit and you always got a smile and warm greeting when you went in...
  7. I dont know if anyone has asked this before, I did try and search but didnt come up with anything. We haven't managed to get to Wentworth for a while, but when we do we always liked to pop into the little chocolate shop, but this time it was gone Does anybody know if she moved to another location or if she has just closed up shop?
  8. We used to own a few Sims on there until Linden Labs started changing pricing a policies without much notice at which point we sold up and moved out
  9. Just thought I would ask if anyone else was doing anything special for Recycle Week this week?
  10. Hi Happyanna, Just thought I would mention that banning IP addresses can have unexpected results, actually blocking valid users from the site. Many ISP's share IP addresses as a pool handing out the next free one when someone connects to their service. So the address you block could well be a genuine user the next time it is given out, likewise your band user may simply need to reconnect to the Internet to get a new IP address and be back without a worry.
  11. I fully agree andysm, as long as people are upfront about what they are planning to do and let the person giving make a choice based on that information who they will give to. I have personally given away stuff on AGTY that I know is going to a carboot and I have given to scrap collectors because they were honest about who they were and I had stuff that they wanted. Our tag includes the phrase 'too good to throw away', material that can be recycled fits this too, as you point out, this is still stuff which we are saving from landfill and ensuring is reused. Its all just a matter of being honest and open and letting givers decide
  12. Thats a good idea, I might add this to the list of future developments over at AGTY.
  13. That's one of the things we are trying to overcome with the site, because users have a profile this is linked to their listings, so they wont forget to add it to a listing. We have used FreeCycle in many locations over the years, so please don't take my comments regarding freecycle personally. They were not meant to be, and I don't claim that our site it perfect, its still young and in constant development. I just never really got on with the idea of using mailing lists for things like this, they just don't offer the flexibility I would be looking for. In response to some of your other points, we will be adding to the moderators as and when needed and hope that over time we will be able to reward them for their services with more than just gratitude and feel good. We also offer massive flexibility regarding location, which freecycle doesn't. I personally have had people from Ipswich and London come to collect items I was listing that they really wanted and another one due to visit soon from Derby, on freecycle they wouldn't even have known about the items and they may well have ended up in landfill or worse. Don't take this the wrong way, but I find that comment quite insulting. You know nothing about me or my background. I have been running various systems for around 20 years now, long before the internet became mainstream (oh the days of dial-up BBS systems - although my phone bill is very happy that they have gone). I have been involved with sites where I was personally moderating in excess of 100+ posts many days (we had dozens of moderators too) if I recall between us we could happily get though anywhere between 75,000 - 100,000+ posts a month and people didn't seem too bothered about the time frame. Although we have been developing with an eye on moderation load, to combat having to moderate so many listings we do have a system where users earn trust and at a point they are able to post un-moderated, however an abuse of this would drop them back to being moderated again until they re-earn the trust. Also once someone has listed something, if they didn't get any interest they can relist it without moderation if it is unedited. This is all part of the flexibility I was talking about regarding using a 'generic service' such as yahoo groups to provide a 'custom service' such as freecycle. All of our code is written for the purpose of the site and as such does what we want (well in the main LOL ). Don't get me wrong I'm not saying that I don't have a massive amount of respect for many of the people who give up their time to help something like freecycle, indeed, its the contrary, as we may be looking for some willing volunteers at some point, I am not even saying you should use our site over another, we are simply offering options. Surely that is the important thing? The more services we have trying to keep things out of landfill and in use the better? Does it really matter if its freecycle / freegle / AGTY ? as long as its not in landfill right?
  14. if you want to see how widespread this is take a look at http://www.crap-parking.co.uk/index.php
