  1. Always went to The Sidewalk on a Friday afternoon as school was half-day that day, home to change into our gladrags and false eyelashes, quick detour through Coles for a free squirt of perfume then downstairs to the Palma Lounge or the Egyptian Room to be very sophisticated drinking frothy coffee - full of sugar to hide the taste as we didn't really like coffee!!!! We haunted the place after we found the Sheffield Wednesday players went in there, as my friend and I were besotted with them. Incredibly noisy Gaggia coffee machine.
  2. Always went to The Shack after swimming with my mum.
  3. I took mine to RTT Moto, 2 Hoyland Rd, Hoyland, Barnsley S74 0LY, Tel: 01226 743287. They re-spoked my Virago wheels in stainless as I think polishing spokes is like punishment, and the chrome was well past it. Great service.
  4. My father was a vet and visited a cafe in one of the small mining villages near Barnsley in the late 1950's. It was owned and run by a Chinese family, and was a small cafe cooking the usual sausage egg and chips and the like, but at the bottom of the menu were one or two Chinese dishes, whatever they were cooking for the family that day. It was a pretty tatty place, not the sort of surroundings you'd want to take your family for a nice dinner, but Dad used to phone them up and we would drive out there with half a dozen big pans and get them filled up for a "takeaway" of wonderful homecooked Chinese food - so my Dad always said he invented the first Chinese takeway in the area.........
  5. Was he "Uncle Fred"? If so remember him from late '50s/early 60's, when he used to come along and entertain at my parties and my friends' parties, as we all went to each others birthday parties, we knew his act off by heart, but it didn't matter!! Saw him in the early 1970's at an event in Weston Park doing his Punch and Judy act.
  6. You cannot put a boat on the canal without an inland waterways boat licence and insurance. https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/enjoy-the-waterways/boating/licensing-your-boat?gclid=COTv1q60idUCFQcQ0wodiJgCNw
  7. St Luke's charity shop on Woodseats often has prom dresses in for reasonable prices.
  8. I understand the helicopter landing spot for the Children's is in Weston Park.
  9. HI can anyone recommend a reliable tarmac company in the Sheffield area who can come and resurface a large (about 90sq metres) driveway, I am so scared of getting a cowboy who will rip me off and do a shoddy job, as I know tarmac is one of the big areas for scams. I live near Crosspool. Thank you for any advice.
  10. Don't get confused, just because it's raw doesn't make it organic, pasteurisation does not make milk less "organic", though it does affect the taste. Raw milk is better tasting, but you do run the risks, mainly of salmonella and e.coli, both of which are killers. The Lincolnshire Poacher website says that some of their cattle feed is non-organic.
  11. The police took all my details over the phone, but did not attend, and to be fair, I could not give them a description or anything, but it would seem to me that they should ask to see the CCTV of the time in question, I could narrow it down to about 20 minutes. I just wondered if this had happened to anyone else recently in Morrisons, as if there is a spate of this, then maybe they will look into it more closely.
  12. I was shopping at Morrisons Hillsborough on Saturday when my handbag was stolen from the hook on the front of the trolley. I alerted staff and the security manager got the customer service desk to let me use the phone and get numbers to cancel my cards, but seemed a bit evasive about CCTV, and didn't take a formal incident report or anything. They got no cash, but it has caused me no end of hassle cancelling and reinstating cards and replacing phone and locks (phone and keys in bag), let alone the fact I have lost a lot of photos of my grandchildren. Other people seem to have heard of problems in security at this shop, anyone else had stuff swiped recently? Anyhow, be very alert, and if possible keep your bag under your coat or close to you. I spent ages going round the car park in case it had been dumped anywhere, the only thing I found was several car loads of youths smoking skunk, and when I told Customer Services about this, they just shrugged and said they were always there! Not impressed, think I may be shopping elsewhere in future.
  13. Sheffield Teaching hospitals Rheumatology Department, in collaboration with the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society, are hosting an information and fun event for anyone suffering from or wanting to know more about RA. This will be a family-friendly event, to be held on Friday 28 June at the HSBC Social Club, Hathersage Road, Dore, S17 3AA, from 5-9 pm. There will be a children's entertainer from 5-7, barbecue, raffle, lots of information stands and talks by members of our knowledgeable medical and nursing staff. Come along and meet us and ask any questions you may have, and have a good time. Admission is free, but please register your interest with Oliver@nras.org.uk so that we have a rough idea of numbers for catering!
  14. The place is starting to look as tatty as it did before the revamp, according to various people I have spoken to he can't keep staff because he treats them like dirt or gropes them, I was amused to see within a week or so of the programme airing, there was a sign in the window advertising for another chef, obviously the excelelnt lady they got in for the programme had enough of the owner. I have my doubts that he ever qualified as a doctor in the UK, though he makes much of this.......he lives in a complete dream world, where he thinks his food is good and kitchens clean themselves, and I wouldn't touch the place with a bargepole.
  15. Anyone know what happened to Barnsley Custom and Classic Show due to be on today at Barnsley RUFC, turned up and there was no-one and nothing there, and no signs saying it had been moved or cancelled, nothing on the Hull Demons MC page as well, who were the organisers.
